What happened to phone games? We had cool stuff like Geometry Dash, Monster Dash and Pocket God but now it's all just either a boring minimalistic endless high score type game or something designed to take stupid peoples money away.

Gacha happened and 99% of mobile followed suite. Also China

I also was recently wondering this, used to play Pocket God Years ago, and there hasn’t been anything to really follow up on Angry Birds. It’s weird

Someone please explain the concept of gacha to me. I don't understand what it is.

Spending real money on jpegs of anime characters

Paying money for jpgs. Not even kidding. Ironic weebs eat it the fuck up, it's pathetic.

Reigns was pretty fun, for bein basically a non-game.

Geometry Dash still has a fairly active community that produce fresh content everyday

Newcomers get tricked in the game by giving a BUNCH of stuff to them early-game. By the time you're at Mid-Late game, everything becomes a grind(unless you use money of course)

It's like a slot machine except you get waifus rather than money

Gacha games amaze me. How is it possible that the most popular one alone made more than a billion? How can something so effortless make so much money while making an actual good game with effort is considered risky?

touch screens alone are horrible for most genres

Geometry dash is still good but I prefer it on PC now
Tap titans 2 is an actually good incremental game that gets updates very often
Deemo is pretty good too but I believe it's on other platforms now

None of them were ever cool, mobile games are fucking garbage for underage children.

Essentially low effort fan service. The successful ones already have a large following to an existing IP to leech off of

why do ALL apps have icons with this AUTISTIC fucking artstyle

additionally to these it's basically a lootbox for said jpegs, but in these games these are not even actual crates/boxes but literal lottery tickets on a screen

Who do you think made this thread?
I hope you're at least saging.

atleast companies like cygames are using the money they funnelled out of the degenerates to make actual games. Honestly its a pretty good strategy

It's even worse. It's paying money to MAYBE get the .jpeg you want. Gachaniggers will throw money at the screen until they finally get the desired picture of their waifu.

One of those really popular clash of whatever mobile games used it and now every marketer on the planet thinks they're a genius for copying it.

characters/units/cards come from lootboxes that cost real money. These units also come in different rarities like 1-star to 5-star, normal to legendary etc. and in many games you can even combine the cards to make them even stronger. So basically you can pour thousands of dollars to get a lot of the strongest units and win againts players who spent less

Its Valve's fault. They were the ones that normalized loot boxes in western games.

Hold on I'm getting conflicting info here.
Is it just pay2win PvP? What is the actual gameplay like?
Sounds like some Hearthstone type of shit.

well the gameplay can be anything. But the games are built around the lootbox shit

I can’t speak for all gacha but the Dragon Ball Z one is Pay2Win

>Sounds like some Hearthstone type of shit
Essentially, yea.
Except i don't think you can craft what you want by breaking down dupes.

Gacha is a contraction of gachapon, which are japanese vending machines from which you can buy capsules containing trinkets (think pokemon figurine, ecc ecc) the contents are randomized. When it comes to phone games the term describes games with a similar "loop", your main goal is to obtain characters and resources much in the same way, at random. Since the odds for obtaining what you want are stacked against you can either invest a lot of time to usally make meagre headway or fork over money to speed up things like resource gathering or more simply tickets to try and get what you want. Like I said before the odds are stacked against you, any games of this type will actually require hundreds to thousands of $$$ in order to unlock everything. The core gameplay is based much on the famous skinner box experiment, (another term used to describe these kind of mechanics) and has proven to be very addictive to certain people predisposed for it. These kind of people have no qualms about shelling out large amounts of money to get what they want, they are called "whales" by the developers. Essentially a single whale can offset hundreds of non-paying customers.

>First two
Soul
>The rest
Soulless

I don't gotta explain shit, the other posts explain it perfectly, though some Gachas have substance, Like FE Heroes, where it's still rather fun and you don't need to sink money for it to be entertaining. Though RNG can be bullshit, when FE was new, friend got 3 hectors in minimal time where it took fucking forever for me to get one.

I also play Destiny Child and haven't spent a single fucking dime, they give you plenty, good animations, nice waifus, ez as fuck combat, and just entertaining enough to keep you hooked.

There are others, but nothing I have interest in at the moment.

>though some Gachas have substance
careful lads, it's contagious

People are telling mostly about weeb shit, but the actual point is giving you a free game and then lock important stuff behind loot boxes.
The biggest gacha games does contain anime trash thought, make your own assumptions

My friend plays Dokkan battle even while playing OTHER games and even when playing with me and it annoys me to no end. He didn't spend any money those and has pretty good shit so that's commendable at least.

Don't believe his lies

I said some , not all. I legit have fun playing FE. Nice game to do a couple rounds, then put down. Though I do understand people who are more vulnerable to it might feed into it a lot more.
Like this guy said, one "whale" can offset all the money I refuse to spend.

>FEH is fun
Ha.

Capitalism happened

I'm glad someone finally asked this. All I knew about them was that waifus were involved until this thread happened, and now I realize some of my old friends are actually hooked on this shit.

I rank number 1 local every tournament event and have never spent a dime. The DBZ one is actually super fair

DO NOT BELIEVE HIS LIES

>though some gachas have substance
"Good" gachas have about as much substance as its non-gacha counterparts, but usually less. Langrisser/FEH are decent games when compared to other Gachas but basic SRPGs all things considered.
Unless you REALLY get that kick out the waifu gambling dopamine (in which case, good for you, you live your life and have fun), there's not a single game that would be improved by being gacha.

Maybe you just fucking suck at it, user.

Lern2teambuild

Does anybody else find it weird that the most popular games on mobile emulate RTS games but RTS is a genres dead anywhere else

The only gatcha acceptable to play is Star Ocean.

I kinda liked Ridiculous Fishing but only the start of the game is fun. Halfway through the unlockables the game goes full retard and just completely misses the point of why it's fun and makes you use guns that directly undermine the game's funness.

I will not believe your lies

This is kind of outdated but it gets the point across

There are still great mobile games out there, sadly retards keep falling for those aforementioned shit games and finding the good stuff is near impossible.

The usual Yea Forums recommendation list for free, non-gachashit games is:
Buriedbornes / DeckDeDungeon
Shattered Pixel Dungeon
Chimera Recollect
Slayin'
Candies 'n Curses
Underhand
Night of the Full Moon
Deemo / Cytus
Duet

>jpegs of anime characters
this meme again. they're more than just jpegs. theres gameplay too you know.
youtu.be/1ypeElbwSOs

My friend hasn't spent a dime but plays it literally every waking minute of the damn day. While playing other games, while talking to me, while eating. It gets fucking annoying after a while but hey I guess anime .jpegs are more important.

silence weeb

>Shattered Pixel Dungeon
is it better than pixel dungeon?

I wanna recommend some games too!:
Soul knight
Evil Factory
Dan the Man
B.H Monday
PvZ 1 and 2
Skullgirls
Anything Supercell puts out

It's easier to make a shitty game full of mtx than a good game without them
also free game with mtx gets more players than paid game without them

Literally kill yourself zoomer

There are a lot of flash/html5 games that would make good mobile games. Prove me wrong.

Why are they all so mad. Can't we get along? ;_;

valiant force is a pretty tight game

Phone games were never good and I'm glad the fad has died down.

Remember when people said mobile gaming would take over

Base gameplay-wise it's the same. Allegedly SPD is supposed to be built on the Pixel Dungeon source and improved but honestly I haven't played vanilla PD enough to tell the difference.

Ah shit forgot Bullet Hell Monday. Others seem fine too, need to personally check them out. But c'mon, recommending PvZ is like recommending someone to play Mario on a Nintendo console.

I agree DBZ one is probably one of the best examples of it done right, but some people go overboard with it. The thing that gets me is the videos on YouTube of people watching other people pull giving them YT revenue and thus able to keep making the same types of videos

You forgot diablo immortal

Have you played Peace Walker? Center the game around base building and micro management but add real money to the mix.

One guy said that

The game has collectibles (like say the most common kind is character in an RPG) and you pull them at random like lootboxes

Some collectibles are common and weak and some are strong and rare, and you spend in-game currency in order to obtain them that you can also buy with real money

Yea Forums throws a shitfit about how it's gambling for waifu pictures but honestly many gacha game are generous in how many currency they give you and most of the points against gacha are parroted from article about some retard spending 3000$ because he had to pull his ultra rare waifu loli right now

How could they not be, gambling is as big of a business as drugs.Imagine all the Vegas casinos, but reachable to the whole population. Now remove all the costs with actually running a casino, all the eletricity, equipment, staff, building. Remove the payoffs too, instead of returning 50%-98% as prizes, make them valueless.
Gacha has tons of rooms to grow, when it breaks out of the weeaboo market.
>inb4 casino whales
Casinos don't make their money out of big players, they play the games with the highesg returns, and part of what they lose is given back as comps. High rollers are ads for the minnows, like middle aged women dropping a hundred at a slot machine

Do not...
