bad luck recently where matches went like
a game with 3 chinese ron pon kan spammers lucksacking and winning with 20k hands
a game where i played into a guys 12k hand super early and the 3 chinese just sucked each other off for the rest of the game giving me no chance to get out of 4 (no luck with closed hands either) (but this game i think i couldve betad, the rest of these though were bullshit)
a game where i played into a guys hand early (he had 3 whites and 3 dragons concealed in hand and ronned me for a pair with just 3 tiles shown, there was like no way to tell) but i played well and by the end got all our scores even (i was like 1200 off of third and rest were like 2k 3k diff) and i had to take a risk to get out of 4th, i set up my hand perfectly and guy across riichis as i reach tenpai on my all pin/honor hand, im like well my only wait is 8 pin but gotta go for the showdown so i riichi same turn on my move. across guy tsumos immediately and i get 4th.

Regardless, how the fuck does the copper system work in silver? The people I saw winning didn't even seem to get more copper than you put in to play. It lists the values in the description but what any of those values mean is arcane.

Reminder to use copper for buying items. Make sure you get low enough to claim the revival copper and take advantage of that!

That one. The last triplet in your sanankou must also be completed with a tsumo, so if you ron and the winning tile completes the third triplet then you won't get the yaku.

I don't really get how it works either, but you're right about bleeding copper. You pretty much only ever come out with more than you spend if you're in first place, 2nd maybe breaks even and 3rd and 4th lose a lot. The silver chests are shit too, mostly spheres and the odd green gift worth 1 dust.
I've went back to bronze rooms, bronze east costs nothing and 90% of players there are idiot cats who will feed you whatever tiles you need to get ahead and then 1000 pt open tanyao to the end of the game. I'm farming rank from it and saving my coppers for the gold room.

But it has everything I'd want in a game

I don't think so. The items you can get for copper are worthless yet expensive, it's far more efficient to spend it on matches to get crates. And I doubt anyone is positive on copper from matches, unless they're way WAY under the rank they should be at. You'd need to be first place in most of your games.

It's rather that low rank players suck. They'll deal you the right tiles for an open Daisangen and call kan when you're on in riichi with a monster hand.

So you get to a higher rank where you win less and run into the same problem. The average copper gain of all players in a given game is negative, and the game has ranking systems. You can only delay this problem slightly, not avoid it.

You can literally play it on your phone browser and the performance is the same.

Technically you're right. The average gain is negative but you have to consider the revival and quest copper.
But you have a point, at some point you hit a rank where you can't win enough to gain any substantial amount. Well if you're not there yet, then go for it.
It just seems like a big waist to hoard your copper and have it slowly bleed away without it getting any use. If you spend it on items the revival copper helps plenty to stop the bleeding. Unless you suck dick and go negative twice in a row of course.

Bronze East? South is more difficult for whatever reason, but East is filled Cats that all play the same way. I just had a game where I got a lucky 8k in the first round, and then just watched as they open tanyaoed each other all the way to the end. The game ended when the last place cat tsumoed an open tanyao for 1100 points, leaving him dead last still.
I'm not good at the game, but anyone who knows even the basics can style on these guys. They have no reasoning other than rushing for the fastest hands possible, and they don't even do it efficiently.

Optimize discards and don't be afraid to go for shit hands if the flow isn't in your favor. I used to think "flow" and "magical sands" are just memes but there are days when I win constantly and days (sometimes in a row) when I get ronned and tsumo'd on an hourly basis.

If you're wanting to get to tenpai faster, that's tile efficiency.
For winning though, you probably just need to learn to defend sometimes in the early ranks. As soon as I started doing the most basic defense, folding when I had nothing and someone else looked like they were about to win, I shot through bronze. You only need one semi decent hand and then you can coast through the rest of the match and end first or second.

It helped me wrap my head around the game when I was starting out. Being efficient isn't always the best thing (sometimes it's good to be "inefficient" on purpose to get a chance at a better hand, rather than trying to complete the hand you've got ASAP), but when starting out it's better to focus on your fundamentals than on chasing fancy hands. Don't bother including the honors for training, since the trainer will almost always recommend you to dump them immediately anyway.

I tried it in Yakuza once and thought it was fun.
Then I tried it online when Mahjong Soul came out and thought it was really fun.

You have to think 1s and 9s as their own category of tiles.
To have yaku in your situation, for example, would require all of your sets to contain them or not contain them at all. Since you opened your hand (chii)(pon) with both terminals (1s and 9s) and simples (2-8), you are no longer eligible to win, unless you change your wait to dragon triplets, in your case.

Only if you think you can call win in a matter of turns. Otherwise it is better to enhance your tile versatility.

Innocence lets you rewind one action if everyone else agrees.
Hope moves tiles around the dead wall to favour your kan draws.
Courage prevents any safe / furiten discards but in return tells you which tile is safe.
Honesty increases your yaku by one but also tells others what yaku types you have.

If your goal is to win the round as quickly as possible for whatever reason, then yes. If you're significantly behind and need big points to come back, then no.
I've started passing on the first dragon pon if I have nothing and trying to build up my hand to a riichi or something first. The last dragon usually shows up anyway, and if I Ron it after the riichi that's extra points. If it doesn't show up the riichi with a dragon pair is worth the same anyway, with a possibility of much more.
Plus, people tend to think the dragon is safe if there's one in the discards. They deal into it a lot.

Don't just play 100% defensively all the time. If you have a good hand, go for it. You can always go back to playing defensively if you fuck up or someone else gets aggressive.

Especially if you play Bronze East, one good hand can be all you need to get in first.

I don't know what the fuck the deal was but last night, I just could not win a game to save my fucking life in the silver rooms. It felt like the game was giving me the absolute shittiest hands to start with, with these awful mixes of terminals, honors, and simples that weren't even close to each other, and with the tiles I was drawing, I really had no choice but to basically wipe almost my entire hand just to get something with a valid yaku since my draws were also garbage. Meanwhile, my opponents are calling chis and pons left and right because they just seem to have good starting hands or are otherwise drawing most of what they need on their own. By the time I get even close to fixing my garbage starting hand, one of them either tsumos or rons (which was often on me) and I'm stuck paying out to hands scoring at least 5000 because go figure, they also have a bunch of dora tiles on them or just good hands overall. It felt like the game was deliberately working against me because looking at my discards and comparing to my draws, there really wasn't anything I could have done differently and I wasn't even getting good tiles to play defensively, not like that would have helps me much since even if I never got ron'd, I still would have been paying out to tsumos and ending up in last because I could never win a round. I got close several times to having some amazing hand but as usual, somebody would beat me to finishing. I don't think I've ever had a losing streak that bad.
