Has the Saturn's 3D aged the finest?

I want to play Dragon Force one of these days. Hopefully SSF runs nicely this time.

I played it recently on Mednafen and it ran flawlessly, great fucking game too. The sequel is broken on Mednafen but it's also trash so no big loss.

Really, what's so different about the sequel?

Really hope after Sega is done with all the Genesis re-releases, they start doing some Saturn stuff.

SEGA will never be done with Genesis releases. It's free money.
Saturn would take effort to emulate, and normies don't care about it.

Highly recommend checking out a japanese only fighting game called Suiko Enbu Fuunsaiki. We got the first version of it in the west as Dark Legend, but the later version is much better.

M2 could do it.

How is Saturn emulation? I want to play all Panzer Dragoon games

Well I mean it's still a decent game but I found it really dissapointing after the first one.
For starters it's nice that the story is more fleshed out but you're very railroaded, maybe it was a problem specific to the campaign I picked but there's this tendency for your path to be constantly blocked until a story event lets you progress, in the first game there's an intended story sequence but it's very loose, you mostly just conquer the world however you please, but in the second one you're very railroaded most of the time.

There's also some other stuff like how you get a lot of commanders really fast and since you don't need to leave people behind to hold castles anymore it becomes really easy to just zerg rush the whole map, the railroading and the shape of the map itself also makes it so you have relatively few possibles ways you can be attacked from so you rarely have to worry about spreading yourself thin. Also you now get to have two different types of units per commander which is cool but the added complexity of formations and tactics you can now pull off was not accompanied by an improvement in pathing AI so battles can become a mess pretty quick. All the added unit types, spells and other feature also feel excessive and often poorly balanced.

tl;dr: just an inferior game to the original in almost every way

meh, lots of games don't work right, have crashes, have rendering issues. Real hardware is the only way to get good compatibility and results. You'll literally be using 3 different emulators for games.

Mednafen works fine for most games I've tried, but it can get CPU intensive so your mileage may vary depending on your specs. SSF is a good alternative in these cases. Never use Yabause.

I have a decent CPU how well does Mednafen emulate Panzer Dragoon 2 and Zwei?

All the Panzer Dragoon games work fine. You may get a little bit of slowdown on rare occasions and some minor graphical glitches but nothing significant.

zwei has a lot of rendering errors on infinite planes and 3D. Expect weird results.

lame whats the best way to play 2 and zwei then? I have orta for the xbox so I can play the original on that. I know there's a 2019 remake for 1 and 2 but I don't want to wait

>2 and zwei
2 = zwei, it's german

Oh I'm dumb I meant 2 and saga

keep in mind saga is literally one of the most advanced games on the system pushing everything to the limit in the most optimized way imaginable. Any sort of inaccuracies is gonna cause hiccups and errors. Maybe it's possibly third to Quake and Burning Rangers.

A real Saturn on a CRT, preferably RGB but S-video is pretty good too. Way better than composite. Zwei supports the 3D controller which I prefer.

Otherwise, mednafen is playable. It won't ruin your experience or anything, but it won't be perfect. You should get a Saturn though, it's awesome.

There's probably better options but I played through saga with SSF_012_beta_R3 . The 'last' version gave me invisible walls that made it impossible to progress.

So I'm assuming then the best way to play any saturn exclusive is by just getting a saturn? How cheap are they and how do you pirate games on them?

Depends where you are. In Australia it'd be about $150AU($100US) for a Saturn, and maybe $40 for a Pseudo saturn flashed action replay cartridge. That lets you play burned CDs.

What are some good sega Saturn games to play

Ah I'm in canada

Radiant Silvergun
Blast Wind
Panzer Dragoon
DAYTONAAAAA

Yes, they're often pricey but not very expensive and can easily play pirated games with things like Pseudo Saturn Kai. But if you think the cost is too high then you can absolutely play most Saturn games on an emulator without much harm to the experience.

A real Saturn is excellent, especially with psuedo Saturn Kai. Just got all my back ups ready too. There's a lot of games worth playing here.

Nice. I'm waiting for the Satiator to do backup stuff, just playing original CDs for now. I hope it comes soon, because my laser is dying... it took me 20 minutes and some metho just to play Sega Rally last night.

Free money? What free money if people are starting to be tired of the same Genesis releases?

>if people are starting to be tired of the same Genesis releases
Hasn't happened yet

The sales started to decrease in japan. Even in the west that Genesis Classics seems that never happened.

Sega is doing some work with their old Saturn era IPs, new games, remakes, etc. It'll be interesting to see how it works out but no doubt there's a lot of market data they're looking to poll from them. I imagine we'll see the Panzer Dragoon and Zwei remakes soon.

I love my saturn. Was really glad I found one for only 50 bucks, was even happier once I softmodded it. I just wish a lot of the more obscure japanese games had good rips that work when burned.

Panzer dragoon is already getting a remake

Avoid ones that are not bin/cue/bin or bin/cue/wav. I have a 1f link with a ton of redump rips.

Yes, I know. It will be shown "soon" according to the devs. I imagine Sega will have a showing at E3. If they really want to get me off they'll start the trailer for it with this music:

A lot of the super obscure games are in some weird format I can't remember. I'm talking the idol games and what not, There was one series I found that was actually fun, Can't remember the name right now, no idea who the girls even are, but you solve a puzzle with moving pictures, really fun.

Everything I got was in a usable format. I've seen some crappy rips from DarkWater before.
