Gaming Laptop

Anyone here have a gaming laptop? I travel alot so I want one. Should I get one?

I have one, but I pretty much only use it for travel. Otherwise, I use a desktop.

I use an Acer Nitro 5. It runs pretty much anything I want it to and I haven't run into any problems. The only possible flaws I can think of are the display sucks ass (which is par for the course with laptops) and the lid material sucks and collects smears and fingerprints extremely easily. Otherwise it's simply more convenient than a laptop and just werks. People like to meme on "gaming laptops" but they really are catching up to desktop hardware.

>laptop
>gaming
Lololol

Also,

do you go to hotels? If you do you could build an ITX desktop small enough to fit in a gym bag with KB&M and a Xbox controller you plug it into the HDMI (most hotels have HD TVs now) boom a Gayming Desktop you can upgrade. Gaming laptops work good but parts come at a higher premium than the desktop and upgrades are usually minimal at best. You have to set up proper battery profilers or you will get like 3 hours of battery, they also tend to be heavy for a laptop.

I've got pic related, works great for whatever I throw at it (gaming, programming, game development, etc...). It's even small enough to easily take to my classes and the monthly LAN parties the CS dorm holds

I have one but it never leaves home

Honestly just buy a handheld. The Switch is way more comfortable to play on the go than having to set up a laptop.

Gaming and Laptop don't belong on the same sentence.

or just any laptop with a mobility gpu so you can actually carry it around and use it.

"gaming" laptops are fucking useless, unless you need a $1500 space heater.

$1500 space heater with 2 hours of battery life on power saver mode*

You just did tho...

alienware 17 r5
i basically use mine as a portable desktop

get the medium specs, power efficient ones. don't fall for the flagships. they're a trap. expensive traps.

The Switch isn't a PC
two completely different things

Yeah I say get one, it’ll never be as good as a desktop of comparable price, but they are getting closer to desktops and can do 1080p 144hz very well if you are willing to spend enough on it

Acer Apire here, pretty good laptop that meets my demands

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus S is godlike for a laptop. The GTX 1070ti model it on sale for $999 right now

I use this one too, even plays Yakuza Kiwami 2

Ah yes, gaming laptops. Those things that die in under two years because they run too damn hot for their own chassis.

I used to have a pretty nice desktop I built a few years ago. It went into the shitter a year ago and decided to try out a laptop.

They've definitely gotten so much better over the last hell, 5 years? Cheaper too. One thing is for sure I sure as fuck enjoy this laptop more than that big ass rig sitting on my desk.

I only use mine while traveling or sometimes St work. They aren't worth it otherwise and you need to Shell out a bunch of cash up front since you can't upgrade most laptops other than storage.

>i like playing video games a lot but i'm also away from home quite often
>here's a device that solves the problem easily
>guys should i buy it
gee i don't know maybe, maybe not

Where?

have had an HP omen 17 for several years now, has a 1070, 16gb ram, i7-7700. runs any game i throw at it, doesnt overheat at all like my last laptop, has a small profile compared to other high end laptops, and doesnt look like a fucking neon supercar. it also has accesible ram slot and an ethernet port. got for 300 dollars off for 1399$ CONS: only 3 usb ports, no CD drive, trackpad is almost in the way of where left hand rests on wsad. no ragrets. like i said mine is a few years old and idk about the new model.
