No idiot. It's in place because it's built on the legion engine which literally does not have a server infrastructure. There are no such thing as actual realms anymore. Blizzard just deploys cloud servers and sticks instances in them nowadays because it's cheaper than having one powerful server to oversee the entire game. It's never going away. The legion engine cannot even handle more than 100 people per zone.

People keep forgetting that you deploy enough hardware to cover the expected number of players, especially when they are paying customers on a monthly fee that precisely OVER covers the cost of the servers by a large margin.

Technically WoW Classic is built off the 7.X client and server, so it's a game from 2016, with a skin to make it look like 2004, overtaking a game from 2018.

Yes. Seeing predominantely cross-realm people on a shard means the servers are too empty, it's the system trying to create a full world even though there's nobody else but you in Hinterlands on your realm.
Sharding to handle full servers is oppposite, you'll have a bunch of shards filled with people from the same realm, split into these shards to lower sever load.

It's more of a early fall release than a summer release. Plus they're making you pay money to access what should be free. Older MMOs did official classic servers and they were free, but Blizzard Jews are doing layering/sharding in one the biggest US based datacenters in the world and are charging $15 per month on top of that.

Layering doesn't seem too bad then, my only concern is that they're predicting that a huge amount of players will drop off before Phase 2. Atleast there's no PvP ranking during Phase 1 because HK's could be exploited if there's an easy way to layer hop, it sucks but it's understandable

Both As and Cs get the same degree and once you get your first job no one even cares about where the piece of paper was from. why would you bother? The videos of people from alpha say shit is NOT the same. They're saying that Mana/HP regen rates are 2x faster on private servers and mob pathing is way different. It won't help all that much.

The vast majority of players will drop after a month or two. They'll go back, they'll get their nostalgia fix for the old Org bank and Barrens without the Cataclysm gash, then they'll be sated. In all seriousness that's probably all I'll do. I spent over 450 days of my life playing WoW throughout the expansions. Now that I'm done I have no urge to do it all over again.

There's tons of people only waiting to do PvP and if they're expecting the servers to be able to cope after Phase 1 it may be optimistic since so many could return for Phase 2

that's cool but it really doesn't matter when leveling other classes does nothing to progress your main character. XIV had a pretty neat concept with skill stealing basically incentivizing you to level other classes but they removed that in Stormblood.
