How can a game with so little content sell so well? Even Super Mario Kart on SNES had more tracks and just as many playable characters

3d modeling was expensive in both costs and time during the era

My brother, my cousins and me played battle mode over 100 hours.

MK64 > MKWii > MK8 > MKDD > MKDS > MKSC > SMK > MK7

Ìt was 3D. That was all that mattered back then. You had to be there at the time to understand just how mind blowing that was.

Shit game only liked because of nostalgia, DKR and CTR are much better than this Shit

The only worse possible opinion would be putting Double Dash first.

It looked gorgeous at the time. It had fewer tracks than the SNES game, but each one was original; no more Bowser Castle #12. The difference in the drivers was more obvious. It had Wario.

DKR\CTR are overcomplex messes. I just wanted to have fun and do races, not play some kind of retarded collectathon. Also, I don't really remember much about CTR since I played it a million years ago, but I recently replayed DKR and the game has no rubberbanding, making every single race a complete joke as soon as you get decent at the game. It's just no fun to play. MK64 on the other hand is simple, fun and infinitely replayable.

For some reason other Kart games of it's era can't get items to work

The battle is still god teir. Still the best battle mode and it's so bare bones with only 4 course and only 3 that anyone actually likes

one of the best mario kart songs as well

>Music would always cut out in 3 or 4 player

Life was just simpler back then.

Bump

Quality > Quantity

DD and 64 are tied for first.

All 3 of those games are good you faggot.

>defending rubberbanding

I was replaying that last night and was EXCITED when I noticed there was no rubberband bullshit. It makes the game feel more skill-based instead of pure luck.

Attached: i never unlocked TT.jpg (1170x658, 103K)

dkr framerate was absolute shit in multiplayer

4 player game.

soulless ripoffs are shit by default

Mario Kart 64 was always a massive disappointment to me since I was used to DAYTONA that had actual 3D Models not pseudo 2D bullshit.

youtube.com/watch?v=0EkAVmBVmVE

Punch in the cheat code TIMETOLOSE if you want rubberbanding in DKR

Will they ever be topped? Although CTR Remaster is shaping up to be good enough to replace the original.

Because it was cool finally getting a Mario Kart game in 3D and still holds up alright

soul

Since we're talking about karting games in general here, I gotta ask, did anyone else really enjoy ModNation Racers? Something about the game just felt right to me and creating shit to race with was really fun.

I did. Was hella fun. But the track editor was kinda limited, if you used it as intended it was really difficult to make interesting, but I guess it's the same problem for all games with level editors, Mario maker is suffering from the same shit with every interesting level being bloated hell.
Modnation driving and items were great, but the controls were too floaty imo.

Attached: ModNation™ Racers_35.jpg (720x576, 88K)

My guess is something along with
>recognizable brand
>4 player option when it wasn't the norm
>gameplay so simple even your mother could enjoy it
>faulty track design allowed anyone to feel special discovering "secrets"
>same faulty track design allowed a speedrun community to grow
My personal favorite is the music.
Snowboard Kids 2 shits on all of them, and Mario Kart 8 even shits even more on them.

Those are all valid points, but damn, I still enjoyed the game enough to 100% it multiple times.
Honestly, I think I'm just a huge sucker for games with high levels of easily accessible customization.

Shit yeah, despite its limitations. Half the fun was dicking around to see what retarded creations people made, but it was also a satisfying racing game on top of that.

Sorry sweaty, but SEGA made the best racing games

DD is shit compared to anything after it. Putting F-Zero GX in the same category means you could add Burnout 3 and WipeOut HD which are better than the echo camber shit that are SART and CTR.

Yes. What also like is that the AI is programmed so well that you don't need real people to have challenge on your tracks (as long as there's is no walls in the middle of the road)
I could go back to this game any time I want, make a track and play on it for hours even with the online being dead, which is a rare quality for video games nowaday

Attached: ModNation™ Racers_32.jpg (720x576, 113K)

I'm glad my opinions arent objectively incorrect like yours

well, you'll fit in here and reddit

DKR sucks, you only like it because mom got you that instead of MK

Wii is fucking horrible from the handling to the tracks. Other than that I don't disagree.

Nothing beats F-Zero X and GX, Absolutely nothing

F-Zero is not a kart racing game you dingus.

Its just faster karts

Multiplayer works in mysterious ways. That said, I think this game has aged like milk personally and I grew up with it.

Its an arcade racer like the rest of the games I listed you DOUBLE NIGGER

I had it on PSP, was great but a little cringy. Loved seeing what characters people made online. If only it was on PC as well.

I didn't mean DD is shit, it's just that it looks like shit compared to every single MK put out after it. Wii might have it flaws, but the amount of options and actual impact they have is hardly matched in any mascot racing game.
I still like DD, but that guy unironically repeats anything he sees online.

Who was your main?

Bowser Jr/Red Troopa for me

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 173K)

So, what kind of items you can use in f-zero?

guys, i played double dash for the first time in like 10 years ago yesterday and I was fucking horrendous at the 150cc 16 race grand prix, i kept finishing 4th and 5th, and only twice 1st

I used to be fucking incredible at that game, am i slowly losing my gamer skillz?

Attached: 3.jpg (474x492, 56K)

H-had the exact same mains, did you use the green koopa car too ?

Since when are items required to be considered an arcade racer?

Bowser + Yoshi or Bowser + Koopas, in whatever Bowser's default car was.

Honestly i can't remember what kart I used, whichever had the best stats.

Red troopa was unbelievably broken in this game and I can't remember a game in tournament mode where I didn't use him

Baby Luigi and Bowser Jr. are my tryhard picks.
Birdo and Toad are my niggas

played both, the only real competitor out of the two is CTR, and thats just barely

DKR sucked ass

It's probably the easiest MK after 64. Just snake your way through the tracks, blue shell even a factor here even though it was actually implemented here.
Bowser, Bowser Jr and the default Bowser track.

Paratroopa/King Boo chad reporting in

i'm talking about kart racers. I never mentioned arcade term. You can also put a need for speed series in that picture, since it's also an arcade racer. But it's not even close to crash racing, mario cart, or sonic kart games.

>Mario Kart 64 character models
>"3d modeling"

You gotta be shitting me.

its called "gettin rusty"

happens to all of us

Try the boss battles again, shit nugget.

Paratrooper Bowser Jr in the fucking Barrel Train was my jam

weren't they 3D modeled and then rendered?

yes.

wario DK

Toad/Toadette in Toad's car always

Everytime I try to play MK64 or MKDD or something along those lines that I miss, I always play for it about an hour then never touch again for months. Is it just nostalgia calling me back?

>There are people who actually think MK64 is better than DKR
DKR outstrips MK64 by a mile. It had an actual campaign, mirror tracks, mirror campaign, no rubber banding in the races which meant skill fucking mattered (bosses had it but then if they didn't they'd be a complete joke), bosses in the first place, a time trial that actually had a purpose (unlocking T.T) and was quite challenging, more tracks (20 vs 16) and a better item system.

The places where MK64 comes out ahead are consistent framerate; especially in multiplayer, more variety in track themes and it was easier to pick your favourite character since no-one was unusable or better then the others (Krunch was unplayable in DKR and Timber was objectively the best non-unlockable character for some reason, but not by much.)

Frankly, DKR was just more fun.

it's ur niggerness, u Need to get checked by the doc

nigger

> Waluigi makes his debut in a spin-off game, only gets to be in spin-offs
> Toadette makes her debut in a spin-off, gets to be in mainline games and be a main character in Captain Toad
How? That's not fucking fair

CTR is better, but dkr is a fucking joke, game is pure shit

both of those games are slippery as hell, I can handle DKR but CTR is just trash

>it was easier to pick your favourite character

not if someone else picked him first

I enjoy both, but for me MK64 had the superior and at the same time faulty track design.
I don't have the need to compare any of them, but to be honest I think Snowboard Kids 2 shits on every mascot racer from that era.

This post right here

This is the post of posts

This is how you post

Think of a good post, and here it is

Snowboard kids 2 was, still, and forever will be GOAT

shut up nigger tranny faggot

Yikes

waluigi is not a popular character in japan. That's why.

how does rubber banding automatically negate the need to have skill? If the rubber banding is super aggressive, wouldn't you need more skill to keep your lead? there comes a point where you get so much better than the computers, that rubber banding is the only way to add more challenge to the game.

Posting Kino.

Attached: 51WXpNOxrBL._SX466_.jpg (466x322, 39K)

Peach/Birdo or Peach/Toadette

not to mention, DKR does have rubber banding, the fucking boss battles outright cheat

because toadette actually makes sense as a character. there's plenty of different toads. waluigi is just some shitty OC that is only popular because of memes.

Imagine being this user.

You cannot agree with him, but at least he's not part of a fucking hivemind like the user who posted that image.

Any combo that excludes Paratroopa is a shit one

>looks like shit
Mario Kart Wii looks barely any better and the character models are actually worse looking than DD
>might have it’s flaws
It doesn’t “have its flaws,” MK Wii is a piece of shit and you’re a faggot.

Bowser and Wario in Bowser's car.

Still better than DD, by a long shot.

It’s not but I’m glad you like it.

There's a reason why every MK since Wii is watered down version of it and the DD concept was abandoned as soon as the game was released.

we all know diddy kong racing is better

Double Dash is zoomer trash

Nintendo has a history of keeping shitty things in their series’ while getting rid of things people like, just look at where Paper Mario or Mario Party is. Abandoning the DD system with all of the characters having their own specials that you could mix and match isn’t something to be celebrated in my opinion.

They abandoned as soon as it was released. We're not talking about gradually taking a shit on a franchise. DD was bland, it had good ideas, but the execution was bland.

>no one will ever know I’m underage if I accuse things I’m too young to have played as sooner trash even though it makes no sense teehee

Attached: 3DE0BB08-669A-450E-A523-2AA29B147D65.png (1440x1557, 738K)

>they abandoned as soon as it was released
And it’s a shame. Why do you base your opinion on a game on what nintendo thinks? I don’t care if they think the series is better off being like MK Wii, they’re wrong.

MK64 had fucking amazing tracks.

Best Mario Kart ever.

But it is. One of the things they have been right about.

Damn you gamecube kiddies are delusional
The gamecube was the original zoomer system

MK64 > MK8 > MK7 > MKWii > MKSC > SMK

Haven't played the others.

every gamecube gimmick was abonded, because they were shit

>if I double down they’ll double fall for it hahaha

Attached: D29101FA-F5CF-4433-A7BC-A95E495AEABD.jpg (480x360, 10K)

mkds is way better than any of those

Replayability and good game design.

I only ever played 64 and 8. Are he GC ones good? I just setup Dolphin

Double Dash is my personal favorite. Apparently thats a faggoty thing to say now. I don't give a shit.

All right, I'll concede on the interesting ideas being missing, perhaps the thing I missed the most is the double item option (which was brought back in MK8, still missing the switch option, tho). The personalized item thing not so much, I think it broke the item probability rule the game has, not to mention some personalized items were way better than others.
But good ideas doesn't mean the game is better than the others. Wii (not my favorite, by any means) got a lot of stuff right, mostly options that mattered and a functional oline system that gathered a big and dedicated userbase. It continued the idea of DD that MK was more than a Kart game and continued with different cars and bikes, only made the stats matter a lot, which was mostly ignored on other MKs before it. For the first time, it made TT matter outside the speedrun community due to the unlocks, and many more. And I honestly think they got better with after that, even if sometimes it feels watered down.

DOUBLEVISION

You can also enable rubberbanding for AI racers with an ingame code.

It was a faggoty thing then too. Like most Nintendo games, it was poisoned with gay ass gimmicks (2 drivers) instead of improving on the formula

Its fun, quite literally the only thing that matters. Pure chaos.

>8 racers all unlocked from the start
>all unlocked from the start
Every single multiplayer game should unlock everything from the start. I hate having to grind out boring bullshit so I can play as bowser in mario party.

Only on few tracks, like Luigi Circuit and Baby Park.
I liked it a lot, but feel every other Mario Kart after it was better.
They should add a faggot option and call it like that at the beginning of every multiplayer game, enabling it will have everything unlocked from the get go.

Why do you want unlockables in a game where you're mostly going to be playing with friends? The ideal is everything is unlocked for multiplayer, and you have a mode that's like the Sonic Racing Transformed challenge mode without characters being gated off

And enabling the faggot option should give you that.
People like creative ways to unlock stuff, it's rewarding even if the meta is unnecessary.

MK 64 BTFO!
