What fictional setting should Total War do next?

Once Warhammer's done, what other non-historical backdrop would suit the series?

Pcgamer has a few strange ideas:

What would you like to see? Keep in mind that

>LotR = License, no magic in battle.
>GoT = Not enough high fantasy, basically historical with 1-2 unique units.

Mikidemia and D&D could maybe work or something in the future

Age of Sigmar - TW when?

I REALLY want a 40k Total War but it will never happen fucking ever.

>AoS

iirc a studio that has a bunch of former relic devs is working on an AoS game. Looks like GW want to try to recapture that DoW magic for AoS

Mine. It has cooler worldbuilding anyway.

Warcraft of course, just imagine

>Age of Sigmar

Never god willing. Plus AoS has the same problem a 40k TW would: WFB was all about huge armies mashing against one another in big battles. 40k and AoS have much smaller armies that don't play to this.

Never. Trash lore is trash.

Tamriel Total War

Maybe one day, but it would require a lot of changes to basic TW mechanics.

Not quite. Mainline 40K? Yes. But you are forgetting stuff like Epic Warhammer 40000 and the Apocalypse expansion to mainline 40K. All the skirmishes are simply smaller battles that are part of larger ones we don't see anywhere except for these two above versions of 40K and in fluff.

Why can't we have a wh40k total war already for god's sake

AHEM
HoMM

What are you talking about, 40k armies number in the millions upon millions

England after it left the EU

As I said it in , that would require a lot of changes to base TW mechanics since 40K works on different rules.

Such as? Melee combat is still a thing in 40k and is even arguably used more often than guns in a lot of cases

As in changing it to fit more Epic Warhammer 40K/Apocalypse if it's supposed to be a Total War title proper.

Melee combat is viable if you're like a Space Marines but for IG players the enormous amount of combat will be shooting. In fact it's that way for most armies, even marines will shoot before melee unless they're assault units. Plus an entire chapter of marines is 1000 members, that's like a fraction of the size of most of my TWW armies. You'd have to compress some factions together, especially on the imperial side.

New sisters line when?

The Witcher's world. I just wanna install a Nilfgaardian superpower on the continent and destroy the superstitious and corrupt kingdom of Redania that burns heretics but somehow lets slut Sorceresses run the show.

I want a Total War (or even a deep and complex EU4 type game) of the modern world. Sick of Middle Ages combat or Roman shit. I just want to see if I could theoretically form an alliance between European powers to invade the USA or if I could create a neo colonial realm in Africa again.

TW is essentially two games - a campaign map where you struggle for territory and resources with a large amount of enemy factions, and a battle map where you control upwards of a thousand men divided into twenty units of strict formations to try to outmanoeuvre the enemy. Neither fits 40k's scale. You'd have to first change the campaign map to be divided into different planets, which makes conquering them in a single battle seem odd. Then you'd have to have a weird battle style where you have a unit of 60-80 space marines marching together in a single block of men and moving into melee first, which breaks lore horribly. You also have to be able to declare war on your allies (it's not called Total War for no reason!) so that setup has to be plausibly beatable by an IG army.

I think it'd be possible, but it'd be extremely off the wall compared to any other TW game and require creative talent that CA just doesn't have, and at that point why even make it a TW game?

>LotR
>no magic in battle

Then do a Silmarillion Total War. That shit's more epic than anything in Warhammer.
