The maps are some of the most well designed they've ever made. The balance is some of the best they've ever done. The classes actually have distinct roles and complement each other now. The vehicles aren't indestructible death machines for people to farm free kills with either.

Maybe the auto aim was worse on some platforms, I actually mostly used a pad on PC and I didn't even have trouble sniping which is usually the worst case for analog aiming.

No, they can't. Map design and base health values make dealing with vehicles an absurd battle of attrition that requires stupid amounts of coordination just because tank players and bombers have so much cover to work with. It's also almost always entirely brainless work.

D44M was unironically boring. There is only so many times you can do the same few glory kills or circle strafe. They need to up the speed or add some kind of execution difficulty. I'd rather have a complete Quake with fast loading times and servers than Doom.
