Explaine why it is. The top part of the map has good space and cover for nice BR/carbine duels and the underground part is a fun grenade, radar mindgame and close combat section. Overall pretty good.
I think it just gets some hate because Halo3 had so many amazing maps that the decent ones look like crap by comparison

Halo 3's map design in general is a step down from the previous games, with too many maps trying to do multi-layered maps with little interaction between them(Construct, Snowbound, Isolation). Other maps were too focused on the Shield Door gimmick, and the rest were just generally designed poorly for a multitude of other reasons.

- Consistently good to great campaign missions
- Has a cast of actual characters with decent writing, probably the best story in the series after 2
- Best soundtrack in the series
- Slightly refined core gameplay over Halo 3
- Firefight is great

Literally every Halo is like that when it comes to the shitty auto weapon and the precision weapon, aside from like 5 I think.
Juan Lee
Nah. if you land every shot of the AR it should absolutely kill faster then even all headshots on a precision weapon, because actually landing all AR shots past point blank is difficult as fuck: Even if you can track the other player super well, unless you are taking time between short bursts, and even then, missing no shots is super rare and difficult.
That being said, as sort of notes, the autos are unessscarily shit and precision weapons are far better then they should be in almost every halo game, at least the Halo Reach AR, while slightly weaker then the CE and 3 AR, could hit shit at a distance.
As notes, In Halo 5 autos appropriately have some of the fatest killtimes in the game if every shot lands, and on launch the AR was actually decent, with the SMG and storm rifle actually outright working as a sort of mid-level/pesudo power weapon, but the TU made them not worth using over the magnum sadly. Still better then the other halo games though
James Murphy
EVERYONE PRESS X YOU FAGS
Christian Fisher
The AR doesn't deal headshot damage, and it's not difficult to land a single headshot.
Hunter Lee
>but the TU made them not worth using over the magnum sadly.
Nah, they just balanced the weapons instead of having them be automatic disintegration rays.
Adam Hughes
Not at all.
Even before the TU, the magnum, BR, Carbine, Light RIfle, still easily beat out the AR at mid range, and could beat it out at close range if the player was good and consistently landed shots and could land the last headshot; it's just that not like past games where anybody who wasn't a complete retard would automatically win with the BR etc over the AR user at all but litterally point blank.
I'm not gonna claim that the AR was 100% fine: Spraying was better then it should have been, for instance; and the storm rifle was outright a bit OP, but almost every past halo game has had far worse imbalance in favor of precision weapons, even putting aside the obvious examples of the CE magnum and the 2 BR.
The SMG is Halo 2/3 levels uiseless since the TU, and the AR, while usable and not shit like it was in 3 or reach, still isjn't really ever the best choice: Even up close the magnum or BR or carbine etc are still better then it again aslong as you aren't mentally challenged.
Jaxson Ramirez
The AR was pretty ridiculous when you scoped in with it. That level of accuracy, aim assist, and damage output was unnecessary. One of them had to go.
Jonathan Morales
"Stupid fucking Snowbound"
Michael Anderson
As I said, I agree full auto fire for it was too good but it's less ergegious then say how good precision weapons have classically been despite being piss easy to use.
But here is how I would have balanced the Halo 5 AR:
>Moderate decrease to aim assist, MASSIVE decrease to bullet magnetism. The bullet magnetism should be as low as on the BR, Magnum, etc
>Have even less spread on the first 4-5 shots, but every shot after that has massive spread gain, with a much highjer overall max spread cone.
>Reduced fire rate.
>Add back headshot damage on shields like in the Halo 5 beta
This accomplishes a few things: The Adjuistment to the spread and bullet magnetism will make it so short bursts are highly accurate out to mid range if you can land them, but auto fire is widly inaccurate, and with so little bullet magnetism, very few shots past point blank will land. Meanwhile, in the beta, the headshot bonus on shields was OP as hell due to aim assist/bullet magnetism and higher accuracy; but with the now wildly reduced magnetism and far lower accuracy when fired full auto, this should actually require more accurate fire to lands consistent headshots, and the head is a narrower target, so missed shots are a bigger concern.
Plus, with the reduced fire rate, it also means that if you DON'T land consistent headshots, the time to kill will actually be worse, but if you CAN land consistent headshots, your time to kill will be even faster, as it should be: Consistently landing headshots with a fast firing, automatic weapon without it having a high amount of aim assist and magntism is super challenging.
This would effectively give the AR a unique role as a precision automatic, giving it a distinct niche from other autos and making it skill based.
Ayden Harris
>>Add back headshot damage on shields like in the Halo 5 beta
No.
Ayden Jenkins
It would work fine within the context of the other changes I suggested.
Unless you have some other suggestion for how to actually reward, encourage, and incentivize accurate fire?
Wyatt Ross
Headshots through shield is unintuitive. There has never been a weapon that dealt headshot damage through shields. It would be like a weapon damaging health directly while leaving shields untouched; it's something no other weapon does or has ever done.
The current one already incentivizes accurate fire. We don't need another burst weapon "just because". I'd argue we don't even need an AR either. Cut that, leave the SMG, and give the Sentinel Beam headshot damage like the Focus Rifle.
Dominic Robinson
I agree it was a huge problem on isolation and, to an extent, construct. I kind of liked it on construct though because that was sort of it's gimmick.
Benjamin Barnes
>already incentivizes accurate fire
No it fucking doesn't., You are actively punished for taking your time to use shorter bursts with it even at mid-close range compared to full auto fire, the miniscule amount of extra shots you land don't outweigh the reduced damage per second at all. And there's no reason tpo bother aiming for the head over the chest.
The AR in 5 might have a higher skillcap then past versions of it just due to the reduced firing cone but it's still a low as hell skillcap
>We don't need another burst weapon
It wouldn't be "another burst weapon" in the style of the BR (which is the only burst weapon). It would be an automatic weapon in which you have to actively change the length of your fire in response to the range of your target.
It's a niche the Halo games have never had before because Halo games always have fucking massive amounts of spread on their automatic weapons and have no encouragment towards using them accurately. THere's a strict binary between auto/spray weapons and precision ones in Halo, wheras other shooters tend to have other guns that are more in between., being automatic but accurate where you need to time bursts.
Giving the AR that role in Halo would actually make it work like an AR in the context of a sandbox that also has other autos like the SMG, and give it a role that the franchise has never had, and moreover, is fun to use.
>I'd argue we don't even need an AR either
I think that's a bit extreme. I do want a more unique, balanced sandbox reather then having like 30 samey guns, but I'd prefer more Halo 2 style. Have the AR as a accurate skill based auto as your automatic starting weapon/as a utility weapon alongside a scoped pistol (the 5 pistol was pretty much perfect), then the SMG as a powerful, but close range only pickup, alongside The plasma/storm rifle which can have slower projectiles but brings back the CE stun effect.
And I guess the needler/seitential beam if those count as "autos"
