Why do devs intentionally shoot themselves in the foot like this? Do they genuinely think it improves their sales somehow? I can't think of a single game where this has actually been beneficial in the long run barring maybe something like night in the woods where the game wasn't designed for normal human consumption yo begin with. It only ever brings negative reception and lossed sales and the most people can do to defend it is to say that the net loss was "not too bad" and yet it just keeps happening
