God I wish I knew
In highschool I used to have 6-10 friends that we all played shit like ARMA and Gmod and a bunch of other games together, but we all slowly drifted apart. Some of us were too busy and left, then the last of us realized we were all bitter and just stopped talking to each other. Now I sit alone and wish I had that again, but everyone seems so adverse to making friends online nowadays. It sucks.

Idk anymore user. I've only ever had irl friends as my vidya friends, and they've pretty much dried up. Only have likee 1-2 guys left, but I probably havent played with them in more than a year. These days I only play Halo for my mp, but I just dont have the will to put on my mic (not that I hear anyone talk anyways). I just play some BTB hoping I dont get rekt too bad, and I remember the good old days.

It's often hard to get set-up in a proper discord. I've been fortunate myself and met the right people or befriended the right people online. I think your issue is what you've already stated. Immature people or a server with no sense of control or actual substance to it. It's a hard fact when it comes to online Vidya in this day and age that most people just want to shitpost or fit in with strangers than making actual connections or friends.

I'm not very social so I don't have a huge sampling but lately I played some private server WoW which had an absolutely awful community, and Apex which was not as bad but still not good, plus it's hard to chum up with people in games where you actually play most of the time (unlike say wow that's 99% standing around). Am I playing the wrong games?

I just used Discord and found some random people. Was really shy at first but after a while I got used to it. Now even slowly VCing with one of my friends very slowly. He's a bit shy as well. Other than that all the other friends I have are more easy going and talkative

in my experience, coming from a guy who can literally make friends just by being in a server, the most important thing to do is to be reserved like fuck in the real world, so that personally of yours can just gush everywhere on line.
Whats happens for me is I start hyping up my teammates and bantering over the mic even if it's on team-chat only. While I do this I also address people by their character models and come up with nicknames on the fly, then run with it.

Then I commentate while I'm playing but always staying within the game, an example is when we get some good kills to take more land I say shit like "THIS IS IT GO GO GO DON'T THINK JUST SHOOT." for hectic games like TF2 this is how I play it.

When I play CSGO I pretend to be really try hard, like saying bogie and hostile eleminated and stuff, kinda like I'm in a character but not going too far with it.

Overall, be boisterous, be a little obnoxious, don't be rude to yourself or others, and say goofy shit.
