Much to do with the fact that its a rather good game. Most people look at the OMG SEXY ANDROID and think its bad. THat is all just window dressing. But the combat is rather good. And the story has asks many question on what it means to be human. As you can see with the robots tht are created to KILL humans try to imitate them... in so many ways that you feel sorry for them. Look up the clip of the litle robot crying over big brother. Route B opening. It made me rather sad to see the enemy o fthe game. Basicly show human emotions. The litle robot doesnt know that "big brother" is dead and wont wake up. But it keeps thinking that big brother will wake up by shaking him. then tries to get some oil to feed him... stumbling multiple times if you do it wrong. Something that must have hapened to primordial man when one of their died for the first time. Wondering. Why arent they moving. Because they didnt get the concept of death.

I know some like to use the "babby's first _____" argument but that's just how people are. They don't bother delving deep into other genres/mediums/etc. and will gladly latch onto what rises to the surface. Which is what Automata did.
It's a Yoko Taro that finally got lots of exposure. Part of it being published by Square Enix. Another with having Platinum doing the combat. This type of story being a first for many got it recommendations through reviewers, streamers, etc.
There was just lots of people talking about it. With how many people play games these days, that can lead to lots of exposure.

it had a great story, great OST, but the overall world was pretty bland (as in the different locations you could visit were limited to 4 or 5).

The enemy design was very lazy; they reused the same few models with different skins and, to top it off, all the models had very similar movesets. This resulted in having the gameplay get old fast, you just had to evade spam and mash buttons to deal with most enemies, even bosses. And it was very easy to get an overleveled character just by doing the side quests, which meant the gameplay got even more boring as you were oneshotting most of the enemies even on hard mode,

Overall it was a good game with glaring problems. Not Top 100 material at all, unless you consider the story really high in your list when evaluating games.

i'm still amazed when i remember that the guy who made fucking Drakengard is now a respected auteur and can make any game he wants to. and i thought Drakengard 3 was the last I'd see of the guy.

Man, I beat this whole game, even did most of the sidequests but it felt just average after hearing everyone rave on about it, the combat feels samey after a while and it's kinda easy, plus the 9S part is 80% the same route until like the very end.
Story was meh, had it's moments but I didn't really connect with most of the cast. I had never played any of Taro's other games prior to this but I didn't really have enough fun to want to look at playing them. I dunno, game seems fine, I just don't know what everyone sees in it.

Because it's "perfect", by which I mean it has exactly ONE bug (2b's skirt freaks out a little if you sit down in the resistance camp's music area) and does everything it tries to do which involves conveying fairly complex themes, narratives, while telling a satisfying and engaging story that also has really fun gameplay.

The only detraction anyone might have is the "you have to play through it three times" thing, but the way it mitigates the problems with that with the hacking system and how it uses the time it takes up doing that to substantially expand the story of the first play through rather than simply rehash it, and does it all in a way that could only work BY replaying it means that that's not even a real detraction.

I have bought automata just 2 days ago, is awesome, really good design,concepts, characters, funny fighting sistem, godlike OSTs etc...
The only flawes i found is that you can't destroy or damage the enviroment, but this is the only flawes i found yet.

Why the fuck didn't Devola/Popola/Anyone involved with Project Gestalt just fucking tell Nier that he's the shell awaiting the return of his soul? He retains his paternal instincts and carves a path of blood just to reunite with his child, killing the Original Gestalt in the process, dooming the remaining Gestalts to relapse and killing humanity, and even better is that he becomes erased from all memory to save Kaine, meaning the person who killed all of humanity is lost to memory and time. If anyone in that 1312 year timespan just told him what was up, mankind would have slowly but surely returned.
I'm also certain I've discovered a plothole: how did Yohna contract the Black Scrawl in the prologue of the game, when the lore clearly dictates that the Scrawl affects Replicants whose Gestalts have relapsed. This would suggest that Yohna in 2049 was already a Replicant which makes no sense.

You have to replay the game a second time once you finish the first time to unlock the final ""chapter". A lot of journalists who complained about the scenario not making much sense simply didn't finish the game.

The Kaine/Emil themes get replayed way too much, Aerie music was a bit too bombastic for such a lifeless area, the field theme is okay-ish, really the only song that stood out without being overkilled imo was the Junk Heap dungeon music.

That said the gameplay still works for what it set out to do, be a bit casual for rpg fans to enjoy while also bringing over characteristics of the typical platinum game.

It's fun, the gameplay's great without devolving into turboautistic tryhard complexity.
There's enough customisation to keep it diverse but you don't need to bother with it if you don't wanna.
It looks good without going for perfect realism so it avoids the uncanny effect and make for real nice characters.
The story's a nice change from angry guys killing other angry guys or monsters, it pulls at your heartstrings and goes just deep enough to not feel shallow without becomign pretentious.
The OST is great and really adds to the zones, making them much more memorable.
The map isn't too big and empty so end up seeing pretty much all of it without getting bored.
The hacking sections were nice minigames with catchy tunes.
The multiple characters keep it fresh and add a somewhat unique approach to the story telling.

All in all, it's a game you can easily enjoy if you stop being Yea Forums and allow yourself to enjoy games.

Bonus: the intro stage doesn't have checkpoints so you can filter off retards easily.
