My favorite additions are when they bring back characters from forgotten or otherwise niche series. Game and Watch, Duck Hunt, ROB, Shulk, Ice Climbers, Ness, etc. Fire Emblem was originally in this category, but not any character post-Ike in Brawl desu.

Got an honest question for you guys. If not Banjo and Kazooie, who, if anyone, would honestly be able to fill the role of bombshell reveal that Brawl, 4 base game, 4's DLC cycle, and Ultimate's base game all had?
Banjo has the combined factors of:

>Overwhelming fan demand like K. Rool, Ridley, and Sonic had
>Their inclusion would bring a substantial piece of Nintendo history back into the limelight after difficulties like with Megaman
Banjo hits every single note that the previous bombshell reveals have while also having the benefit of being the main character of the last major release for a Nintendo console not yet featured in the Smash Brothers series (unless you count Golf which isn't really an IP and doesn't have a character).
And before you say it, "What about [Insert big name series here] because it's big" doesn't necessarily make it a bombshell. Ryu was welcome by the fans, but wasn't seen as a bombshell addition while the smaller Megaman series was. And K. Rool and Ridley were seen as bombshells despite being significantly nicher than many additions to the series.
And if you really think that Nintendo is going to pass up the marketing potential of having an addition that blows fans minds like Sonic and Cloud tied to the other members of the fighter pass you're delusional. They're going to have at least one newcomer who's addition has more weight going for it than just "hey looks its [character] from [series]!"

Both were great inclusions, but back during the Smash 4 days neither one was considered a potential inclusion that would be shocking before their respective reveals. Ryu may have had more of an impact at least, but they were casually datamined two months before their reveal, ruining the surprise. Even if that didn't happen, they still wouldn't have beaten Mega Man or Cloud's reveal. Pac-Man was just highly expected going into E3 2014.

Yeah, as hard as it would be to work with Steve’s typical stiff movement, I feel it would be better to embrace it than reduce it in an attempt to make him fit in more. Just look at this banner art mock-up for example. His limbs and face look super off since they were made to be more rotund and flexible. They also don’t mesh well with the ground block he’s sitting on, which would be a notable factor when such blocks would likely be a major part of his moveset as a fighter.
