I dunno, did they go wrong? I kinda like mine.

>clicky sticks is hard to make

That looks like it's being sold at a high price.

These minis are kind of crappy and overpirced for being glorified emulation... even worse, they became scalper's target and fuck scalpers.

>PSMini was such a failure they hardly worth $40

>Neo Geo Mini out for a week
I thought it came out months ago
Am I losing my fucking mind

If you lack the setup or remote method of streaming from PC to TV, they make for good little emulation boxes once you hack them.

they release all sorts of rehashes and re-releases. It's really nothing special.

says here it came out a week ago
jbhifi.com.au/retro-gaming/neogeo-mini-international-console/362879/

>Rubbish tiny arcade cabinet
>Bad picture quality when hooked to a TV
>Game selection split between regions for no reason
>No way to get full liblary on the system
>No clicky sticks
Not to mention that menu and everything else just looks cheap. I know, most of the time with these systems is spent playing games, not looking at menus, but it just hammers in the point about this being half-assed product that B-team shat out, rather than being something stylish and worthy of SNK name.

The reviews for it were back in September

Huh, wonder why it took so long to get over here.
EBGames doesn't even have it at all, and they have every other plug-in-play emu box

It's too expensive.

I really wish it had been a better product.

It sounds like so long as you're not a stickler for the full analog and changed button layouts, it works perfectly fine in portable mode even if lacking in presentation. The big problem is the blurry TV output and the laziness in the controllers.

>$140
lmao, I'd pay $80 tops, looks neat though

ive had mine for a few months now, dunno why its saying they just came out.

>no-frills emulator
>terrible upscaling for 720p
>No option for battery for portable play
>mushy buttons, stick is shit
>the d-pads on the stand-alone controllers suffer as much

The bad controls was what mainly broke it for me.

Maybe SNK don't give a shit about Australia?

What games does the Neo Geo even have? Metal slug, that beat 'em up game, that fighting game are the only three that come to mind. Not shitting on it, genuinely curious on the lineup.

Different regions getting radically different game selection also annoys me. And since this isn't Nintendo, people aren't in nearly as much of a hurry make modding tools for adding extra games in.
As it is, you'll have better Neogeo retro experience by plugging some arcade sticks to your computer and using a regular emulator.

PS Mini has to be the worst blunder this console generation. Even worse than the Xbox One launch and the Wii U.

I thought psmini was for the tv? It isn't? is it a handheld?

what's the point when you can download these games on something playable with a good monitor/TV like a PC, XBOX One or PS4?

No, it is, i'm just saying they're easy ways of setting up emulating games on your TV.

There's quite a few, and several different versions of the Mini console too! So who knows what you'll get if you buy one.
snk.fandom.com/wiki/Neo_Geo_Mini#Available_Games

neo geo has hundreds of arcade classics. you don't know what you're talking about, kid.

Exactly, I've yet to see anything shit the bed as hard as the Playstation Classic.
Which really hurts cause I was interested in getting one.

The PS mini was complete fucking garbage
The fucking SNES mini ran PS1 games better than the god damn PlayStation mini

Jesus, this is almost like chinese bootleg tiers of fuckery.

it was such a failure that after they announced it I've never heard about it anymore. I didn't even know it was already released.

I just looked into MAME for the sake of Neo Geo stuff on my own terms, only to find out that every Neo Geo game is an absolute nightmare of file formats, and MAME is too in general. What the fuck.

is it that bad? are the games badly emulated?

how does SNK even stay in business anymore? KoF is dead and what the fuck else do they have?

I grew up in rural Canada, I thought arcades were only a concept until we moved to a big city. By the time I realized they weren't a myth, they were outlawed. I recognize the name but beyond KoF, Metal Slug, Fatal Fury, I have no idea what games they did.

>So who knows what you'll get
I mean, I would LIKE to know what I'm paying for, but thankfully they made a chart.
>10 iterations of the same fighting IP
Is there a huge difference from one to the next or am I just safe playing the newest one and ignoring the rest?

Just use Final Burn Alpha

It runs worse than OG hardware; they swapped out some NTSC games to PAL so it'd only have to do 25fps instead of 30!

Licensing shit. They're also apparently working on a new NEO-GEO for....reasons. Probably end up being some SoC glorified linux-box like everything else these days, because SNK sure as hell isn't trying to get back into the bleeding-edge arcade game.

meant for

What is this, boomer vidya for ANTS?

arcades are outlawed in canada? wtf

if youre talking about King of Fighters, each game has its own flavor of mechanics and roster, but generally 98 and 2002 are the favored from the series, so start with either of those.

Their games are more distributed than Sega's ones. They got a Humble Bundle, Google Play, GOG and Steam release.

Sadly doesn't count; It's not a videogame system, just Sony trying to bank from a place where Nintendo succeded (as usual) and utterly failing (again, as usual)

The PS1 Mini has higher specs than the SNES Mini, by far - and it even technically inches out the Raspberry Pi 3 that everyone loves to point towards. The big, seeping problem in the room was that whoever slopped the thing together didn't even bother to optimize a goddamn thing on top of the aforementioned PAL roms problem. They just put PCSX Rearmed in without configuring it at all. The slightest tweaks of clockspeeds and frame times can basically make most games run just fine, and running Retroarch through a flashdrive into the damn thing can result in most PS1 games running way smoother than they do by default.

The capability is there, which is why i'm glad there's a strong hacking scene for it and Autobleem exists, but it's also less plug-n-play since you either have to add conductive ink to very specific spots so you can bypass the power limitations in the USB ports, or you use very specific underpowered USB 2.0 drives to run things through them into the system.

I would rather kill myself than go to all this trouble for a system that can be emulated already on your fucking phone. .

Jesus fucking hell, how incompetent do you have to be? And this is apart from the other glaring issues like not having DualShocks and the atrocious game selection.

SONY: one of the biggest corporations in the world
what a bunch of faggots.

My guess is that less than 10 interns and one contractor guy worked on this thing, since they had like 30+ other games that they tried to negotiate for being on there that were out-and-out proper classics - moreso than Rainbow Six and Destruction Derby - and either simply couldn't or didn't bother trying to get the rights for. Hell, we can probably halve that number to like, six people designing the thing and slapping the emulator and ROMs in. Remember - there is no security on this device besides the USB power limits. Just plugging in a keyboard can let you turn on the emulation menu, and labeling a compatible USB drive as "SONY" is all the bypass you need to be able to upload shit from the drive onto the system with the right hacks.

Sony is capable of being impressively incompetent.

The console is literally 20 bucks now, and you know what? It have THE BEST hacking/homebrew scene of all the mini consoles. Not only you can easily fix the region issue, but you can improve the resolution and speed of it. You can play PSP games on it, as well as everything snes, megadrive, etc thanks to retroarch. You can use a PS4 pad on it with some tweaks to retroarch, though, is kinda buggy, they are working on a way to make it compatible on future builds. Also, hacking it is so freaking easy as plugging a USB drive on the second pad.

It may have been the blunderish of all, but it is easily the best of all miniconsoles if you aren't an idiot using a PC.

Attached: D4YX2aiU8AAZx3x.jpg (600x412, 41K)

nah thanks. I'll just pay 30 bucks for a raspberry pi

How much space does the system have? Just wondering if there's a space to add some extra ones, or if you gotta swap stuff in and out.

Pretty sure Ashens has already reviewed this mini console, and it was shit. I mean, Ashens thought it was ok for novelty purposes, but shit for everything else. So there you go.

>$20
Then I'll wait for a sale then, not paying that when I have a PC for proper emulation.... AND A FUCKING PS1!

They ran out of CRTs.

Why waste money on shitty plastic when you can play Samsho and all the other SNK games for free online with other players with fightcade?

It's all USB drive based rather than system based, unlike the NES/SNES Minis. But it's very picky, kind of a pain in the ass unless you either mod the system, know what to look for, or use a powered USB hub to circumvent the limitations.

>Where did SNK go wrong?
no microswitches.

Is it membrane buttons? How does the stick work?

SBCs are good for various things around the house, but if you want a decent emulation set up that'll pump out decently to a 4K television you're gonna need to spend a bit more.

I have a good laptop. I use raspberry pi more as netflix/media player. but thanks for the bullshit.

Why crappy? The fuck are those microswitches? I'm unironically interested in that "mini" console than all the other mini shit. Looks comfy. I like handhelds/things with screeens.

stick works like your regular analogue stick on any gamepad, aka it's smooth and not clicking. Same goes for controller.
and yes, membrane buttons

Attached: file.png (258x350, 160K)

absolutely disgusting

i think the neo geo one is the only mini with a screen, dude.

The PS1 Classic is actually really fuckin neat if you don't feel like lugging your PC into your living room and hack it to add the extra PCSX ReARMed settings and game adding through USB. The one gripe is you'll need a USB hub for two controllers + the hacked USB, or a powered hub if you have anything more demanding than a USB 2,0 64GB stick. I'm currently in my first playthrough of a ton of games because of this.

On that note, throw me shit. Here's my list.

Attached: file.png (492x891, 47K)

yep. what the point of making that shit if you don't even appeal to your niche is beyond me

Attached: index.jpg (225x225, 10K)

Brave Fencer Musashi and Breath of Fire 3, obviously. As an aside question, does Misadventures of Tron Bonne emulate properly now?

I know, that's why i'm interested in buying one, it's kinda expensive though.
The fuck's wrong with membrane buttons? I don't get it. You want a full arcade experience on that toy?

Haven't tried it yet. Was there issues with it I should look out for?

Play threads of fate, legend of mana, tony hawk 1, medievil 2, spyro and crash games ( i like spyro much more)

Not sure, i've not tried because I remember hearing it didn't emulate properly. But that was years ago, before the PSN re-release.

It still doesn't emulate properly.

>3.5 inch display
Why couldn't they just make one with a 10 inch display at least? I'd play that shit on the kitchen counter all the time.

Attached: image.png (300x300, 8K)

Do you have any idea how much those boards cost, asshole? Do you think I'm made of money?

Because they're retards. what else?

they couldn't shell out for microswitches and non-membrane buttons, not even for the external pads you can plug into the thing. you think they'd bother making a display that big?

good buttons and switches are so cheap and easy to design around, and this company is supposed to have at one time made arcade cabinets? this is the epitome of soulless, I guess they thought their fans would just take it up the ass and buy it anyway even though they clearly didn't care at all about what fans would want.

Even worse, they are literally ripoffs of open source emulators.

Meaning not a single hour of engineering effort went into it.

You're better off 'pirating' - they pirate the open source software too, and they add nothing of significant value to 'em - fuck some pachinko yakuza mobsters.

Because it's meant to be a small portable device, it has an HDMI jack for a reason. 10+ inch bartops are an entirely different product with an entirely different purpose and audience.

You're the retard here user

>The fuck's wrong with membrane buttons? I don't get it. You want a full arcade experience on that toy?
it's quite an expensive toy and could be done better so why the fuck I gotta buy cheaply made expensive toy?

The Capcom one in particular is particularly shameful. Stealing an open-source emulator without the consent of the authors and profiting off of it for a fairly lackluster 16-game pack besides a couple standouts. And double the price of the competition at that, justifying it with online leaderboards (that will probably shut down in a couple years if that) and real arcade machine parts.

I spent about $80 on a living room FM2+ PC with a 450, and that handles absolutely everything up to PCSX2 maxed (i.e. no extreme AA/supersampling), along with being able to handle MadVR for movies in the process. If you have a PS1 Classic for free and have zero idea about emulators, great, but all these licensed ARM boxes are an absolute ripoff compared to a cheap little HTPC

capcom did contact an emulator dev.

Oh shit, could you link me to good resources on HTPC shopping? Because most of the ones I saw are super low end trash for $100+

Is it the only console that has membrane buttons? I'm trying to imagine how the feel like, i'm not sure which exactly has one, i only know my old phone and calculators to have those.

They did well enough that they've made like 4 other versions of it for Asia.

Also

>Try to design gate for the stick so that it has defined 8 way movement and is better to use
>It works
>The plastic bar they used for the stick underneath the piece you see on the outside is made of shit plastic and can't tolerate hitting the plastic gate without shredding itself.

So disappointing.

Nvidia Shield TV is a really damn good emulation machine.

Have fun playing MAME and any disc-based games, then. Enjoy stutters on PSX and complete inability to play anything else, including N64.

SNK's problem with these kinds of rereleases is the same as Nintendo starting fresh with Virtual Console every system
Great you've got Metal Slug 1 on it, who the fuck cares, literally everyone has access to it. Same as SMB, everyones played Super Mario Bros. by now, you can't keep acting like its some major milestone
Also plug and play is dying down again

not the only one. main issue is not even a membrane buttons but analogue stick.
neogeo known for microswitches, they could at least make cheap wannabe instead of just another analogue stick

What year do you think it is when you can't emulate mame and disc based games like psx well on a laptop?

>literally 20 bucks now

where. It's

They fucked up the resolution and the aspect ratio.

Normies wouldn't even notice, but retro collectors (their main audience) get their autism triggered by that.

>analoge stick
So it just plays completely like a normal smooth joystick, not the arcade clunky but precise stick?

They should just make a handheld device with all the old Neo Geo titles installed on it instead, I feel like they could make a comeback in the market now that Nintendo is focusing more on console hardware instead and Sony is diving out of it entirely.

You generally need to build them yourself for them to be cheap, and last-gen AMD APU setups tend to be the cheapest. I got the 450, a cheap case, an alright Biostar FM2+ board, and an A4-5300B that OC's to 3.9 on eBay, along with 4 gigs of cheap RAM and a heatsink on Ali. I got the 450 because I like forcing AA in PS1 games, and that's sorta the minimum for MadVR (but the onboard GPU is fine for LAV)

20$ just for 2 USB psx pads compatible for PC AND the console is a steal user. Don't be a retard for sakes of being yourself user.

You'll have to play roulette with your USB drives 'till you find one that doesn't need much power OR use a microSD adapter since they barely use energy OR just wait 'till they release their ongo thingy.

is already on sale user, see first reply for retardation.

git gud irl sales user, I got mine for 19,99. People bought so many, they instantly vanished 10 minutes after the announcement on my city.

All the neo geo games worth playing are already on switch.

yes. no one who ever played neogeo wants "normal" smooth joystick.
even shitty neo geo x managed to get that right.

Been out since at least Christmas, they made a Christmas special edition with extra games

now they are just being retards making a new ver every few months

>$30 for the Pi board
>$10 for a 64GB MicroSD
>$10 for a case
>however much for all your controllers
>however much time to get everything set up
The Pi has its applications but it's not this magical one-step machine that can give you guilt free orgasms in seconds. It's great when it's all set up but said setup is a kick in the dick, especially if you use different pads as RetroPie tends to drop saved input configs, plus it also can't cleanly switch between AV and HDMI

No you wouldn't that'd hike the price up. The same goes with any micro switches worth a shit. Just go comparing the price of any controller with micro switches that's of any sort of decent quality to those that don't have them.

I know niggers say they'd buy it and profess to the winds that they would, but they bitch about the price even now, but you and I know deep down that's a fucking lie and they'd still bitch about the price even if stuff like decent micro switches were even included. A decent sized display that isn't a piece of crap would increase the price too.
People want the premium type of shit that SNK would put out back in the day, and it was expensive as hell, but aren't willing to pay the price for it. Not then and not now. Hell there's people that even bitch when their arcade releases get ported to whatever console and complain they could just get them for free. Let's be real here, when it comes to SNK stuff people don't want to pay for shit.

The American version has an inferior library

Is that the actual excuse they made?

It's still fucking $60 everywhere I go

Attached: 1379033604326.jpg (480x640, 38K)

>It's on sale atm
>Where?
>idk look around lol
Yeah fuck you too

Didn't they pay some chinks who used an open source emulator for it? Literally couldn't even be arsed to make a neo geo emulator themselves. The whole thing stank of cheap cashgrab, and even worse the sound and audio are all off, which is the thing that autists who actually respect the neo geo would care about since it was such a graphical beast in its day.
Also only Japan, China, and Mexico care about the MVS.

>>$140
Where the fuck are you shopping?

He's right shit was a $60 rip-off or something.

You mean Nintendo Switch?
