Most weapons are imbalanced, you only need 2, arguably 3 weapons in this game: super shotgun, Gauss and BFG. Every other weapon is fluff not because I choose to stick to using the same 2 weapons, but because there's absolutely no reason not to: ammo is plentiful, siege gauss can one / two / three shot everything and everything else can be wiped out by a super shotty. Once u get two shot upgrade for double barrel it becomes the best weapon in the game by far
I barely even used the SSG unless I was killing pinkies. Otherwise I'd just use the HMG's scope to one-shot the smaller enemies and gauss the rest.
The weapon is absolutely brutal after the upgrade, cause it can outdps gauss in some instances and super versatile while, again, not requiring that much ammo. Kinda dumb

Doom has techbase, hellbase and hell. The same ones as Doom4 except Doom4 has gore fused with the architecture instead of having finely crafted green marble installed to spice up the place. I don't know about you but when it comes to interior decoration by demons I'd guess gore first and fancy marble... not first.

Overall I liked it though, and am looking forward to DOOM Eternal.
Doom released 26 years ago this December, and while it may have only had 3 settings they were still more varied compared to the gunmetal grey walls and orange sand everywhere in Doom 4. A couple of levels are literally "previous level, but some parts are on fire".

the fucking finishers needed to be a treat, not the way you kill every single mob forever, it's a shooter that discourages you from continuing to shoot the thing you can just press F to turn into an ammo and health pinata. the core gameplay loop defeats itself, it should've been a shooter not a press F to kill this enemy game.
Only way to progress was through locked in arena-like segments. Gets repetitive and predictable.

by far my biggest gripes with the games are:
the gameplay is essentially a painkiller ripoff, and painkiller sucked
grenades and melee insta-kills to satiate the cod crowd, to the point that the game forces you into a QTE virtually any time you want to kill an enemy which is insane
the the story and characters try way WAY to fucking hard to be ironic edgy and wink at the player constantly, especially near the beginning where doomguy destroys the monologue terminal because fuck story in games, amirite (btw the game's full of plot and retarded storylines but EPIC RIP AND TEAR amirite? xD)
the enemy designs somehow manage to be unbelievably boring and generic despite being able to rip the doom designs 1:1 to the point the doom guy (oh I'm sorry, doom *slayer* because he needs an epic name) manages to look like a rip off of a doom guy rip off.
So basically like the original Doom where you play most of the game with just the shotgun?

Yeah they were more varied because all textures were laid out without any rhyme or reason, not to mention how much easier it is to just make linedefs and give them textures compared to crafting interlocking shader-optimized LODded elements.
And the orange martian sand is absolutely no argument at all because those outside areas exist in Doom1 too, and they also consists of a single brown soil color. But it is still better than bringing up Doom1's age because age is no excuse at all. Technical limitations are no excuse at all. If a game looks any worse than something made today in any way, it must be acknowledged regardless of technological progress and no forgiveness can be given for anything even if something was not physically possible to achieve previously.

That's not entirely right and I would argue that part of it isn't a limitation at all. The inability to have rooms above rooms makes planning and creating maps incredibly simple in comparison because you're missing an entire dimension. On top of that, Doom4 was compromised to a large extent by the limitations of consoles. Compare that to Doom1 that runs on an engine that literally has no draw distance cap because it's 1d raytraced.

Nothing. The game is good but not as good as the original DOOM games from the 90's. At least we didn't get that COD version of DOOM 4. Also, looking forward to DOOM Eternal this year.

I haven't played much in the way of current-gen consoles, but varied locations are still a thing right? They must be, since Eternal is looking to improve upon that by having at least 3 kinds of setting.
I enjoyed the hell out of it. Can't think of any gripes. Maybe needed more secret rooms? Didn't play the multiplayer, so I cant comment on that.
How come this game looks better at 1440p on Low than at 1080p on Max? Am I blind or does this have a great low? Usually I don't go past 1080 unless I can still max at 60fps.
More roaming demons would be nice, but otherwise not much. It's funny going back to the original and seeing that it's basically a methodical room clearing simulator for most of the experience.

It's a little short, and doesn't currently have mod tools. I had fun with it, but now there is nothing left for me to do after clearing everything 100%.

Boring weapons is the primary problem. Who wants to play an FPS where you get Pistol - Shotgun - Assault Rifle - Sniper Rile over and over and over? They should have had some Unreal style of weapons. Gun that shoots sawblades, a staff that controls spiders. Stuff like that.
