They're very near future technologies. PORTABLE holograms don't quite exist, but we have holograms that move, and Alibi's happen to hold completely still. Nanomachines are a bit further off but still getting traction and hers are VERY rudimentary. They simply carry a protein and burst into that protein when the trigger is activated.

But sci-fi bullshit, and "needing a counter" are different things.
Plenty of the early characters were just were non-realistic.

And lion is countered by mute now, finka is never played (and rook isn't countered either if you're going to complain about buffs), and alibi is countered by not being stupid or thatcher's emp grenades/twitch if you just really hate holograms.

Jackal or Lion are never going to really feasibly exist. (at least not pre-nerf lion) at least for a long time, and the nanobots/mozzie things aren't very likely for a long time too.

The way holograms work just don't make sense in a portable fashion.
Maybe its not too far in the future, but we're not talking a couple years here.

The shit they added was never too futuristic because the base game already was way in the future with Thatcher alone.

Handheld EMP is actually relatively reasonable, we do have portable EMP devices that you can even make by yourself at home. Though weak powered, that's a feasible research project that could be completed in probably 10 years or less.

Lion is just straight up magic with how it works.

And pinging on cameras isn't supposed to be in game canon, just a game play element.

The most unrealistic operator has to be Sledge

The breaching hammer is a real tool used in actual sieges but it is extremely unrealistic that he could smash a hole in a solid wooden wall in one hit.
