How long do you think valve will be put into the poorhouse and steam will be shut down, rendering all the games everyone's bought on it worthless?
memes aside, Epic's strat of "Bribe people to make a monopoly" is working incredibly well and there's no end in sight to the strat stopping working short of legal intervention (which won't happen)
Steam will eventually be forced to compete, either with exclusives or lower prices. Either way it’s a win for consumers as both launchers are free to use and install
Lincoln Murphy
>or lower prices. user, they do sales like 12 times a year where they cut the prices on games but 30-70%, what more do you want? Epic's never going to do sales like steam does.
Asher Morales
Or you can cut out the middle man and pirate, if they want to do shitty console tier exclusivity then fuck them
Henry Moore
I’m assuming you meant to reply to me, they could lower prices on specific titles like for example let’s say years down the road borderlands 4 comes out, steam could offer it for 10 dollars less than epic, considering how the launcher is free there will automatically be way more sales on the steam store. Yeah obviously you can always pirate, but this doesn’t exactly work for online games, along with a few other downsides to pirating. But I’ve certainly pirated my fair share of games user
Jack Wright
Sharkbite is absolute pleb tier Home Depot shit
Luis White
Has Epic's exclusivity deals actually had any effect on Steam's profits?
Jaxson Lopez
they need to compete with a lower cut, publishers know steam is a bigger market, but they can justify getting half the sales if they make more per sale
Aaron Hernandez
Every sale that epic makes from an exclusivity deal is one that would have gone to steam if the epic store didn't exist.
While its hard to tell which a person would choose if there was no exclusivity and the games were both released at the same time, most people would go steam due to it being a better service with all their games already on it.
Austin Wright
hard to say since PC gaming is still a growing market
I can say that I've bought 3 games on the epic store that I would have got on steam if they weren't exclusive, so that means steam lost some money from me
Jeremiah Carter
Certainly, millions bought metro exodus on pc that didn’t buy it on steam. And they are gonna lose a ton of money from borderlands as most purchases of a game happen around launch and steam won’t be able to sell it for a few months losing tons of revenue from the game. It’s not so bad right now, but if they continue to let epic walk all over them they will get seriously fucked
Nolan Russell
Valve will continue to make money hand over fist, and without needing to please any shareholders or chinese overlords
Blake Morris
That’s pretty hopeful thinking user
Josiah Hill
Until Epic takes a good weeb game from steam it doesn't exist to me.
Landon Nelson
>being forced to use a shitty store that offers LITERALLY NOTHING for consumers is good for consumers because at least the store is free to install Go away you fucking chink moron
Cameron Clark
i don't care i don't buy video games anymore i don't pirate either
Eli Young
why are you here
Josiah Green
until Epic takes a game for more than 12 months it won't matter for me. I have such a backlog of games due to steams 70% off sales that it won't matter to me, I'll just play one of the games I already got lined up and wait a few months.
The only one that might cause issues is borderlands due to having friends who'll want to play it "RIGHT NOW" and won't want to wait, since its more of a multiplayer game.
Parker Jones
>Steam won't be able to make money by selling games after their initial release window Steam makes the vast majority of its revenue during market-wide price slashing Steam sales.
Didn't Satisfactory sell single digit numbers on Epic, because it was on Epic? I don't see how Epic is doing "incredibly well" if it's causing low sales numbers like that.
Henry Morales
Never bought a game, desu. Firstworlders will pay for anything, anyway.
Kayden Stewart
>M-muh chinese boogieman Listen fag I’ve never actually bought a game on epic store but desu you sound retarded for having such a blind loyalty to a multi-million dollar company like steam. Let me break down how business works in a way in which a simple minded organism like you can understand. Let’s say you have a gay sex shop by your house that you enjoy going to, suddenly another gay sex shop opens that starts selling the same stuff, the new shop then takes away suppliers from the other shop and starts selling that suppliers stuff that used to be available at the old store. This doesn’t matter to you because it’s the same price at the new store and it’s the same distance away, well in order to compete with the new store the old store will now start slashing prices to get you to shop there again. Boom capitalism 101 in a way that I know a faggot like you will be able to understand
Liam James
all these epic shills
Carson Robinson
Regardless there is still a huge amount of revenue that will be lost from missing the initial launch, also I don’t believe that a game like bl3 will get discounted that hard in a steam sale unless it’s been at least a year
Logan Robinson
altright scum
Luke Miller
Actually all I’ve seen is people having a legitimate conversation about business and the nuances of the digital games marketplace. The fact that you’d say there are tons of “epic shills” itt means you probably suck Gabe Newell’s dick hard enough to actually care about which free launchers you use. btw I’ve never used epic, I just hate shills of all kinds
Robert Clark
I doubt epic's strategy is viable over the long run, or even meant to be. Destroying steam probably isn't even in the 'wildest dreams' list of hopeful goals, they just want to get a decent chunk of the market on their platform by throwing money at exclusivity deals and higher developer cuts, hoping that steam blinks first to make them look better before they inevitably have to reel some of that back so they can actually make money on something that isn't fortnite.
Andrew Martinez
No one fucking cares, get over it you subhuman autists
Epic store isn't doing that well. The only game they've bragged about with sales numbers sold 250k and probably would have sold a million if it was on Steam.
Epics even said their 12% isn't sustainable and they are just using it to poach as much from Valve as possible. Valve are so uneffected by this that they've yet to respond.
Games on Epic aren't cheaper despite the 12% cut and may even be more expensive. This is because Epic don't pay transaction fees and pass them on to customers (the 12% cut means they don't make enough to pay transaction fees while Valves 30% means they do). This is the biggest reason Epic is trying to make games exclusive on their store. So you can't just buy it for cheaper on Steam.
Jason Peterson
>epic store's strat making bank are you retarded? theyve flat out said they're doing this at a loss. it's completely unsustainable. they're just hoping valve gives in and cuts them in on steam profits before they run out of money
Juan Edwards
I have no where else to go
Nathan Robinson
I don’t think you know what a shill is user. But you can keep calling me that if it make sense you feel better about being one
Dylan Cooper
It's not viable, it's a publicity thing. They're taking sales away from Steam by making it not available on Steam, which unfortunately for them, doesn't translate into more sales for them. The hard part is getting people to stick around after the exclusivity deal ends. Outside of these threads, all I hear is people say that it's a shame the game won't be anywhere other than the Epic store.
Lincoln Roberts
People are going to have to start making games I'm interested in buying before any of this matters No fortnite and dota aren't going to do it for me.
Blake Green
>Steam will be forced to compete with exclusives or lower prices Steam was never about restricting what the developers want to do with their game, you could release it in any form elsewhere and Valve wouldn't give a fuck. Lower prices won't work either since Valve has no say in pricing, developers/studios can even set when a game should go on sale (or shouldn't if they don't want it to go on sale at all).
Nolan Morgan
epic isnt making any money with their "strat" they're literally losing millions with every game
Elijah Garcia
Steam's always going to be around because they have sales. I went to the EGS, there's no sales section. Or reviews. Or ratings. Even PlayStation does sales and ratings. If there's no reviews or ratings, how am I supposed to know if the game's any good or not? And if the games are $40 on EGS, but like $9 during a sale on Steam, I know which one I'm getting.
Christian Smith
I see, but while valve doesn’t have to lower their cut to 12% they could possible lower the price charged for a single game. Look the fact is that as long as epic keeps making exclusives and releasing games sooner more and more people are gonna start using it which will in turn lower steams user base and force them to find some way to attract customers to their service. For example I’ve used steam for years and never used epic, but I’m gonna have to but bl3 on it since I don’t wanna wait months to play it (assuming its good). Let’s say they keep doing shit like this on epic store and force me to buy more and more games, sure I’d prefer to use steam but what if they keep doing the exclusive thing. Well eventually it’ll get to the point where most of my library is on epic and there’s no point in buying steam games anymore. Steam literally HAS to do something to bring customers back otherwise they will get fucked. Regardless of what they decide to do it will probably benefit the consumer with better deals or something
Isaiah Bell
>disliking Epic means you are loyal to Steam Show an example of the Epic store leading to lower prices for consumers
Christopher Campbell
Well regardless they HAVE to do something in order to attract consumers or they will start losing profits
Aaron Ward
>Steam literally HAS to do something to bring customers back otherwise they will get fucked. You mean other than being the best service available on the market?
Ayden Baker
Epic have said their business model is not sustainable. It's a race against time and all Valve has to do to win is wait.
If it ever looks like Epic will pose a threat to Valve, then Valve will respond. Until then, in the current fight between Valve and Epic, Epic is basically just punching themselves in the face to get attention, why would Valve stop them?
Hudson Brooks
altright bitch
Brody Hall
This was touched on here Essentially, steam HAS to find a way to attract consumers to their platform as opposed to epics, for decades steam has dominated the online games marketplace with little to no competition. Now there is another service which is legitimately threatening to take away their paying customers, they have to find some way to attract said customers to using their service as opposed to using epics because then they will legitimately lose a lot of profit. Again this is basic business
Gabriel Moore
There's a few things Steam can do to improve their store. When there's sale, I'll scroll through a lot of "games" that looks like it came from Newgrounds. Kinda drowns out the good ones, I wished they section the store off so I can get through the important stuff first. But I'm never going to use Epic. That Chinese spyware shit? No thanks.
>Steam literally HAS to do something to bring customers back otherwise they will get fucked. You've made an erroneous assumption in that Steam has to bring customers back. Customers aren't leaving for the Epic store, the majority of them just don't buy the Epic exclusives. Steam's userbase is large enough to be able to ignore people who refuse to use more than one online store.
Ayden Hill
Yes
Daniel Gray
They already are but you wouldn't know like most of the things Valve does, most people love to say Valve isn't doing shit when it's the opposite. To name an example, they are putting in a lot of work in growing Steam in places like Russia or Asia where it isn't so widespread as it is in the US or Europe, and those efforts are paying off.
I hope Valve does start buying exclusives. I want to see Sweeney's mental gymnastics on why it's ok when Epic does it after shitting on Steam for it.
Bentley Lewis
You’ve made the erroneous assumption in that customers aren’t leaving for the epic store. This is only the beginning user, it started with metro exodus which sold millions, and now bl3 will have a HUGE release which steam won’t get any profits from. If epic keeps doing this then people’s entire games library will be on the epic store and they’ll just start buying games there instead. Like I said this has only just started, but if epic keeps doing this it will just get worse and worse for them
Robert Watson
Fuck off, it won't happen. It's already retarded enough that there are people believing that Steam has exclusives because the game isn't available elsewhere when it's the studio that is solely responsible if they want to release it somewhere else or not.
>being this delusional You're not even trying to make sensible points or arguments so you can fuck off too.
Nathan Cox
>Metro Exodus sold millions
There have been no sales figures released for it on Epics store.
The only time Epic has bragged about sales figures is with World War Z and it's 250k sales. It's strange how they'd brag about 250k sales here but not about the supposed millions you claim Metro Exodus has sold.
Michael Jackson
Epic blowing money, and running a business model where they are recouping none of it isn't bad for its competition.
Jackson Young
Can't leave a store you don't enter, user. And there's nothing stopping somebody from having Epic and Steam installed on the same pc. They're not mutually exclusive, and it's dumb to assume somebody's going to delete steam because they installed Epic. Space so you can tl;dr easier. Prove to me that people are not giving Steam business anymore because they're shopping on Epic; without simply stating that Epic is getting "x" amount of business.
Jace Barnes
>yfw when epic hires Half-Life writers and releases the spiritual successor to Half-Life 2 Please make it happen, chink overlords.
Ethan Turner
Oh and your point just now was sensible? You clearly don’t have an argument user, my point was clear and concise and if you knew anything about business you’d know that’s how competition works. I don’t know if it’s that you have a blind loyalty to steam or just a hate boner for epic but you can take your corporate brainwashed sensibilities and fuck off
Jackson Stewart
no one is leaving for the epic store even the few people who do use it, also use steam this hasnt put a noticeable dent in valve's profits meanwhile epic is losing shitloads of money
Gabriel Walker
You're being an idiot. But seriously where the fuck is Unreal 3?
Cooper Jones
>having your games tied to steam's launcher is bad because, if steam decides to, they can make them all useless >Epic would never do that though, they're your friend :))))) >DRM is good goyim, trust (((us)))
Imagine being a disgusting paypig who defends corporate interests.
I never said people were uninstalling steam, I said IF (keyword) epic keeps doing this than peoples games libraries would just primarily be on the epic store thus now making them epic customers, if steam is smart thell try to prevent this
Josiah Reyes
I just want HL3 ;_; The writer don't even work for valve anymore
Landon Garcia
See
Jordan Peterson
NO STEAM NO BUY
Ian Cook
>2 games, one which wasn't even released, are supposed to take down Steam Steam didn't flinch when EA stopped publishing their games on their nor did they when Ubisoft did which both house way more popular franchises and titles than Metro and Borderlands retard
Kevin White
Why? I’ve never used epic but I don’t see what difference it makes
Nicholas Ward
I didn't claim loyalty to any store. You have to be legitimately retarded to believe that epic's tactics have been or will ever be good for consumers. They aren't helping the PC marketplace at all. The only effect this is having is that publishers are getting good deals, faggy journos have their pointless articles written for them, and consumers are getting screwed by games being held hostage on their shitty, featureless store.
Blake Ortiz
Epic launcher isn't free you're paying with all your personal information
Connor Young
You fucking nigger my whole point was that steam would be fucked should epic continue doing what they did with those big games. nice goal post move Faggot
Cameron Cruz
Here's the thing, Epic isn't making permanent exclusive deals. It's not sustainable, and they know it. If it's available on both Steam and Epic, chances are people already own it on Steam if they want it, or it'll be on sale for Steam far sooner than with Epic. Just because a store is there doesn't mean it's generating preferential sales to another store. From what I can tell, Epic doesn't even run regular sales like Steam does, so Steam has better prices more regularly than Epic, which leads to reason that people would shop at Steam to save money.
Matthew Ross
GIVE ME ONE GOOD REASON WHY I SHOULD DOWNLOAD ANY LAUNCHER, BE IT STEAM OR EPIC OR UPLAY OR WHATEVER.
I DO NOT TOLERATE DRM OR COMPANIES TELLING ME WHEN I'M ALLOWED TO PLAY MY GAME. AND YES, I SAID "MY" GAME. I'M BUYING IT, NOT RENTING IT. TRY TO PUL UP YOUR STUPID EULA, AND I'LL JUST GO RIGHT TO THE PIRATE BATE.
Jeremiah Hill
I like having achievements on steam. I'll probably never buy any game on epic. Rebel Galaxy outlaw which I'm looking forward to will be a pirate.
Carter James
It hurts steam, steam will try to bring back customers, this will be good for steam customers who want better deals
Adrian Bell
You are retarded thinking that's a goalpost
Sebastian Allen
So what was it then? You just not being able to read?
Julian Thomas
But how will that make MY experience better? I will only consider it a good move if games become cheaper, devs AND publishers lose money, and epic/steam lose money. Only I'm allowed to benefit from this, otherwise it's nothing more than corporate greed at play.
Gavin Lopez
EA pulling their games off of Steam was a fucking prime example that not having those games won't do shit, the games Epic is buying exclusivity for are multitudes smaller than EA and here you are claiming Epic will end Steam if they keep buying exclusives you sub 70 IQ nigger
Thomas Gonzalez
what's epic's end goal? get valve sold to microsoft which tencent as a whole can't compete with?
William Reyes
Who is buying from epic? What are their sales numbers? I doubt they're doing alot if they're not willing to give out metrics
Isaiah Hall
You think people are just going to abandon the hundreds of games they already have in Steam? Fuck you’re stupid
Luis Bailey
Valve hasn't even said a word about any of this so I doubt their bottom line is hurting much, if at all.
Michael Cox
Their sales figures are basically "dude just trust me".
Ryder Edwards
>millions bought metro exodus i see, talking out of your ass.
Charles Scott
This but unironically
Luis Reed
Epic doesn’t give a fuck about security or even warning their customers when their shitty security is breached which is all the fucking time. $800 charged to my PayPal all because I used PayPal on their store a single time to buy the shitty fortnite co-op. When you give Epic any sort of payment info it’s automatically setup as reoccurring meaning they can bill you at any time without any notice.
Wyatt Phillips
You’re retarded if you think Steam is actually losing customers. People will buy whoever they get the best price and that is Steam. Some will go to other stores for exclusives and that’s it
Ryder Williams
They are just trying to find a new cash cow because they know their only game is dying
Tyler Rogers
if you don't support steam then you are a redditor please leave
Ryder Morgan
Millions probably did buy it but not from Epic. People seem to forgot it was for sale on steam for quite a while
Austin Young
Will they? So far they haven't even flinched.
Bentley Carter
Except only one of those gay sex stores is selling the product I'm interested in. Games aren't interchangeable, if I want to play LootandShoot 3 and it's only on Epic, it doesn't matter how cheap shitty knockoff 67 is, I still only want to play the Epic exclusive. What Epic is doing is cancer that will ultimately result in Exclusivity wars ala consoles and instead of improving PC gaming it will be irreversibly worse off as a result.
Julian Nelson
A reminder that it's far easier to pirate games on the Epic Game Store compared to steam
Gabe is sitting on enough money that he doesn’t need to give a fuck. Epic really only has a single income source and it’s gonna run dry long before Valve does.
This isn’t the first time some new store has opened up. It’s not even the first time a new store has exclusive games so I don’t know why people think Epic’s chink store is any different.
Asher Young
Shark bites are fucking trash, never use them. Solder that shit or go to hell.
Brayden Lopez
Times exclusives are really pretty pointless. Yes Epic will get some sales for it but a lot will also simply wait until that game is released on a better store. PC gamers are very patient unlike console kiddies
Jackson Wilson
Valve probably doesn't care because they're working on VR stuff which will bring in more money if it gets good enough
Cameron Green
A reminder that Sweeney already paid the devs/publishers for your game copy.
Camden Turner
Imagine actually being a tencent/ epic shill. What a sad existence
James Ward
steam already attracts customers by providing a better service and not being owned by the chinese. the only thing epic has to off is browbeating you into using their store by moneyhatting kike devs with chinkmoney. you'd have to be a grade a rube not to punish that kind of behavior as a consumer.
Luis Cooper
It's making them bank, huh? Really, I didn't have a clue, since I pirated everything I wanted from that store.
Cameron Robinson
It’s really mind boggling that people will defend a company that openly admits to being anti consumer. Let’s not forget this same company completely abandoned The PC market
a lot of people pushing ebbic seem to be leftoid commie types, game jurnos ect. So its not really surprising they'd jump at the chance to become some china owned corporations paypig
Elijah Jackson
Steam will not lower prices because the publisher choose the price. And so far everything that got exclusive got more expensive on epic + have no sales or regional pricing. The only thing that will happen is exclusivity war, people will be forced to install (and run in background) 100 different stores (some being Chinese spyware like epic), and all the stores will actually raise cut / prices to make up for the price they paid for exclusively. In addition there will be a shift in business model and games will start focusing on being bought as exclusives rather than being good and bought by real customers, ie all games will turn into hype bait and only try to create fake buzz to get exclusivity money. Furthermore this will kill indie completely as it's harder to get noticed by the stores as indie.
You have to be either a complete retard or a chink shill to say it will be good for anyone except Tim's wife boyfriend who'll get more expensive gifts from him.
No they fucking don't. I am sick and tired of you epic shills acting like you're lighting up a fire up steam's ass when in reality gabe scratching his fucking ass generates more heat then you did all this time. Sometimes I just wish steam would increase their fucking cut just to show you how irrelevant you are
