Your confusion comes from a wrong interpretation of 3D/2D. Yes, DBFZ uses 3D models and graphics, BUT the game is played on a 2D plane, thus the game is a 2D fighter. Street Fighter and the new SamShow are also 2D games, even though they use 3D models. A game like Tekken or Soul Caliber is in 3D because the movement is 3D.

Thank you for explaining that to me. I don't play many fighting games so I wasn't as in tune with the specifics of what separates 2D from 3D. It's a lot less simple than I thought.
