Well BW tried to do away with it while making archetype clones, kantofags hated not using their bat Pokémon even if there was a new bat Pokémon, or using a tadpole Pokémon that gets bigger and gains a new type as it evolves, they didn't want a new mole nor a new bull, they wanted the same Pokémon over and over.

BW was great because it was the anti jotho, a region of new Pokémon solely reliant on new Pokémon instead of having old as common while often forcing you to seek a lot to find the supposed native Pokémon of johto.

I really wish we could get a new BW, discovering and using all new Pokémon was the most fun I had in a while even if the game was slow as fuck until you finish the dreamyard.

Not relying on old Pokémon allowed me to rotate stuff like Scolipede, Scrafty and Maractus for a while, BW felt like a toy box of unfamiliar treasures.

I tried to make a similar experience in USUM given then in SM I did rely on Magnezone, Gyarados and Hypno wich made the game a cakewalk so I put on a rule about only using new Pokémon and I had an absolute blast discovering Tsareena, Araquanid, Mudsdale, Mimikyu and Kommo-o.

I feel that relying on nostalgia and old favorites can hamper your experience of a new region, I really enjoyed USUM even if it was a mediocre game because I played it on a way that allowed me to discover stuff I never expected to be good.
