Vergeben's claim of Minecraft content is also a thing to take into account, while he NEVER confirmed Steve himself, it's still 50/50 between the content being a Mii costume or a character, a stage and music.

It's still insiders, nothing is 100% confirmed, but saying that no insiders are backing Steve is factually wrong.

Jokes aside, I can see Steve being a robust character if they get the most out of his block usage. For example, he has a small variety of blocks he can pick from that changes his specials where he uses them - slime blocks cause knockback and increase his recovery eg.

My own rosterfaggotry has functionality in mind, having characters with robust movesets.

Has a couple of different weapons that can be swapped out in a similar way to Shulk's Monado Arts. Weapon changes don't alter his attacks fundamentally, but the weapon type will change those attacks' speed, range, power and piercing capabilities (including A attacks and specials), making them a robust fighter with strong fundamentals.

>Banjo-Kazooie
Moveset pretty much writes itself, considering BK's moves from their own games. They have good strength with Banjo and bursts of unrefined speed with Kazooie.

My curveball. We've seen how effective she can be as a fighter already in her own game and in MvCIII. Those elemental attacks are a great basis for a moveset.

The Royal Arms and Ring of Lucii allow for a pretty robust moveset. Even the 5 different swords manage to be pretty unique from each other. Ring of Lucii could add in a gimmick that replaces parrying in the form of Holy.

Since I wanted to think about possibilities since almost everything is thrown out the window now, I thought about events leading up to the game, what both west and eastfags want and also how much of a madlad Sakurai is. So with 4 slots left for the fighter pass, this is what I decided on. Note it could happen in any order.

>A Bethesda Rep
It could either be Dovakhin, Pip Boy, Doomguy or the like. But gut feeling said one of these lads is getting in. Although Doomguy is a likely option here with him being considered the big daddy of FPS by many and having several games on Nintendo systems, along-side the fun of trying to make his moveset work and fit how he plays in his series for a fast-paced shooty character in Ultimate. There also Dovakhin, but all depends on if Todd Howard is trying to complete his ascension into memelord supreme by getting Skyrim into literally everything or not.

>A Microsoft Rep
With the countless cockteasing Phil Spencer has been doing for ages with "We'd love to see X in Smash Bros", someone from here is possible. Steve, for how much he is memed to death here, would be a possibility, or at least a Minecraft stage in case Sakurai can't make him work right. Banjo & Kazooie also are a huge fan fave choice after so many countless years, the moveset would write itself, and it would almost 100% complete Sakurai's original roster selection he wanted to do (or will when the autists holding James Bond's likeness for ransom finally let it go so Sakurai can put Bond in). Although if you want shock value for at least one pick, the big option here is Master Chief. Both for the HOLY SHIT, A MS CHARACTER ON MUH NINTENDOS, and for Sakurai's own unique take on how to make the Chief's weapons, shield system and so on work to be fun and not suffering to deal with.

The lads working on this game have Pac-Man so far added, and about every other 3rd party who put their hands in this shit have 2 or more reps. So them adding one more character for their hard work is a possibility. Heihachi is a good choice, allowing to showcase the kind of playstyle Tekken is known for, and allowing Heihachi vs. Ryu among other crazy shit. There's also choices like a Souls rep, someone from Soul Calibur, and even a character like Klonoa if you wanted to go out of left field with choices here.

>A Netherrealm rep
While everyone out there has been screaming WEN SQUEENIX REP to the heavens because of Erdrick and co, my money is on the most shocking addition for the fighter pass coming from the lads of Mortal Kombat. And whether it's Scorpion or Sub-Zero (depending on which side of the ninja coin Boon is having a boner over this time), it would allow for the biggest HOLY SHIT moment of the pass. Plus, not only has the series had plenty of Nintendo console game releases, one or the other would allow for the MK vs. Street Fighter crossover that we never have gotten before in its own way. Plus, Scorpion and Sub-Zero's own playstyles would allow for them to bring new shit to the table as well.

The only problem I find in that is, would Scorpion/Sub actually be allowed in the JP version of Smash given MK is banned in Japan?

putting almost everything else thats stupid aside why would steve look 1-1 from how he looks in the game, i don't think any other characters are a direct translation, even joker has some subtle touches that help him blend into smash
im sure we wouldn't get creepy steve level of redesign but i'd imagine he'd look more like the smoother promo art than the pixely shit look everyone keeps pushing

Honestly, I could imagine Steve being announced at E3. A western character for the western audience, and Erdrick announced for the east. Both are pretty deserving and have a lot of things pointing to them, Erdrick especially.

Can't wait for this Swordie/Sausage fest to be over. Ultimate will be known as "the game that brought back everyone but the playerbase".
