3d is a shitty headache inducing gimmick at the cost of framerate/resolution that only works at a set distance of the screen.
There's no reason for it to even exist. How it fucking left the design docs and became a thing is beyond me.

The screens are exactly the same size

I've bought a 3DS 4 times just to get bored and sell it after a month or two

2DS XL is unironically superior. I have both because I'm jailbreaking my friend's. 3DS XL is heavier, larger, with the same screen size. Literally the only benefit is the terrible 3D effect. 2DS is smaller while having the same screen size, and significantly lighter

It feels very cheap though

It looks rad and has actual gameplay benefits in action and platformer titles where depth perception can matter. It also enhances the improves the menu heavy genres like RPGs by adding another visual dimension to the relatively visually stale and visually simplistic genre was valuable.

Don't OP. The easily chipped paint, the floppy hinges and the sheer weight after a good 15 minutes of play have made me regret my N3DSXL for a while.

Also that nice big screen? It pixelates the fuck out of every game. Sometimes I use my original 3ds for pretty games so it won't ruin the experience.

Idk I went from dsi to n2dsxl and it's very noticable. My dsi screen was tight as fuck but the n2dsxl wobble quite a bit. It's probably normal but it bothers me. I've heard n3dsxl doesnt wobble as much. Maybe its just not as noticable because the screen is heavier.

God the 3DS fucking sucked. So disappointing compared to the DS in near every way.

Dont get me wrong, the library is decent. But the device itself is absolutely miserable. Its ergonomically fucked from being too top heavy, the right analog nub is fucking stupid, the piss yellow LCDs are some of the worst I've seen, and the resolution is completely unsuited for 3D games

The DS was awesome because it was a 2D powerhouse in am era where 2D was dying. Games were crisp and gorgeous and cheap to develop which led to a huge quirky library. The 3DS abandoned that so it could be a shitty, less comfortable PSP (but with games)

I really want to know if even the PSP's screen were as bad as the 3DS'. I know model 1000's had ghosting issues but even then it could probably be excused as hardware for the time. Games looked a bit more vibrant there too.

I literally turned 3D off after like 5 minutes and never ever used it again and I'm pretty sure that's a majority of 3DS users which is why the 2DS even exists.

I love the 3DS but the 3D is fucking god awful.

2DS is better because you don't have to take the entire thing apart just to access the SD.

I wear glasses and it worked fine for me. Compared to the fucking statue you had to become for the original 3DS it was a revelation.

using 3d effectively increases the resolution you dumbfucks. your eyes aren't getting half of the screen resolution per eye, the screen is polarized in a special way so that you're actually getting twice the resolution overall for anything which the screens are rendering and 1x the resolution on the edges where only one screen displays anything.

let me further elaborate, you dumb niggers who never even used the feature. the screen itsself has twice the horizontal lines than the actual rendering resolution. that means that the image will actually look blurrier/shittier when not using 3d than when using 3d because it's being scaled by the display.

Ocarina of Time 3D also had great 3D, a lot of early 3DS games did it right the first try.

N3DSXL's aren't even sold in stores here anymore. Are 2DSXL's really that bad?

i checked in about 6 months ago, and 6 months before that to the same news. it's been dead for a while, hasn't it?

One thing that kinda bothered me about the 3DS is that each one of the screens have slightly different color displays. Even when it's turned off, the top screen is clearly darker than the bottom screen.
I always assumed this was related to how they were built, but I don't know if this difference is caused by the touch or by the 3D feature.
Did anyone notice if this also happens in the 2DS?

there's very little reason to bother having a "New"3DS/2DS. There are only a couple of New3DS exclusives

The 2DS exists because six years old children kept breaking the hinge of their 3DS. In the end broke ass college kids turned out to be they main market for it, which is why New2DS with the hinge exists.

Mostly 2.5 d games like dk ccountry returns, metroid samus returns, castlevania (though the game sucks), some other games have deep 3d like monster hunter 4, mario kart, mario 3d land and link between worlds actually have 3d based puzzles like in those 3d glasses books.

Been thinking of getting another N(x)DSXL after bricking my old one but I kind of want to get N2DSXL. How good is it for someone with somewhat big hands (they're pretty big but not monster big), and is it comfortable? If not I'll get the regular N3DSXL, might spend a little more though to get the asia exclusive metallic blue one

Fucking hate the 3DS in general but the N3DS was waaaaaaaaaay better than the N3DSXL, but absolutely nobody realised it.

Yeah, because of those swapping panels? They are pretty cool for modding.

For me it was size and form factor. The XLs were pointlessly large for the abysmal screen resolution, but the original 3DS was just too small. The N3DS had a good middle ground. The coloured buttons were nice and the panels were okay too, but in the end it's all a moot point because the little shitbox tore my wrists the fuck up over the years. Citra works well for basically everything that matters these days, so y'know.
