I always thought the PLD rotation of buffing physical damage, then magical damage was a neat take, but I see what you mean.

I actually don't want them to change a thing about BLM. The class works well as it is, and my faith in them not fucking it up somehow is nil.

I'd rather they stop trying to improve already well received classes and concentrate the resources that would've been used on them towards making new ones. If every class got its last skill at level 50 (And it had the same depth as most classes currently do), they could easily make an extra two jobs per expansion, and the bonus would be that the existing jobs would only require very minor tweaks over time to ensure they're all close in DPS/utility.

As far as dreaming though, I want all new dungeons to need eight people to do either in a 2/2/4 or 1/2/5 config, and all mobs be similar to trash in 24 man raids -- detailed encounters on their own. It's clear the masses of trash mobs with one ability apiece aren't very interesting, even when you do pull hundreds of them, so why not actually put in content that pulls the players out of their comfort zone a bit?

Also, I want to see CC become a thing again.

While that would be cool, I had a fever dream once about all leveling dungeons being 8 man and only needing one tank, while that would shit up encounter design a bit for that many people, it'd mean you'd be able to run 2.5x as many DPS through the queue in a given timeframe. If you're a fan of japanese-style slapstick comedy, the Hildibrand quests are a nice distraction after you hit level 50 and can help make the mind-numbingly tedious post-50 patch content a little more bareable. Other than that, unlock and run all the optional dungeons and trials. Pretty much any quest that has a blue "+" in the quest marker is worth doing. Those are the ones that unlock side-content and other classes.

Your class quests every 5 levels since they give you gear and new abilities. Hall of the Novice is also worth doing if you haven't, It gives you a ring that boosts exp while below level 30. You can ignore everything else. MSQ is by far the single most important thing to do in the game.

If you're having trouble with RDM then this game is probably too complex for you.

Side quests aren't really worth the experience, they're more for lore or the occasional unique reward like a special dance. Best thing to do as a new player is hammer out the MSQ and do the daily leveling roulette to ensure you're staying above the required level for the MSQ.

If you want to do something that'll be useful in the long run but not the MSQ, try the Disciples of the Hand/Land jobs, they can break up the monotony and make you some decent cash. Pick up a DoL class like Miner/Botanist/Fisher or go wild with a DoH if you really want to commit some time.

Do the story, yeah. Sidequests in general are one of the absolutely most inefficient ways to get exp, they are mainly just there for when you want to solo. The only ones you really should do are the ones marked with a blue plus sign, those all unlock new game systems and content.

For exp you should just do dungeons and/ or Palace of the Dead once you unlock it. The main story gives you more than enough exp to where you don't really have to though, should be able to just keep on trucking through it for the most part.

BLM is a piss poor tether choice since you can at most fit a single Astral phase into it. BRD, and MCH are usually the prime tether targets starting on a boss from nothing, if an RDM can build up his resources beforehand it should probably go to him, during trash pulls the WHM/AST can easily be one of the better options, etc. It really just depends on the situation.

That's the thing "if", you can never know what you're getting in PF, that's why bard - > melee is the safest option.

If you do DoH classes, it's best to level them all at once, since they all craft materials the others use. I'd say you could skip culinarian, but the cross class skills you get from it, hasty touch and Steady Hand II, are so useful that it's almost impossible not to.

Getting CUL, ALC, and WVR to 15 makes you able to HQ a lot of stuff without HQ mats or even decent gear just because you can fit in some many Hasty Touches to pump up Inner Quiet to 11, even with a lot of failure, Tricks of the Trade continually restores CP and lets you keep repairing durability to continue anyway. Steady Hand makes Hasty Touch just as good as unbuffed Basic Touch, SH2 improves it further. WVR's Careful Synthesis means you'll never fail a craft due to RNG, no matter how unlucky you are. Getting GSM up to 15 as well gives you manipulation, which is generally just a better way to repair durability for cheaper.

Any HQ item you craft after level 25 in a DoH will sell for lots of gil on the market board, people leveling alts shell out tons of gil for items while leveling because they have so much already, you can expect to make anywhere from 5k to 30k off of ARR stuff, and upwards of 100k from HW.

Yda and Papalymo were already close friends before the Circle of Knowing became a thing, and she was dispatched to Gridania with Papalymo because of the relevance to the Ala Mhigan Resistance. Plus, the real Yda wasn't completely dumb. She did achieve Archon status.

No, you're listening to theories cooked up by cutscene skippers. Ysayle had the Echo and both worshiped and summoned Shiva. She couldn't have worshiped another god if she was tempered by Hydaelyn. Ascians also have the Echo and are actively working to kill Hydaelyn. The Echo is just a strange phenomenon that pops up as a Calamity approaches, possibly from the weakening walls of reality.

Except for "whoa shit" damage-spike dungeons like Bardam's Mettle where you're suddenly getting molested and being able to Sleep portions of the crowd would be insanely useful for survivability

The characters all treat the Echo as though it comes from Hydaelyn, but there are a few things that point to that not being completely true. It always pops up as a Calamity approaches, which we know coincides with other strange phenomenon like the ability to summon primals. The last time the Echo sounded was after the Battle of Silvertear Skies which was the same time primals became summonable. The Ascians also have the Echo, although we know at least some of them were previous Warriors of Light.

I think the echo is just a quirk of nature manifesting in certain individuals, particularly around the time aetheric levels are going haywire in the time leading up to a calamity. Perhaps it's people soaking up aether before their birth, maybe it's something that develops over time from an early age, or maybe it's a latent gene or something that only expresses when the world is about to get fucked. I don't think it's really granted by Hyd, since it seems like she doesn't really interact with the world all that much beyond influencing a few battles we've done, though in her ostensibly weakened state, it's possible she can do a lot of shit we don't know about but lacks the strength to do so currently.

I don't doubt that Ascians pick it up like everyone else does, it's just those people eventually throw their lot in with Zodiark for whatever reason. We're still not exactly sure what Zodiark's goal is other than to usurp Hydaelyn's place in the cosmos from what we can tell. It's kind of strange none of the Ascians tell us why they're so interested in helping him in the first place.

One interesting possibility that's been tossed around is that the same quality that's involved in the body snatching power, the ability to resist death, is related to the reappearance. Like the Echo-blessed souls drift around the Lifestream without properly rejoining it and then slip back out as a Calamity approaches. But that wouldn't quite line up with the seemingly random selection of people who end up with the Echo, or them only acquiring it later in life, or that they're their own individuals with their own memories and not body-snatched hosts for some ancient warrior.

When a Calamity happens on our world, that's the Ascians initiating a collapse of a dimensional boundary. One of the Reflections is reduced to aether and shoved back into the Lifestream of our world. So far there have been seven Calamities, so seven of the other worlds are gone.

Each world has had a totally different history since the split 12,000 years ago. The geography is almost identical and there are some strange cases of synchronicity like Eulmore's similarity to Limsa, but otherwise it's all totally divergent.

It might be possible if echo blessed simply get spat back out of the lifestream and don't retain their memories somehow. I've heard the theory that the echo makes you incompatible with it, which has some grave implications unto itself, not the least of which states the echo user is effectively immortal.

I think the immortality part isn't something that's held by default though, but rather a skill that can be mastered for someone with the echo. Not all echo users can hop bodies, though I guess theoretically they could if they knew how. Same goes for a lot of the other quirks the echo gives, some people are just innately born knowing how to use it in that way.

Hydaelyn and Zodiark used to be together as one world, over 12000 years ago. Hydaelyn decided to excise Zodiark from the planet and he split off and became the moon, and exists now in a dormant state, but doing this caused the world to split into 13 reflections (+ the original so 14 total) which are like parallel dimensions. Each reflection started out in the same state as the original world but followed diverging paths of evolution, so there are many similarities but they are not identical.

Whenever a Calamity happens on the Source, one of the reflections is destroyed and its aether is "rejoined" with the Source's lifestream. Why exactly this happens is unknown, but the Ascians are trying to do this because they want to use the rejoined aether to reawaken Zodiark and return the world to its original state.

Hydaelyn is the planet but she is also characterized as the "will of light". The exact nature of the forces of light and dark aren't exactly known, but they don't seem to be under the direct control of Hydaelyn/Zodiark, they are more like fundamental forces of nature and Hydaelyn/Zodiark are merely avatars of or beings that represent those forces.

Exdeath was based off of a story from Hydaelyn, but they do talk about how Omega got Kefka from some other world that had already ended. It may have been from one of our Reflections, or it could have been from the literal FFVI world.

I don't think the void actually "lost" aether, assuming aether can't be destroyed. I think why it's called the void is because voidsent function a lot like primals and soak up all that aether, live forever, and thus never return it to the lifestream. The 13th is a void because the lifestream on that world is a barren husk, all the monstrosities are the things that hold the aether, and the only thing that causes them to lose it is some other voidsent killing them and sucking up all the aether they originally had. Without the lifestream, nothing can be born again, only the current life can exist. Theoretically, that could be rectified if you killed six billion voidsent before the others had a chance to suck up that released aether, but it's unlikely any force in the universe would be able to make a dent in it currently.

The other end of the spectrum is the 1st, the flood of light is actually returning the world to its primordial beginning, eradicating all the life and returning their aether to the lifestream. We don't want that because we want to continue living, Elidibus doesn't want it because it's going to set back his goal of rejoining that world until things break down and life starts to spawn again, Hydaelyn may or may not care one way or the other, as it does prevent the Ascians from furthering their goals but only at the cost of mass death.

That's all speculation though -- it's possible that the void actually did have all of its aether destroyed and voidsent function off of anti-aether or something else, and that a light planet is going to be scoured clean not only of life, but of aether as well.

On the other hand, it would also make sense if that a calamity on the first caused massive destruction of aether, the rejoinings would halt that somewhat by shunting all the aether of another world back into ours, repairing the damage. But then that'd mean there wouldn't be a whole lot of extra aether compared to before after the rejoining, meaning that it's not that great of a solution to rejoin all the reflections back to the source to revive Zodiark.

Whatever the answer, it'll be really interesting to see how it all plays out in ShB, which is shaping up to be FFIII part 2.

The thing about Dark is that within the series it's also associated with time fuckery. This even pops up in XIV with Nabriales invoking Zodiark to cause a time rift. So who knows what crazy shenanigans they can get up to there with that ability. You could also consider that crossing a dimensional barrier could enable you to move diagonally across time as well. We could be now receiving Voidsent that crossed the barrier 10,000 years ago in their world. XIV's lore has so much potential for mind bending shit like that, so yeah I'm also really excited to see what comes to light in ShB.

Except for Guild Wars 2 which has zero maintenance downtime no matter how big an update is and their servers are perpetually up.

There's also the whole Dissidia connection that seems to yank heroes when their games have them off camera, or villains as well now with Zenos. It just seems like the only constant is the Void itself between the games, with elements sprinkled in here and there.

Back in simpler times when a midget could own their own giraffes, which is probably why they have a Dhamel farm in Windurst all those years later and most players are oblivious to it.

It's really because our brief trip to Othard doesn't cover nearly as much as a typical regional exploration. "Yanxia" is really "Doma and nearby surroundings (the country is a fair bit larger than that), Azim Steppe is maybe half of the Xaela tribal area if you're being generous, and, yeah, Ruby Sea is some outskirts of Yanxia and Hingashi.
