>Lastly, important news: we heard your calls and Konami will add Japanese title variants as a free update shortly after launch. Keep your eyes peeled for more details!

Konami confirms the Japanese versions of each game in the Castlevania Collection will be patched in in a post launch update for free.

That means everyone gets to play the superior version of Castlevania 3 now.

so

no censored Kid Dracula?

Kid Dracula has that one boss's sprite altered so it no longer has the nazi symbol on it's head.

even the JP version?

Not sure

Footage of the collection starts around 3 minutes in

Okay but I can literally just play the japanese version of Castlevania III right now for free, probably with superior emulation quality and tons of options like CPU overclock, shaders etc (not that I remember III having any slowdown issues but still)

What does this collection offer over traditional emulation that would make it worth 20 bucks?

YES! Now I won't have to do a false Paypal.

You can take it on the train if you have the switch version.

>M2 developed this collection

Wow it feels really barebones compared to what they normally do, Jewnami probably didn't give them enough money or time which also explains why Rebirth is missing.

Attached: 1528492560435.png (755x487, 349K)

>playing Switch on the train
people do that?

>dot matrix filter for the GB games
Pretty nice, didn't expect that.

I already have retroarch on my switch though

I don't give a shit about any of this until we get the GBC, GBA, and DS Castlevania's in a collection. Just run them through an emulator, good anti-aliasing options, and voila. Not that hard especially on the PS4 Xbone PC.

>But classic is better

Probably, still prefer the other ones. Especially since I plan on a self-imposed little grinding playstyle for all of them.

sometimes people like to buy the games

because reasons

It'll probably happen, since they stablished that this collection was the first. However, I doubt they'll get to DS.

I could understand wanting to buy the game if it was supporting a dev, but in this case it's a low effort cash grab and the profits are going straight to the yakuza

DS emulation is too much effort, they'd have to make concessions for the touch screen. These are low hanging fruit cash grab collections, they're not going to do anything that takes effort.

If this sells well, then what? More collections of Konami franchises, more into the 90s now?

I'd personally kill for a Suikoden collection on a portable device.

Shame, I sold off my GBA and DS Castelvania games a long time ago and I'm really hungry to replay any of them. Especially that hilarious Harmony of Dissonance one.

Another Castlevania collection with the missing Classicvanias and some Metroidvanias probably.

And maybe a new game, finally.

I can already do that with my phone/vita/3ds

I just want news on the Contra collection

As far as I'm aware there are only two more classicvanias worth talking about left, which would be Rondo and X68000 (SNES Rondo maybe?). That leaves room for 6/5 Metroidvanias. Choose wisely which you wish.

What other games you think they're gonna put?

of course they do, what else are you gonna do besides sleep or lazily look at your phone every other minute?

Vita and 3DS, sure, but phone? Come the fuck on.

>What other games you think they're gonna put?
not that user but something tells me that, since there are still 4 more games to announce, we're gonna get stuff like Hard Corps, hopefully Hardcorps Uprising as well, Shattered Soldier and Neo Contra
I'd like it if they included Rebirth but since they didn't do it with Castlevania they might just include them along with Gradius Rebirth in a separate collection

Phones are straight up the best portable emulation machines out there

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 202K)

That would be really cool, but I doubt Konami will be arsed to put a last gen game on there. Maybe the NES version of Contra? GB versions? I hope you're right tho, and they get to the PS2. It could easily be the definitive collection of Contra if you're right.

Didn't know this was a thing. Castlevania is my favorite game. I figured konami didn't give a fuck about it anymore.

Every one of those phone adapters I've used so far felt cheap as shit and made my hands cramp up harder than a vita. Did they get any better?

It comes out tomorrow user

Maybe they are taking more time with the other collection because of the ds titles.
The collection would be :
Rondo (connected to sotn)
Sotn
3 gba game
3 ds games

What other games they could have? There's already plenty of them retrocompatible on one so it's a no no, and I doubt castlekino 64 would be included.

Awesome.

Sweet. Always wanted to try Jap CV3.

Is their version of 2 still fucked up?

>but I doubt Konami will be arsed to put a last gen game on there
it just occurred to me that they will probably just sell HCU as its own separate game if they ever wanted to

Is the bong launch the 16th as well?

You mean the UK? Aye.

Adventure Rebirth and Chronicles would also be missing

oh thank god
if it was only the English version of CV3 the collection would be completely worthless

>playstation blog
Fuck off, Snoy shill.

I don't think they'll put Adventure Rebirth at all if they're going with the original.

Ta

I'm pretty sure it was hamster and not m2.

They should because Rebirth is a completely new game.

wait, I haven't played a lot of the older ones, what's the difference between the english and japanese versions

Better graphics/Sound on the famicom usually.

And the NES versions were usually made harder.

Better sound, somewhat diff graphics, and easier difficulty.

I'm playing through most of the series and I have to say, this is the third time I replay Harmony of Dissonance and... I still feel fucking confused about it. Like I'm sequence breaking the fucker without knowing. I'm pretty much done (got both amulets) and I haven't even explored half the map in both "sides". It's always weird to go through this one compared to pretty much any other modern castlevania.

It's not a Nazi symbol you nerd.

HoD is ass

>nazi symbol
Retard.
>it's
Double retard.

The game definitely lacks a proper sense of progression. You constantly feel like you haven't accomplished anything no matter how far you get in the castle.

I actually have a bit of a similar problem with Hollow Knight. The game is great but progression feels off somehow in a way similar to HoD.

Nah. Compared to CotM it's still playable. Circle of the Moon is an absolute mess. Only things better about it are the graphics/music.

It's because both games are way too open ended. In a way they're less linear, but also pretty aimless. Hollow Knight's map is massive compared to all exploration based castlevanias and at first you're kinda forced to go one way, but after a few areas it's all over the place. My second playthrough of HK was almost completely different.

I think a lot of the religious imagery tended to be altered in US versions of the game, naked statues would get covered, etc.

Attached: Screenshot_20190515-084946.png (2048x1610, 1.19M)

Circle is probably in my top five of the series. It's a fantastic blend of classic and modern playstyles.

Opinions.

Less blood, too. Or none at all.

Thus, it'd be fair to say all JP versions of these games are better for newcomers?

>Still not up on Steam store

Is this not going to go up until launch? For some reason I really hate it when games do that.

Can't speak for the Game Boy games or Kid Dracula, but otherwise yes.

It has more than one annoying entire area, it has a system that is broken and pretty untested (with skills like "restore mp by using mp!", brilliant) which also is purely random, you can go the entire game without finding almost any useful cards and making it a complete and utter drag. The controls are not really that good either. The character feels heavy and you have to constantly tap twice to run.

I guess it's a blend between playstyles because it has subweapons and whips, but then so do other games in the exploration based series. It has good music I guess? That's really all I can say about it.

Who else is hyped for Bloodstained? Game is shaping up to be in my contenders for GOTY. It's not amazing graphically but gameplay wise it's ticking all the right boxes for me.

Also Miriam is cute.

I'm really burned out on Metroidvania but I'm getting it anyway.

It's getting a Classicvania mode later so I hope that is actually good.

Attached: 1528306111103.png (720x447, 187K)

I'll play it for sure, but I'll most likely get it when it drops price.

Halfway through development I was kinda expecting it to be a bit of a flop but right now I'm a little bit convinced at least it won't be bad. I'm not hyped but I'll definitely play it.

>giving Konami money for 25 year old roms
STOP GIVING KONAMI MONEY YOU FAGGOTS

Attached: 1299440554069.jpg (380x614, 105K)

Did you play Curse of the Moon? I don't think it'll be exactly the same but I'm curious since it might give you something to do that isn't another Metroidvania in the short term.

The Classic mode sounds interesting though. It's basically going to be a linear set of levels using the existing in game assets.

Attached: ezgif-3-5d9645930ea1.jpg (2000x1680, 724K)

I have and I love it, but I've played it to death at this point. I'm always hungry for more Classicvania, but indies think only Metroidvania is profitable and worth anyone's time, which really sucks.

Attached: 1534027655495.jpg (613x587, 16K)

Eva, not too hyped for--

>Classic mode

Ooooh, on second thought...

Make me.

>Who else is hyped for Bloodstained?
Me, plus myriam is shaping up to be an extremely satisfying cute waifu to play with.
Besides that, they've done a serious effort to improve and that alone is worthy of a buy, also i'm having a medtroidvania period right now, so it fits

The last time I gave them any money was Mirror of Fate on 3DS and I completely regret it.

It's been years since they've done anything nice and if this collection will help convince Konami Castlevania is a brand worth preserving then I'll fucking buy it.

Have to agree with this. They ran every single good IP they own into the fucking ground and beyond. They deserve nothing but ridicule, not money. Running them on likely better emulators is only justice.

>Konami releases Requiem collection
>Releases a fuckton of Castlevania soundtracks on music services
>Announces the "first" Castlevania collection
>Listens to fan feedback and will include JP versions, something they didn't bother with for the Arcade collection
>S3 of the Netflix show is in production

It seems like Konami might actually be gearing up for a new game. If I can contribute in some way to that with my $20 and get legit copies of some fantastic games -- including fucking Bloodlines -- in the process, I ain't even mad.

Who do they have still in the company that can help develop a semi decent castlevania game anyways? I trust Capcom to do something like that more than Konami themselves, no matter how much fucking money they get.

I get it because I too love Castlevania but considering they greenlit Metal Gear Survive and are primarily a pachinko machine company at this point I just can't trick myself into buying this one. I'd rather let Castlevania die than support Konami who will inevitably not make another good CV game anyway.

I get that. For what it's worth, generally Indies only really carry over the progression aspect of proper Metroidvania games and add their own twist for the gameplay, where Bloodstained is successfully emulating the "feel" of the Castlevania games in terms of tone and controls.

The series has a brand new producer behind it, but they're a mystery right now. They also oversaw the Netflix series. Castlevania hasn't had a proper producer ever since IGA was demoted years ago.

We'll see. If they release a NEW game that's actually good, I may give them the shekels.

You do you user. $20 isn't really any skin off my nose and I'll be happy with the games, regardless of the outcome. If, in the end, a new game gets made then I'll feel good having been part of that.

But Konami is fucked and hasn't even begun a redemption arc so I understand not wanting to throw money at them yet. Castlevania and Metroid are weak spots for me.

Attached: tumblr_nr6yy5Vzeu1uvuwofo1_1280.jpg (671x347, 102K)

Word is they're moving away from pachinko. Some new Japanese gambling law.

Konami has so many good IPs with good games. I wish they continue making these collections... maybe non-fucked Silent Hill one?

What about a brand new 2D Castlevania with HD artwork for sprites?

So what about the arcade collection? Are they gonna add the jap versions for that one?

I'd rather have very very detailed pixel work to be honest. I haven't seen an HD sprites game match up to the style.

Well hopefully the games will all be emulated correctly too in this collection.

They're also making way more money with mobile phone games, just as everyone else.

I personally don't even need "very very detailed." Give me SotN level detail and I'll be happy. I just want a new game in a new castle designed for widescreen displays with smooth as fuck controls and a fuckton of secrets and interesting weapons.

SOTN is very very detailed given sprite size and resolution at its time.

M2 handled the port they know their shit.

Except Sega.

if you buy the switch version you appear to be slightly less of a virgin than if you used an emulator

Is Dx2 flopping?

Attached: 1530941851911.png (512x416, 54K)

>fan_japanese_retranslation_hack.png

FUCK CASTLES AND FUCK VANIAS

If that's your definition then I totally agree. I'm just saying I don't need Metal Slug level spritework. I'd be happy with something along the lines of Sonic Mania, taking the existing overall sprite appearance and just smoothing things out, adding more animation frames, etc.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY
FUCK METROID

Edits of this scene are like my favorite thing. Almost as good as some Creaking Skull memes.

Attached: 1557164309254.png (512x416, 56K)

I really hope Miriam's game isn't shit.

I demand a source on this.

It's in a presser by Konami.

All I know is their last financial report mentioned "falling digital sales".

Thanks, anons. I guess Konami gets my money this time.

>the bonus ebook includes an interview with the animated series producer

I hope they have scrapped every inch of the actual games and their devs if that's the case.

Well it's not like they can use the devs for interviews after what Konami has done to them.

Care to explain? Don't know much about Konami's history.

Mobile games and pachinko sold better, but Konami couldn't just fire the game devs. So instead they made their lives miserable, treated them like dirt, and got anyone who quit blacklisted from the industry.

Will they add Rondo and Rebirth in a free patch too? No? Fuck off then.

Konami has a history of demoting devs because their games weren't selling as well as Konami's most popular games even thought they had much less budget to work with. Konami would have them work in their arcades or other shit positions until they quit, and then Konami would try their hardest to blacklist them from the industry. Some of them would have to change their names just to be able to get another job as a developer.

ACTUAL GOOD NEWS! Finally.

That's fucking twisted. Do you have any sources?

>X68K Castlevania
>Rondo of Blood
>SNES Dracula X
>Legends (non-canon, but still worth a look)
>Kid Dracula GB
>Symphony of the Night (can't have Rondo without it)
>Castlevania 64 (combines the original and Legacy of Darkness into one enhanced version)
>Adventure ReBirth

The lead dev for Castlevania 1-3. He got demoted to arcade staff after 2 and 3 failed to sell as well the TMNT games which were Konami's best sellers at the time.

Shmuplations.com translated/compiled a series of tweets from the CV1-3 director recently where he goes into detail.

And by enhanced version, I mean that it's based on LoD, but has the C64 elements that were cut out to save memory like full voice acting.

>there are only two more classicvanias worth talking about left, which would be Rondo and X68000 (SNES Rondo maybe?)
Adventure Rebirth, you fucking retard.

God damn user, who hurt you? Jesus christ.

Thanks for the link.

that's fucking devilish. And they say Nintendo was ruthless

It won't be, unless you're playing it on the Switch.

Your retardation, JESUS FUCK.

Now you know why even diehard CV fans are hesitant to get this.

Damn nice reply

Thanks, I know.

We still don't know what games will be in the collection do we?

We've known for weeks. I-IV, I-II GB, Bloodlines, Kid Dracula NES

We've known the full list for weeks now.

thank god, I really just wanted 3 to be good, hope they get to port japanese 2 since even they aren't getting that one in the base
hope it is good.

We're getting Jap versions of all of them.

good to know

>m2 is doing the emulation
They are super autistic and emulate to PERFECTION. this might be good.

As an update? I would have expected them to be included on Day 1.

At least it's free.

Let's not be grumpy.

You think they'll fix 1GB slowdown issues?

wait, these are the genesis 3ds guys arn't they?
holy fuck
to be fair the series has done well, even tho I have some misgivings about it being too serious about itself it still is decent
>You think they'll fix 1GB slowdown issues?
probably not for emulations sake, still surprised they put in a filter to simulate the color releases though.

What the fuck is with them? How do they know to deliver such quality when these big companies often do not give two shits?

>still surprised they put in a filter to simulate the color releases though.
Wow really? I thought they only put in a filter to emulate the GB screen.

>no Platinum trophy
LOOOOOOOOOL

Attached: mega.jpg (230x246, 36K)

My respect for IGA has grown a lot honestly. He seemed to genuinely care about making a product that would be well received. Even if that meant things like changing devs, which from the outside looks really bad. Honestly it has been one of the better run KS I've seen, they were pretty open about what was happening. Hope it sticks the landing.

I'd say that even if RotN flops we'll probably get another classicvania from the series. Mimicking the old games is hard really, it doesn't take much for the formula to suddenly feel off. Which when you are a new series wanting to distinguish yourself is hard. Luckily Bloodstained's whole selling point is being a direct rip off.

Find out here:

youtube.com/watch?v=OWL6uOH-jso

Full thing's coming on the 19th

>caring about cheevo shit
Now THAT'S a lol.

English C3 > Jap C3.

One of the only sources of respect I've got for Nintendo is that they've been dodging the achievements bullshit for three gens already.

actually might of miss saw some shit sorry for getting your hopes up user, was skipping thorough the vid though there is some color filter that is not green or black and white at 7:40 in thisalso IGA is weird that he cares about vania so much, he was some guy who helped on SotN but then he cared alot. I mean alot of my favorite castlevania games that were not calssicvanias were made by him (the ps2 games and the ds ones) but I always found it surprising to me he became castlevanias surrogate dad out of nowhere just by pure passion

What are the quality of all these games like?
I've wanted to get into cv but was waiting for a collection (that actually happened wow).
And is the best order numerically or should I skip around some?

Attached: 42db5a7f5bf53233d533aa2f3ace0fc1.png (145x145, 46K)

with the japanese versions being added in you got 1 3 4 bloodlines and belmonts revenge which are great
2 is archaic but intresting as a piece of history, plan on finishing it for the first time with this
the adventure is a mistake
Kid Drac has a new translation from the looks of it and appears to be more of a self parody of the series, will play this for the first time as well but just expect something very different then usual classicvania

Attached: simon.jpg (613x1024, 70K)

>What are the quality of all these games like?
This series is highly beloved, so you tell me.

>I've wanted to get into cv but was waiting for a collection (that actually happened wow).
Why didn't you download the emulated collection some user put together and spammed non stop after Simon and Richter's Smash announcement?

>And is the best order numerically or should I skip around some?
Former.

>with the japanese versions being added in you got 1 3 4 bloodlines and belmonts revenge which are great
So is the japanese versions the way to go with this collection then? Or should I only use it for certain games?

>Why didn't you download the emulated collection some user put together and spammed non stop after Simon and Richter's Smash announcement?
Honestly, I try to avoid emulation since I like showing support with my wallet. Plus I'm too much of a goodie-two-shoes so I can never get far in games I do end up emulating out of guilt.

Attached: 1557087844201.png (900x705, 209K)

Do not skip any, play CV3 in both english and japanese (different difficulty/soundtrack) and maybe leave Simon Quest until you finish the others, it's very rough around the edges, so nobody blames you if you use a guide or something for that one.

can´t wait to finally play castlevania 4 again
the superior castlevania regardless of what those metrovania babies say
metrovanias are to the ps1 and ps2 what open world games are today

only really makes a difference for 3, everything else is mostly the same, so wait on playing 3 but the rest are fair game
2's japanese release has a save system but that game relies so much on text that it would be hard to play the japanese version.

Rondo and Bloodlines are better than IV, way to be a basic bitch and a casual on top of that.

I hear cv3 has a whack difficulty but not why, is there a difference between the english/japan versions or is it just due to how the nes/famicom handled stuff (lag or something idk)

Why buy any game, if you can just pirate them?

I like the 16bit vanias equally but you are kidding yourself if rondo isn't as easy aside from alternate stage five as 4, the only hard one of the trio is bloodlines
damage scaled depending on level in the Japanese version depending on how far you were in the game, with the US release that's gone and all the damage enemies do is at max.

Here is a good list of differences:
tcrf.net/Castlevania_III:_Dracula's_Curse/Regional_Differences

US changes
>Player attacks are redone to be slower and/or weaker (i.e. Grant stabs with a knife instead of having infinite throwing knives)
>All enemies do fixed damage based on game progress (4HP after Stage 6, plus 1 more if Sypha or Grant)
>Bats appear more frequently during jumping sequences to fuck you up
>The last checkpoint before Dracula is moved further back, making you do half the stage again if you lose to him

...why
Did they think the game was too easy or something?

to stop rentals since it was illegal in japan
places like blockbuster caused japan to seethe a lot back in the day.

>make games harder to beat in the age of rental
>????
>people are renting our games more chief

I mean konami was never smart so they probably thought
>games so hard you cant beat it on rental
>have them buy it so they can attempt to beat it over a longer period of time
its retarded but that's the theory.

Who /midnightlaunch/ hype?

when the fuck will they show this on comming soon on the us eshoop
I bought a card to preorder this shit and now I am worried they will delay it in the US at the last minute

The logic was rental stores needed more copies because they'd keep being rented out by people who still haven't beaten it.

Well that sounds promising, hopefully they put some effort into this so it doesn't suck like the arcade collection does

It isn't on the UK store either.

Because I’m not a nigger that tries to get everything for free all the time

That's actually pretty good lol

I mean, the games are like 20 years old, so little hype here

Its true. Ask the creator of Ecco the Dolphin, and hell flat out admit that was Sega's goal with the game.

>so it doesn't suck like the arcade collection does
What's wrong with it?

They didn't show the arcade collection there either.

The sound is off and you can't change the region version of each game.
