The second coming of VR truly is amazing

It's already that. But that's going to change very soon.

With PS5 around the corner and supporting VR even further and the HMDs for PC becoming more affordable and more comfortable and less troublesome to set up, we're literal months away from seeing VR take off into an early renaissance. There's now a lot of games for VR, and while most of them are shovelware, hidden gems are beginning to be uncovered. It won't be long at all until there's a respectable library of games to choose from, and with the other improvements of VR, it'll finally make VR appealing to the skeptical enthusiasts and even normalfags. My guess is around the holiday this year we'll see it just start to manifest at this level of appeal.

VR is a meme gimmick fad that is already: over. It just: is.

Every goddamned year people say this. Then when it inevitably doesn't happen, VR fanboys will move the goalposts and make excuses that it's a new technology and it can't be expected to sell well yet. Wake me up when a VR headset sells as much or has as many worthwhile games as the Wii U. At this rate maybe it'll happen by the end of the next decade.

VR is the new video games.
It's in its arcade stage right now, where you have to go somewhere to play it because you can't afford it nor is a home version available.

If Carmack couldn't make VR not-shit, then nobody could.

So years of support and there now being a lot of good games for it mean nothing to you? VR never got the support that it's gotten in the last 5 years before then, and it's been 5 years. It hasn't stagnated in those 5 years, it's grown a lot. Sony is making some major investments in VR for PS5.

A lot of old console games were much the same. Despite VR not technically being 'new', devs are working out the best systems for headsets and motion controls while they're being gradually upgraded.

As such, VR titles have to focus in two of three things.

Most consoles go years before getting a game, so I don't see why this is any different. I spent more time playing VR than I did with my PS4 or Switch over the past year.

I have more confidence in Japan than I do in Carmack for making VR worthwhile, honestly. I think he's gotten a bit rusty.
