Oh, boy, the HD version is one of the worst remasters in videogame history.
I feel genuine pity for those poor souls who played the HD versions as their first pay through.

It's weird. I replay SH3 more often and find it more intense to play, but I find myself thinking about Silent Hill 2 way more often. It's a work of art.

The HD remaster is serviceable. 2 is mostly untouched aside from some things like textures, but 3 forces you to use the new voiceover (which I found to be quite good actually) and is more prone to bugs in my experience. After you play you'll want to look up the differences in comparison videos, but it's not as bad as it's made out to be.

Comparing the 4 Silent Hills is really comparing apples and oranges, a lot of what makes one great is not the same as what makes another great.

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
DON'T use W10's own virtual disc app! Don't install under C:\Program Files\ !
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.

Follow the SH2 widescreen fix site's instructions to the teeth, and you should be fine.
For 3 & 4, check the Guide.

I think so, just because I like the meaty rusty aesthetic of 3 more than the cold foggy stuff from 2.

Not gonna lie, I played the enhanced SH2 edition and I loved it. I still have my ps2 copy, but I think the PC version has finally surpassed the ps2 version after all these years.

I felt 3 was more obtuse with the occult plot elements of the story. 2 has an aura of mystery about it as the game progresses, but the story is rather straightforward.

I forgot this was even a thing until now, I really hope it did get finished and released because SH1 is one of my favorite games of all times and I'd love to explore it with that camera.

Ah, I see you've never seen any of the legendary camera hack screenshots from way back.
There's FUCK TONS of entire modeled and textured areas in all of the original SH games that you cannot even access by default! Also tons of "pointless" details that you literally could not ever make out in the native, noisy 240p output.

3's enemies were more threatening than 2's but they were also more annoying IMO

Trust me on this: you do not want to play either one of the SH HD Collection versions. Period.
Especially the SH3, which not only does not even offer classic VA option, but also happens to be the most buggy and broken of the two games included on the disc.

Seriously, even the original Team-Silent's developers HATE the "HD collection". THAT is how bad it is. There is also a TWO HOUR long, super detailed review / analysis video on Youtube, which is all about how terrible the HD ports are, and why. Once you've beaten the original games, and got an evening to spend, check it out.

The games were written and acted in English, and they're good. Dunno what else to say; Team-Silent's guys and gals were said to be super strict detail-maniac workaholics, who demanded utmost perfection even from the game's actors - who by the way did both the mo-cap AND the VA for their characters, also providing their facial features for the 3D models.

I think that silent hill 3 was better in terms of gameplay. More and better boss variation (sh1 had good bosses too) Also better enemy variation.

Silent hill 2 had more of the stupid puzzles like the first but the story was better, however it doesnt get really good til you reach the hotel near the end. Also first and last boss were the same boss and not as much regular enemy variety.

One thing i dont care for in the silent hill games is the pacing. I like the parts in the series where after a boss there is some down time to just explore and not be rushed into the otherworld.

Silent hill 1 had good moments like that, except in the later parts of the game. Silent hill 2 had fewer moments like this but the hotel part was a good cool down from dealing with the prison and in my opinion the hotel was the best part of the game. Silent hill 3 didnt have as good pacing as the others.

It had better graphics (God the graphics for the game are outstanding, they still hold up) while things such as music/design are all personal preferences. I think the two things that it objectively does worse than 2 is a) the overall story in 3 is not very interesting, and b) the game's pacing feels kind of fucky--the game feels like it loses a lot of steam once you beat the Hospital/Leonard, while 2 is able to keep momentum going all the way to the end
