In case someone wants to actually do the math to validate or disprove this claim (MS is P2W) I have spent around 240 USD so far. I don't feel like my starting hands are more valuable than average. I've only witnesses a few turn 2/3 riichis and a few had f2p avatars. Soonest I've ever reached tempai in recent memory was turn 5.
I would advise against playing a game as volatile as Mahjong for recreation if you can't make peace with the fact that statistically speaking your average win rate shouldn't exceed 25%.
The very real emotional pain you volunteer to inflict on yourself when playing with people is the only thing giving the game significance. There are competitive games with little to no random elements. Those are probably better suited to your taste, no disrespect intended.
>There are competitive games with little to no random elements.
Are there competitive games you can play with only bots?
>have spent around 240 USD so far
Can you post your rolls?

I'll play something else then. In hell.
I take everything other than 4th place victory desu
>In case someone wants to actually do the math to validate or disprove this claim (MS is P2W)
I can't do that, but I can say that I'm at Adept** and I've NEVER seen anyone with a paid avatar winning a game. Top of the leaderboards are just cats and hags too

There isn't a roll log so all I can do is list the girls/decorations. I mostly did 10 summons at a time.

I hate it.
If it's mid-late game and a wind time has been discarded two times or less you can safely assume that someone is waiting for it.
Interesting, so it took you 15 tries to start getting them. Thanks.
just got absolutely decimated by the person sitting left of me in ranked... every tile i had to discard for tenpai was the one he was waiting on, he ron'd me to death before we even got to south... final score was me at -1500, him 51500 and the other two players still at 25k just watching me get raped
I've truly lost control of my life now. Thanks, chinese poker
If you truly want to see someone almost get 4th through sheer tsumos, look here mahjongsoul.game.yo-star.com
If he didn't deal-in to that mangan at East 4 I would have been dead last without dealing in to a single hand for an entire hanchan.
>It's a "Never get a fucking hand" round

This game is too complicated once you're out of Bronze, but the Bronze room doesn't reward you at all for playing. I just want to play a little bit and get a better feel without placing fourth.
I don't even deal into shit any more but I take forever to build my hands and then get points-drained slowly by other peoples tsumos and never winning a single hand myself.

am I the only who thinks the legend of koizumi gets kinda dull midways?
This is how I play.
Mahjong is the only thing keeping me sane now, due to the end-of-year crunching I'm doing to graduate from uni.
Is that when it switches MCs? I remember hearing that it gets worse around then.

If I'm at 0 elo can anything bad come from playing in bronze
The 2nd arc with the marine guy is complete shit. The untranslated chapters are pretty bad too. Just go read the Trump arc.
One last game before bed.
I feel like the hitler tournament drags on a lot as well
also, it needs more modern politics and less no-names
but you gotta win for it to count
You don't get penalized too severely until adept and higher when playing ranked.
>make two players ragequit with strong efficient hands
>the last player makes a comeback off their random discards
can I get negative elo though?
They're going to add more characters right? Why else would it be labeled sakura path
Finally managed to win a match.
No. When you reach adept you start at 300 points and need 600 points to reach adept 2, so that's when you have a baseline you can fall under.
At bronze you can't drop rank when getting to 2 or 3, and can't go below 0.
Game will close after it stops being flavor of the month. Sorry, user...
Tenhou has an algorithm it uses to generate walls on their website so I'm not sure how the claims about it being rigged can be taken seriously. Some googling reveals tards who say that it's rigged in generating hands, but hands are taken from the wall.
Not if you pay for gacha!
rip
The game has been out in China since 2018
The problem with these things is, that even in real life you'll feel like things might be rigged against you sometimes, but it's just how random things work sometimes. You 'should' be able to win 25% of the hands, but it can also happen that you can't win a single hand in three hanchan, even if that's unlikely.
Gotta account for the fact that you're the worst player on the table and lose without even realizing why.
I WANT TO PLAY
I WANT TO PLAY
I WANT TO PLAY
So what the fuck is this and why am I seeing so many threads about it? Is it mahjong with gacha shit and girls?
Probability doesn't work that way. If you were tossing a dice with 4 sides then it would work, but it doesn't work in a game with some many variables.
hagged.com
It's a mahjong client for english-only peasants.
the fuck do I do to call riichi?
Browser mahjong client with good ui and fully translated. There are some waifu shits in there too, I guess.
>the only thing giving the game significance
Pretty shitty game then.
If you spend any time around real gamblers, not magic sand meme gamblers, they all think like this. Only poker grinding autists and their ilk recognize that random variance can seem extremely unrandom at times and to have a large bankroll.
Don't open your hand, numbnuts.
Start a room.
Reach is only if you have a closed hand. It will tell you when you can reach.
...Just be one tile from finish your hand. The hand has to be closed, so don't be a chiiing pon'd nyagger.
When riiching, your hand can be basically anything, since riichi itself is a yaku. In other words, don't worry about collecting any dragon or your wind tiles when going for a riichi.
Empty sluts:

>red back tiles
>-146
Fuuuuck, why can't I resist kans that don't even help me?
yeah I quipped them once and forget to disable them, I like the default tiles more too.
You should be going for actual hands, not just a riichi by itself, unless you just happen to draw a mostly complete hand and want to tilt your opponents.
I just recently got into Silver and the players seem to be on a whole other level. I feel I'm out of my league quite honestly, even after I got through bronze in very few games after getting down the basics.
Even if I carefully lay out my hands for 3 sided waits with plenty open, shit never gets dropped for me, meanwhile I'm too stupid to realize what other people are going for except for "better not drop any tiles that haven't been dropped recently" late.
I also think I go for yaku that are sometimes hard to achieve and I have not won a Riichi a single time since I played in Silver, even if I get there super early.
Feels like I actually need to step back and read books on this game before I can make a real attempt at playing more of this.
The scoring seems so fucking complicated, how do people do it when they play in real life?
Majsoul Friends Room 79884(4-Player South): mahjongsoul.game.yo-star.com
Either memorization or they have a cheat sheet
Yeah, it's a lot harder when your opponents actually know basic tile efficiency. I've been floating in adept 1 for almost as long as I've been playing, and I think I'm only just now getting the hang of it.
Also watch out for calling station nyaggers that go for honitsu every fucking hand. That shit works in silver for some reason, but don't let it work on you.
can someone explain how the shop in this game works. There are over 5 currencies and almost no explanation for each item
Yes it does, mahjong is like poker with less variance. If all 4 players are good enough and now the basics of tile efficiency, it's possible that your hand will reach tenpai after someone else for 10 or 20 hands, even if everyone plays concealed. Calling etc. just fastens your hand, but it doesn't change the initial shanten for example.

>even after I got through bronze in very few games after getting down the basics.

why sometimes someone does a ron but instead of winning they lose points to another player?
It's just there to confuse the paypigs into spending more money.
chonbo
Adept soon tm
Do you ever try going for Ryu-ii-Sou?
Have you ever witnessed someone succeeding at it?
It looks so cool, but also so hard.
only thing I can think of is if you have no yaku or are in furiten when you try to Ron, though it's weird that it would let you even do that, a lot of online mahjong just doesn't let you Ron in the first place.
I look for it every now and then, but I usually have to just go for a flush.
I have seen it IRL table.
Tho later he told us that he started with 10 all green tiles so not that suprised.
I almost had it once but then I fucked it up myself
I almost got it, then a nyigger scored a 2000 point hand.
I occasionally float it for approximately two draws before inevitably settling for a normal hand.
I got it once, but only in 3p
That shit must have been hype.
Once I was playing with some douchebag fighter pilot, the fucker was pissing me off so much, so while we were shuffling the tiles (auto tables weren't invented yet), I made sure the wall near me was full of souzu tiles. Then when the dick sneezed and looked away, I just swapped out my hand with the wall and pushed his shit in with a tenhou ryuiisou. Shit was so cash.
>I almost got it, then a nyigger scored a 2000 point hand.
I love doing this when I smell somebody having a quite a spicy hand.
Tho only when I am 1st.
Just one tip: don't force yaku. Newbies often try to force toitoi or honitsu and fuck themselves up in the process.
Got him with the old tsubame gaeshi, huh?
Why must mahjong be so fucking hard?
After a day of work I do not have the mental clarity for it and a single drop of alcohol during the weekends spoil my focus.
I thought boardgames where supposed to be relaxing.
>played almost 100 games and still never went above baiman
just kill me nya
Could just play to get 2nd place. I find that a lot more relaxing than trying to win.
Could just not play. I find that a lot more relaxing.
Don't worry about winning. Play your hardest, do what you feel is right in that particular moment, do the best that you can personally do, and then no matter what you do in mahjong or in life, no matter how well you do, you've lived to the fullest.
As a loser
this is more a symptom of online gaming, irl mahjong is great to shoot shit over, and the fun hands happen more often when people are drunk/tired or just want to all play irrationally.
gg, gotta bail
Mahjong is designed with 1 player to win and 3 players to lose. It's an evil game.
i dont like this girl's voice she sounds retarded when calling chii
I will admit I often try to go for Sanshoku, Iipeikou or ittsuu.
Every time I go for just an open yakuhai my hand is not worth shit and the only other thing i ever attempted half successfully are Pinfus. I have no idea how to prioritize yakus while still getting decent scores.

Life is shitty.
I'll use the same tactic to win then, not play.
Where the pictures at?
First place wins big, second wins a little, third loses a little and fourth loses big.
You're not really supposed to get Sanbaiman or Yakuman. That stuff happens once in every 1000 hands or so.
That's what you get for not using the poop sock strats
Wait never mind, I'm an idiot.
Just count the han for each yaku and see how you can stack them to get 3-4.
For example, honitsu with a dragon and/or a dora is alright. It's a classic case of open hand.
I tried a few times, but every time I had a comeback, 4th play dealt into me and died. Maybe I shouldn't auto call win in situations where that might happen.
>t. Siddharta Gautama
I think you are right. Tried it briefly irl, and while I sure as hell didn't understand the rules back then I at least wasn't constantly worrying about optimization.
I'm stressed out trying to get 3rd, and mad when even that doesn't work.
>every time I had a comeback, 4th play dealt into me and died
That's what I call a comeback. You can't get 1st everytime, but you can avoid 4th.
room please nya I have enough time for exactly one game before I go make dinner
It's not too hard. Even going for a single one while staying concealed is good enough a lot of times. Open hands are good for ending the game fast and carrying dora home.
Well, I still ended up as 3rd in both cases today.
saw one a few days ago
Whenever I win a hand, I always say my yaku and points aloud before the scoring screen appears.
>Tanyao Dora Dora! Zanku!
I-I'm not the only one who do this, right? h-haha...
Alright let's try playing with closed tanyao for a change
Majsoul Friends Room 29000(4-Player South): mahjongsoul.game.yo-star.com
There is a rule in japanese mahjong parlors called Yakitori, and it forces you to pay considerable amount of points if you haven't won a single game during hanchan. It was made to prevent stubborn defensive play and 2nd place fishing by stalling.
Winning while having a clear mind is the best way to go.
>Yakitori

I wish I could stand other players. I like mahjong, but I can't play with anybody.
That was amazing, is like everyone is trying to win the race while they know there is a risk of crashing.
Yes, literally yakitori.

>you can see her swimsuit underneath
What a fucking lewd girl
That is what makes her best
Try calling less and go for South games for more points.
>your win rate shouldn't exceed 25%
This is wrong. Mahjong is not like Poker where other players have absolutely no influence over your hand, and the only interaction that happens is deciding how much the current round is worth through betting. In Mahjong your hands and the hands of your opponents are determined through player interaction, usually discarding, but even if you are keeping a closed hand and planning to win through tsumo you will still get influenced by watching what other people are discarding. So, although four players play at each match, to say your win rate should be 25% is to say it is purely down to luck, which is not nearly the case, and this is not like Poker where you can bullshit people into believing it's not about luck (because it sort of is but Poker is about making your losses worth less than the victories), in Mahjong skill actually matters, you can watch the gigantic gap even between bronze and silver players
Ah, i had south rounds in mind.
>Walking
Why bother censoring name when you have that flashy Title and character? I played against you yesterday, mate.
Time to play defense only, I guess.
There is literally no difference between bronze and silver players, at least not in soul. Silver players are probably actually worse.
It's just 8 rounds (not games) without getting ron'd.
Try Silver South
People actually know more yakus other than tanyao there, and I see way too many rounds end with most people in noten, which, although a sign of how bad they are in the game, at least shows they are actually trying to not brainlessly spam open tanyao
t. east-only adept 1 player

This game is such soul crushing to the point where I know when I will lose and there is nothing I can do about it. How the fuck do you actually win in this game without getting stuck with a mess of live tiles?
Fuck no. Bronze is like playing with random Yea Forumstards fucking around trying to get big dick hands.
In silver at least 2 players are in tenpai with 8k hands after like 5 discards almost every hand.
If you draw a triplet yourself, maybe.
If you have no triplets at all, better keep it closed or else you'll be stuck in do or die situation for a shit hand if someone riichi.
Chiitoitsu is the most fun hand to go for IMO.
I never expected Yea Forums would play Mahjong.
Discard tiles more likely to be live earlier (e.g. if you're 2 or 1-shanten you can have good waits while holding a completely safe tile, even if it's slightly less efficient).
Make fewer calls.
Defend earlier, in particular when you have a lead.
I just got a sphere of hope. What are they for?
Chiitoitsu is easy as fuck to go for but it's not worth many points at all
Sometimes it gives you easy points, but I've already gotten a chitoitsu hand worth, like, 1600 or 1700, which is absurdly low (even though chiitoitsus don't deserve more than 4k imo)
When you hit max hearts you can BOND a character which unlocks their alternate costume and last 3 emotes.
How do I get new cute characters without spending a dollar, or as little as possible?
I mostly want whoever has the best emotes.
Play Silver and get free chests, sell items from these chests for free draws. Be lucky as hell.
Last step is vital.
said alternate costumes
Well, it's cat.
So you already have her.
What possesses people to spend money on a gacha mahjong game that is almost certainly going to be dead within 3 months?
Cat has the best emote.
I'm usually a sucker for gachas, but not for this one cause you already have the best one (cat) from the start.
Not If I spend $10k on gacha every week!
As amusing as it was, I'm glad I'm out of Bronze hell.
>I mostly want whoever has the best emotes.
Cat actually has some of the best/most expressive emotes of the whole cast, p2w waifus included. Gamergurl has a couple with Nintendo switch being the best, discount Koromo probably has the best out of all the premium characters, Miko has like none, Autismo has the FBI emote and that's it.
what about the maid
>Most of them get worse outfits
How did they expect to earn money with this?
>nadeshiko dragging her jacket on the ground
What a stupid bitch
High IQ betting strats
>miko has none
you take that back
Maid has some good ones to be honest.
This is like her only good one, she has a smug tea-drinking one too but titty-neesan you get for free has one as well.
third emote is the only bad one, but I dislike how her top right and middle right ones are so similar
>with Nintendo switch being the best
what
The worst thing about this game is that there's no sense of progression in terms cosmetic because the grind is total slogfest and unrewarding. You're either a f2p or a whale. I don't think this game can survive through Mahjong alone.
Autism-chan is a huge improvement though I'm a footfag so there's a bias
Idol and Miko are upgrades, cat is cute but I'm not digging the gloves. Titty nee-san is kind of boring.
Nadeshiko's base art is better.
It's a pretty simple fix too. Make cosmetics easier to get, more emotes, more grills that are easier to get. It's been out since last year but they're pretty slow doing anything.
This is insanely jew. I'm surprised the game is from the same devs of Azur Lane.
I got my ass clapped gg's boys :

What does it mean to defend? These are my stats ate the moment in ranked.
I never even realized she was barefoot in that art
My love for her went up even more
Even Bonds only reward you after the 5 Heart where they give you EVERYTHING at once. the "rewards" at 2,3,4 Heart are totally shit.
They give you an illusion of progress (bond exp, gift donate), but it takes quite literally forever for you to get something out of it. This game is un-grind-able even for NEETs who play this game non-stop.
>This is insanely jew
Yes but the actual gameplay elements are all free, it's not like you need to spend money to climb ranked like Shin janryumon.
>surprised the game is from the same devs of Azur Lane
>mahjong soul is developed by CATFOOD STUDIO
>Azur Lane is developed by Shanghai Manjuu
????
You can click on that question mark next to play style to see what each stat means.
Defence is how often you deal into other peoples hands. (higher def means you deal less)
TSUMONYA~
Whoops. I meant publisher.
>I'm surprised the game is from the same devs of Azur Lane.
It's not? Yostar only publishes both games in the west.
>I see way too many rounds end with most people in noten, which, although a sign of how bad they are in the game
Kid's talk.
>Defence is how often you deal into other peoples hands.
What does that mean?
Why do you get a lot of Yakuman?
Majsoul Friends Room 26088(4-Player South): mahjongsoul.game.yo-star.com
Come and play you nyaggers.
Tired of waiting for a room
you have high defense if you rarely get ronned and low defense if it happens often.
dropping the tile they need to complete their hand
Isn't that kind of to be expected? It's not like a traditional gacha where the characters you collect represent your actual power. Everything is entirely cosmetic so if they make it f2p friendly then they undermine their only source of revenue.
Does dealing in after declaring riichi count/count the same as while not in riichi? Does getting double/triple ron'd affect you worse than a normal ron?
Cosmetics make people happy. and happy people will keep playing the game.
What does this box mean?
That's how the mahjong gods reward me for suffering through terrible losing streaks.
I agree with autismchan, but I would expect to have the same improvement for all of them if they want to make money.
Are you okay?
In double ron you pay both hands if you deal into it. I heard triple ron just cancels the round or something, but don't quote me on that.
Defence comes from the furiten rule. Because a player can not win if they have discarded any tile that completes their hand, you can safely discard any tile in their pond. You can always safely discard the same tile as the one just discarded by the player before you.
Tiles indicate dora tiles and are not available in current dealing of tiles.
The sticks are just extra points for different reasons like riichi and dealer not changing.
It's the dead wall. Ten tiles are put aside from the pool of tiles, and are stacked in 5x2 formation. The left tile from top is revealed, and that is the dora indicator. The next tile from the indicator in sequence is worth one han, giving you more points if you have them in your hand.
If someone declares a kan, more dora indicators are flipped (effects are cumulative if the dora indicator is the same). On the bottom side of the dead wall are ura dora indicators, which are checked if someone wins with a riichi.
Dora indicators, riichi bets currently in the middle (including previous drawn hands), honba (bonus hands)
No I know what a double ron is, I'm asking if dealing into one has twice the impact on your def score since you technically dealt into two hands.
Dora indicators indicating dora tiles. Dora tiles are worth more than normal tiles. The following number is the dora. You have 8m in your pic so 9m would be the dora. 9 would loop back to 1. E > S > W > N. White > Green > Red.
Eventually you'll get the hang of things and can see more options including yakuman. They're still gambles, but naturally come a lot easier if you know what you're doing.
Post what you are listening to while playing
>It's the dead wall. Ten tiles are put aside from the pool of tiles
>ten tiles
Fourteen tiles, user.
Presumably yes. I'm pretty sure it just tracks number of deal-ins for total number of rounds.
It's 14 tiles. The part you see in in mahjong are just the dora indicators. The other 4 are kan replacement tiles.
So what, if I have dora tiles in my winning hand, will I gain more points, is that how it works? Are they the tiles that shine strangely?
Yes
Yes
i game in silence to focus
Oh, right. Been forever since I played irl mahjong, so I just forget there's more than what the client shows.
Yes, for each dora tile in your hand you get additional 1000 points. The same goes for the red fives.
Yes, they're quite valuable.
>1000 points
They add one han user. Each han doubles your points.
Just goes to show don't let me count points in irl mahjong games.
MAGNET HOW COULD YOU
>that fucking annihilation
Okay, that actually made all that time worth it.
It's not that hard
>just get it naturally lol

poor magnet
It took me about 100 games....
I think this hand can go places
Okay then let's test it, maybe then you'll know what I mean.
Turn 2, what do you cut?
My thoughts: It's not gonna be be pinfu or tanyao, junchan is much more likely, so cut 6p first. Then see what I draw and cut 45s and whatever else won't fit well with junchan afterwards.
It was a very slow no open tanyo match where one of the players was being short played into oblivion and got the very last dealer seat and didn't stop winning because SOMEONE kept playnig into his hand over and over and over until THIS and put my comfortable 2nd place lead into 3rd
>going from 4th with 18000 points to 1st with 50000 in three rounds
magic sands
You've got yourself a red 5, so you should just focus on making a hand at all. Keep it closed, keep 45s and 6p, and riichi this. With some luck you might turn the sou into an itsu, but really just focus on filling up those sequences for the time being.
Although to be fair it's also a reasonable junchan, you can draw multiple tiles to get there. But having 1-2 doras already makes your hand valuable.
You're a fucking retard.
>nagashi mangan
tsuntsun you meme loving fuck
Itsu is slow and unreliable. And with a triplet and a pair of nines you're not gonna do a pinfu either. Concealed junchan/all terminals/suuankou makes sense as you have a very clear view and what you can still draw. Don't see a 1p? Likely in the wall.
And would you look at that, tenpai for a mangan while at the same time being in 1shanten for suuankou/sanankou.
gg guys, it was fun
Got cockblocked in the end though, screw you

what a waste, he wasn't that far behind on points either could've easily gotten second place with a chinitsu/honitsu
Wow. That's some good shit right here.
honestly i wasn't even going for that I just kept drawing dragons and discarding them
pretty fun game
East is just four rounds, for pon shitters.
South is eight, true mahjong.
East lasts 1 rotation
South lasts 2
Assuming no one negatives out first.
>Finally make it to Adept
>Half expect RON to flash across the screen and have it taken from me
I'm actually pretty proud of myself.
I don't like this feeling.

Hell begins now.
Prepare your sand
Is Riichi(nya) the only way to go if my hand is shit? Or should I try and cuck out someones better hand with something lame like an all simple?
I think I need to take a break from this game, the fact that it's so RNG heavy is really soul crushing and I can't help but constantly be cynical and pissed off while I play
I understand better players climb over time and I have been going up since I started but it's just so agonizing
All I've done for like a week straight is play mahjong and look up mahjong stuff
Tanyo is the way to go.
I can't tell who is complaining at who here
>All I've done for like a week straight is play mahjong and look up mahjong stuff
I sadly know that feel.
I find card games to be boring as hell, but there's something about mahjong.
it honestly depends on how many rounds you bet the game will last. If someone else has pon'd a white they could be in tanyao already. Ontop of that where is your position in the game? Are you in the dealer seat? Is it south or east round? How much are you up by? If your hand is terrible you might want to consider hording valuable tiles that you can't yaku with. If you have a furiten no yaku hand at the very end of the wall you can still potentially earn a good amount of points. By declaring riichi you bend over and spread your cheeks to grab some dropped change.
GG's taking a break.
ME. I WAS IN 2ND. I WAS SO FAR AHEAD IN SECOND AND THE GUY IN LAST KEPT THROWING OUT UNSAFE TILES TO FUCK WITH ME. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>chinitsu toitoi sankantsu rinshan dora 12
east (east only = tonpuusen) = 4 rounds
south (east+south = hanchan) = 8 rounds
if dealer wins or gets tenpai, the round is played again until it doesn't happen
if someone goes negative, the game ends
play with v desu
tenpai at draw* forgot to add
It got it on Tenhou once, but every single call was fed by a disconnected player so I don't really feel like it counted
The reason it's so rare is because after two calls everyone with half a brain will betaori and stop dropping green tiles
Post your proudest nyagger moment.
Needless to say he ragequit
>only 263 players
jesus christ is mahjong really that unpopular?
w-what did I just do
I thought gambling was illegal all across the board in Japan and they had to use middleman prizes to "gamble" with things like pachislots and pachinko, how does it work with mahjong?
It's English server.
That’s why it’s a good wait though especially for something like chiitoitsu. You can count on it being an extremely dead tile for others
What do you think you bet with in mahjong?
>Draw
Adding guns to appeal to the Western audience is just silly
Last night it was like 800 in the east room and 400 in the south room.
That's for the lowest possible ranks.
8s obviously
>Only 13 in south
Man, bronze really is just chaos.
You can issue a redraw if you have 9 or different more terminals and honors on your first turn.
Somehow I rarely get these three-tile waits. Even lucksacked an ura dora in there.
Everyone who got hooked are already in Silver I guess.
which you shouldn't do because I mean come on outside hands.
my dude you're close to 13 orphans, just go big or go home
Same thing, you exchange your money for some tickets at your mahjong parlor.
you threw away your kokushi musou baka
After like 30 games altogether I got my very first 4th place and I am steaming, fuming, I have no idea how to deal with this.
I don't know mang, that's why I'm asking
With pachinko you just buy prizes like the stupid ticket gambling for kids in the west and then outside there will be someone outside you can sell the prizes back to, I can't really picture how that would work with a buy-in table game unless you pay to play and also win stupid trinkets you also go sell outside
It's too late I already drew and I don't know what 13 orphan is
>-146
That seems too harsh
I'm stuck in bronze, bois
>Three concealed triplets
>Is not a closed Yaku
nyani?
Which characters love what gifts?
wait until you hit silver
Need four
I like mahjong, but I'm too much of a brainlet to play it
The triplets themselves have to be concealed. That means you can have three concealed triplets, call a chi or something for your fourth meld so your hand is open, and still cash in on the three concealed triplets yaku. You can also have a closed hand but not get it if your ron tile completes one of the three triplets, since it's not "concealed" that way.
It's a little confusing because that one looks as the fu calculation rules to check which triplets are concealed.
Only the triplets have to be concealed. It's a little tricky, especially since if you ron on a pair, it's not considered concealed, even if your hand is concealed. So if you have 3 concealed triplets and two pairs in tenpai, a ron will still just be 3 concealed triplets. You have to win with tsumo for it to be suuankou.
would it be 12h ago, it would be at ~1200/300 east/south for bronze.
this timezone is much less populated.
you use sticks. In mahjong you keep points using tiny sticks kinda like the riichi sticks. Parlors will buy and sell sticks for you to play which you can exchange for prizes.
>playing a game with Yea Forums
>realize they actually took my cat edit seriously
fucking hell guys. you won't win if your 10k behind and all your hands are based around a single wind or dragon triplet.
It only takes a few hours to learn the basics
I know the basics, but I get nervous when it comes to learning hands and general strategy
Majsoul Friends Room 40987(4-Player South): mahjongsoul.game.yo-star.com
5+20s bring your A game 2/4
Just play, there's literally no stakes to learning the game in bronze matches. By the time you hit silver you'll have a decent idea on how to win games
Adopt an occult playstyle, it will wear off the longer you wait and settle into smart but mediocre play.
Sounds hard to pull off, but I guess if I can call the chi it might work. Sounds like something I'd only pull off if I basically got at least 2 tripplets at my starting hand?
i actually had an easier time climbing on tenhou
am i just not lesbian enough?
>Same guy Tsumos every single turn
They are lying
It's easier to play a proper mahjong than chaos majsoul. but tenhou is very boring and makes me sleepy.
need 1 more, join for a good time
I've been ignoring it, but what the hell is kan and should I do it?
Sorry to ask a stupid question, I am trying to learn and understand the game.
In the pic related, if I got 9 bamboo in the top, and 8 bamboo in the bottom, would both combinations be considered "Outside Hand - Chanta"?
I'll give it a try once more guys, thanks. Wish me luck.
keep ignoring it
adds a new dora indicator and you pick up a new tile from the dead wall
It's all terminals and honors with a pair of any of them. If you get it, that's big points for you.
in older forms of mahjong that used pure points and doubles for scoring, it gave you a lot of points but in riichi with fu not doing so much and not doing anything after 5 han, it's mostly just to add another dora indicator and get an extra chance to draw what you need. You should generally avoid it unless it's a concealed kan and you're in riichi or about to riichi and feel pretty confident that you're going to win the hand. You should basically never take a kan when you hold three of a tile and someone discards the fourth, only if it's dora and you're going to open the hand anyways.
Yes they would, but a chanta built with honors isn't worth shit.
WHAT A GAME
NO 2ND WAS MINE
Why did I lose more? It was a Tsumo and I wasn't in riichi.
I kept getting 3-4 doras in my hand but got blocked every time
dealer seat
dealer pays double on a tsumo
dealer loses more
Dealer wins and pays 1.5x, Including tsumos.
What if I manage to draw all 4 triplets myself and then anything, declare Richii, and can I ron the last tile (so it matches the "anything" pair) and get the 4 triplets Yaku?
Dealer doesn't pay more for dealing in though. Dealer gains more on winning with both ron and tsumo, and only pays more on losing to a tsumo.
Well that was rough. Sorry for all the small hands but sometime you gotta make lemonades out of lemons.
If you're sitting on three triplets and two pairs and you stay closed, if you draw your winning tile you have the four concealed triplets yakuman and if you ron it you just get the three concealed triplets.
Is there even a 3 triplets Yaku? I am not seeing it on the chart frequently posted in these threads
outside hand is the most cursed yaku. i've seen more 13 orphans than that shit
It's in there, yeah. It's just in the open section
>about to comeback on final round with massive dong double dragon + prevailing wind concealed tripple
>4th player rons on a fucking seat win, gets 2000 points and still ends up 4th
FUCK YOU SLUT CAT
watch and learn, user
Thanks a lot. So going by what you said, if I ron the last tile for the three concealed triplets Yaku, it won't count as concealed and I wont get Yaku at all?
And if I go for 4 triplets and ron, I will get 3 triplets Yaku instead, correct?
That hurt.
I was in need of fast points to secure my second place, user
Well, that was a trip straight to shadow realm.
>not going for hell-waits only
never gonna make it
I think I should stop playing. I can't even beat people in novice 2 with how they constantly get 12000 to 22000 hands on me and even in playing friend matches on here. I have probably a .2 win ratio, and by that I mean gaining any points.
I guess the lesson is never deal in a dora
I should never doubt Mahjong's ability to just completely fuck my ass through no fault of my own. I've come fourth 5 times in a row now and I jus want to fucking end it
Yeah. The key difference here is concealed vs closed. Your hand as a whole is either closed or open, but a triplet can either be concealed or not and finishing a triplet with ron counts it as not concealed. The closed and open yaku sections just look at your hand being closed/open, but some parts of the yaku will look at the specific triplets. Closed vs concealed.
>you will never reach expert
One was already discarded so I thought it was safe enough, but live and learn.
>through no fault of my own.
l2betaori
Thanks a lot. That makes going for these two Yakus much less interesting. I doubt I will ever draw 3 triplets myself, yet alone 4.
how do I get the currency needed to summon waifus?
>waiting for tiles noone is using
>they just never get played
>get ronned off the dumbest shit

To get out of Bronze, all you need to do is practicing your tile efficiency, really. nothing more.

>lost every game in the past 3 hours
I just want to be bronze
I am in a similar fucking situation. Whenever I get some points, I lose them a game later. There's no middle ground for me, I am either first, or the last. I zero-sum after 5 hours of playing. I end up where I started.
where the fuck are my numbers on the tiles what is this artificial difficulty bullshit
I deranked from adept 3 once and now I'm back here again. I'll reach expert soon enough.
>numbers on tile
Isn't that the default option in majsoul?
Wait, can you actually derank in this game?
Like if I finally get to silver, I can fucking delevel to bronze and be unable to play silver room games?
did you even check what he was replying to?

I logged out of the game and when I press the log in button again it asks for email and verification code again, but the verification is expired and there's no button to send another one. What the fuck do I do?
nevermind, I found the button, but do I really need a verification code every time I want to log in?
but you can just send another verification
Yes, japsecurity at its finest
Yup.
Big dick move.
idk about you but my browser keeps me logged in
That's because you never logged out.
Is east always a yaku wind because that's the dealer? or is a yaku wind only your seat
How do you even log out?
just click the remember me
The waifu with the glasses just succumbing to alcoholism.
From the main menu, click Settings on the top right, and there's a log out button on the bottom left of the Settings screen.
go to settings. clicking links in these threads usually logs me out. don't know why desu.
Game is stuck loading before the login screen, Ctrl+F5 didn't work, any idea?
I feel like this game is too generous with double riichis. Been getting it 3 times now and it's only been less than a month.
fuck you
try a different browser like firefox.
A triplet of winds count as a yaku if it's the round wind (east in the east round, south in the south round) or your seat wind. If your seat wind is the round wind (e.g. you're the dealer in the east round), the triplet is worth two han.
Nope, they all crash after I click the google/facebook/twitter options to log in (the screen freezes)
maybe just try an email log in

You have to know when to be greedy, and when to not be.
Please review my thought: Boiling defense down to not dealing into other people's hands is retarded, sometimes in order to defend yourself you have to do exactly that
How do you fullscreen in mobile browser?
>double riichi
>someone actually fucking kan'd anyway
>skipping tanyao toitoi dora 3 12k points
el retardo
my bad, it's not tanyao, but still el retardo.
Lucky you. Also, that's not Ryanpeikou
Why couldn't you just put me down quickly like in that other game? Why am I suffering
it's not tanyao though
Most stats are retarded.
ATK as average points won in the last 100 games is fine.
DEF as deal-in rate? Fuck no, sometimes you need to deal into the hand of a small enemy in order to defend yourself from a big dick hand being built by another one. If I were the developers I would rename this stat to "CLAIRVOYANCE", meaning the ability to predict your opponent's wait and not play into it.
SPD as win rate? Absolutely retarded. The win rate should be SKILL. That's what the developers should have called it.
And LUK as Dora usage rate? Extremely retarded too. There is no luck involved in using a fucking dora. They should rename this to IQ.

Remind me again what's wrong with American Mahjong? Is there a Riichi American Mahjong organization?
Truly my greatest ally.
Chiitoitsu, my bad.
Is it easier to try and rank up when China's online? I'm more interested in south rooms now and those are dead at lower ranks without the red tide.
I took one look at the rules of mahjong in yakuza 0 and I've been too afraid to try to learn how to play.
These threads kinda make me want to learn
You have no idea how fast my heart was beating, that's my first yakuman against a player, not CPU.
There's a world cup for Riichi Mahjong every few years
and of course Japan dominated the competition.
to be fair I also needed to ron the gachafag on the left. The guy on the right would have ended the game right here and there if I'd ron him. Could be wrong but I'd have barely still ended up in 2nd place. My hunch was right though so I can't feel too bad, but yeah 2nd place's better than 4th place.
Muh kazoe yakuman

>no runs, only triplets and kans except they also go up to 5s and 6s because jokers
The real question is what isn't wrong with American """mah-jongg"""
>Is there a Riichi American Mahjong organization?
WRC kinda
There's a pretty big scene in America though, lots of clubs and organizations

The difference between the ones who see and those who don't
Idk about iPhones but on android you can save a website to your home screen from the chrome browser and it ends up looking like an app icon. Now when I open the game from the app icon it shows it almost full screen (I still have my back/home/recent bar on the right though)
there's 3 tiles left, doesn't it make more sense to not deal in
especially with two of the 4s on the table
you ever just say fuck it?
Good games, everyone.
I didn't go into negative so I'll say that's a win by my standards, ggs
Hell wait best wait
right kot dealt into it!
Good games fellas
Yeah, that game sure dragged out, but you were somehow still in there with 200 points.
I have a dual-wait on tiles that have 3 and 4 left and lose to a hell wait all the god damn time.
>pratice vs easy AI

That's a big fucking mistake playa
Chess master who meets someone who calls himself competetive checkers player must feel the same way as I feel right now.
God fucking help me my hands are always good but I havent been able to ron
Daily reminder
oy vey, what a game
Upgrade your tenpai hands to better waits (you don't need to call riichi right away, you know), make hands that you can tsumo or become sneaky devil and do jigoku tanki shenanigans
That's the thing. I've been trying to get the fuck out of bronze but trying to keep my hand closed for better hands keeps fucking me over. Eve now my call rate is fucking 75% but I still cant complete my hands before other people do. The people I play with have some kind of magical ability to riichi in the first 5 turns.
once you're close to level up just spam tanyaos and pinfus and avoid dealing in as best you can
75% is too high. Play south games, the idea behind keeping your hand closed is you'll have at least 1 had do enough damage to knock someone into third place if you're patient.
It's still not going to be too much above 25% though. The point was less about luck and more about it being a four player game.
gg to the guys I've played with (and sorry for my insane luck during east)
One thing I hate about mahjong souls is how much you lose when you lose, considering the entry fee of 700 coppers for south silver room, it takes like 3 wins to get back what you lost in a single one and I think that's a bit too harsh.
get luckier next time.
no, really.
that's the only way to WIN a hand, regardless how shit/good your waits are.
in Gold is even more overkill.
I think people, espsecially newbies will start quitting the game when they run out of coppers, especially those who didn't get the 50k early register bonus.
Copper isn't worth anything anyway. You can get a single green gift at 15k, and by the time you hit 15k copper you've already had like 3-4 chests.
Well, don't think that after you'll become more experienced magically good hands will come to you every game. Skill in mahjong doesn't manifest in winning every game - it manifests in NOT LOSING. Even the most talented and intelligent player will stumble upon hanchans with completely shit hands and won't be able to win no matter what, but at least he won't get zeroed.
Statistics are simple - you are supposed to win only 25% of games. Tipping it even slightly upwards is already a huge indicator of skill.
And one more thing - I'd tell you to keep your hands closed, but sadly hanchan lobby is non-existent in bronze, so you just need to brute force your way to silver, only to become crushed by people who know what they are doing.
maybe he's thinking about game win rate, when you're talking about hand wind rate?
I mostly play friendlies with pals, and my hand win rate is around 30% while my game win rate is well over 50 (but there's just a huge gap in game experience, it's not like I'm a great player).
But either way, I agree that provided you play with people not waaaay out of your league, both rates should hover around 25% and not reach 90 or 10%.
at silver+ you can claim free coppers daily when you dip below a certain level
It's fucking ai easy i swear. Actually no, AI is much faster and doesn't waste 5 second every turn. TIANANMEN FUCKING POOH
AI = systematical, rational
Humans = emotional, irrational
You're clearly playing with people worse than you though. The average match win-rate is by definition 25%. Most people playing this are going to be playing ranked too so, sooner or later, they'll level out to roughly where they belong skill-wise and their match win rate will drop to around 25%
gift worth nothing. the exp required to reach 5 bonds is too much for f2p users.
At least i got large diamond from bots. Hope to never see them again.
any tips for how you got to be that good? outside of practice/just playing of course, were there any outstanding things beginners might miss?
Interesting profile there. I wouldn't expect an average rank of 2.3 with such a small difference in deal-in and win rates, but the very high average score makes up for it I guess.
Are you just very good at "go big or go home" or do you deal-in cheap hands on purpose as well ?
>tfw start getting overwhelmed with possibilities when already formed suits start getting pairs in my hand and have only 5 seconds to decide whether to change waits or not depending on the flow of the game and what the other players discard
AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
In general, sequences > pairs
You get better waits with sequences and you always have a chance at pinfu.
Did you grow up in China or in the west? Because for ABCs not knowing those games isn't very uncommon.
