Pic related. Got it at a yard sale for $3, being a youngfag at the time and a poorfag, it was a huge departure from Super Mario Bros and the other NES games I was playing at the time. Trying it again now, how the fuck did I think I could play something like that?
First RPG?
That's a tough one to start with. I guess the SegaCD one was a big intro for a lot of people too though.
Technically my first RPG was Dragon Warrior, but I didn't know what what I was doing in it. Same with Phantasy Star and Secret of Mana which I would try later. The game that really opened them up for me was Chrono Trigger.
If we're counting Zelda though, then Zelda 1&2 would be my start, although I got them at the same time as Dragon Warrior because it was all in the same garage sale pile.
>First RPG
yes, I'm an oldfag
If we are counting Zelda 1 and 2, then yeah those would have been my first RPGs, but I never really thought of them as RPGs.
>First RPG
well
Probably Pokemon Blue. That's the first time I can remember the concept of HP and EXP and having enough fun watching numbers go up that I spent all my time grinding in the viridian forest until Squirtle was level 25 or something stupid.
I had weird videogame autism when I was a kid. I got stuck somewhere really early in Links' Awakening and so I thought I needed the bow to progress. I grinded out all of those rupees in pic related, getting maybe 3 or 4 at a time.
You're not alone, I was really stupid with grinding in Majora's Mask
>pokemon
babby's first fps
You should play Grandia instead.
Same company, much much better game
Great game, already played it.
I liked Lunar 2 better than Grandia. The latter is definitely a better game than Lunar 1, though.
Ah I'm sorry I didn't read your whole post. I thought you said you'd just bought Lunar for $3 and it was about to be your first JRPG.
All good, desu I missed a ton of great RPGs so it isn't unwarranted to suggest games for me to check out. Currently digging into PS1 RPGs since Vita hacking picked up so heavily again.
That is one shit filter
How the fuck is this hard? I played and finished this shit when I was in grade school
it's a good game
play SaGa Frontier
I'll check it out, screenshots look interesting
Such a simple way of making every fight more engaging while still being turn based.
Breath of Fire 4 and SaGa Frontier 2 are my favourite JRPGs on the Playstation.
I know that feel. The first time I saw Mario RPG, and later FF7, I couldn't wrap my head around what kind of game it was. I skipped them for years until I played Legend of Legaia and got into console RPGs.
Hell yeah. Not to mention moving story and great characters. Wish Sony would do a remake.
It's a bit harder to pin down the ARPG genre, especially today when a lot of action and adventure games have RPG elements anyway, but at the very least, I think Zelda 2 was definitely a textbook ARPG.
