Depeon what I’m emulating
My controller autism isn't strong enough to justify using more than one or two controllers for emulation. I use Xbone controller for anything that does support xinput and a DS4 for anything that forces dinput.
not this one. For sure.
A PS3 controller.
It is great though.
DS4
buffalo snes for retro, xbone for modern
Never had a good experience with 8bitdo.
I'll buy one of the new Saturns from Retro-bit. They look glorious.
DS3 until it broke, then DS4 (which still works but I hate it), and now a 8bitdo sn30 pro which I also use for everything else
no real complain about it except for the oversensitive diagonals on the d-pad
>there are """people""" on this board right now who use shitty old gamepad designs with terrible ergonomics to play emulators
Nostalgiafags are truly subhuman
The M30 is unironically great.
By far the best one they've released so far, leaps above the rest.
I unironically prefer smaller controllers with no handles, and I never even had old consoles (I was gaming on PC in the 90s)
never been a fan of big bulky controllers
>tfw no good nes controllers for pc
Yeah, those retrobit ones are pretty golden
I'm going to agree it is great, except for one minor flaw.
In the megadrive collection for switch you can't have 1:1 mapping on the buttons.
And also you can't use it for Tetris 99 without heavily gimping yourself.
OH MY GOD
WHAT THE FUCK
Well that has more to do with software than the hardware, however if button layout is your issue, have you tried the button combination to swap A-B X-Y?
You can do that at any time, if that's what you're having problems with.
fightstick for arcade games
m30 for sega games
ibuffalo for SNES
n30 pro for NES
xbone for everyhing else
Is it? I worry about the dpad, for some reason it reminds me of the 360 dpad.
Mine arrives today, I'm carefully optimistic. I heard great and horrible things about it, like the retro-bit gamepads. I chose this one because bluetooth and extra buttons are always appreciated.
I know that. Its mostly Sega's fault for not having remappable buttons in the collection. Also would be a pain for arcade sticks too if you wanted to use one with the game. Its fine to use on PC emulation of course.
I kind of wished 8bitdo had a firmware update where it changed its buttons to match the collections mapping. I mean it seems possible given you can switch the layout of the buttons as is already.
I have one. I played Sanic Mania with it. It's fine, it feels like a Genesis model 3 controller, I never really had any issues with it.
It's a little small, that's the only thing that I was a little wary about. It's considerably smaller than the OG Genesis controller.
What?
Oh don't tell me you -actually- plan to mash the d-pad and play fighting games without worrying about it. It's plastic, it's supposed to break!
It doesn't have d-pad issues or anything of the sort.
On the switch it has a slightly above average input lag, slightly above a Switch Pro (that will be fixed with a patch later on, as in every 8bit has before), and some people report the bluetooth connection being a bit weak so you can't be a huge distance away from wherever you're trying to play (tho personally i haven't encountered this problem, maybe it depends on the specific manifacturer).
Just ordered one. It seems they're pretty great and a lot of people claim it's as good as the original. Guess I found my fightan/shmup/2D controller.
For a wireless controller its latency is pretty low and the dpad is really good. The buttons are a little stiffer than you'd expect and make your fingers a bit sore if you played for hours on end with it, but again, responsive.
Its the kind of controller that's great for fighting games. It can even handle Super Street Fighter 2 combos and those are very strict on input. A laggy controller you couldnt do, say Ken's aerial jab into tastsu combo.
I play at a distance at which I could easily just play wired, on PC.
Yeah, that was one of the reasons I picked it up. I'm more into smaller controllers and I wanted a rounder thing.
>I worry about the dpad, for some reason it reminds me of the 360 dpad.
lol whut
It's the single best d-pad out there to play fighting games with, it's on a completely different league than something as shitty as the 360 pad.
If you only plan to play platformers with it, tho, you might slip upwards or downwards, so in that case you might want a cross shaped d-pad instead.
Tho, generally speaking, once i got a little bit of pratice in i had no problems adapting, but at that point it all comes down to personal preference (i mean it's used for sonic, and that game does require precision here and there).
But no, it has nothing in common with the 360 d-pad, if you've never used this type of d-pad before you're gonna have your mind blown when you try it out on a fighting game for the first time.
8bitdo d-pads are hot garbage.
The SNES and NES ones are little slippery on input i will happily admit, but the M30 is very hard to beat.
Also never got on with the PS3 D-Pad, I find it a little stiff for my liking.
>When the buyer's remorse kicks in
>posts the mushiest, saddest excuse of a dpad ever made
You might be right about 8bitdo, but I highly doubt it if you think that your pic is a representation of a good dpad
>Its the kind of controller that's great for fighting games
I play BB, GG and SamSho on my switch using it.
I got 2 of them and they turned my switch into a reliable weeb fighting machine.
I mean obviously a full stick would be better, but the convenience of carrying with you 2 "primed" fighting game controllers for a console that is inherently portable and easy to set up from place to place, is pretty damn great.
Took me a second to realize what was wrong. This isn't a prevalent problem is it?
>GG
As in, i will, in like half a week when the collection releases.
Brainlet here, how is it supposed to be?
Look closely at the dpad part.
Nigga the plastic underneath the d-pad is completely broken.
No, apparently it was the first batch only, they've changed the plastic and they're fixing the broken ones. As far as I know.
You're not fooling me again, 8bitdo.
Talking about the 3DS, i actually use this grip for my N3DSXL.
Makes it incredibly more firm and comfy to use.
I had to import mine from japan back in the day tho, so i have no idea if they even sell this specific grip anymore.
No d-pad can beat the Saturn one. So stop it.
DS4
Some random bootleg ps3 controller that i found in a supermarket for like 5$
>No d-pad can beat the Saturn one
It's literally what the M30 is modeled after, so no shit.
There are round d-pads where left will register as up. There are round d-pads where up-right will always, always register as up-right. The 360 d-pad is flaw in how it's designed, not because it's round, but because of a combination between the little tabs at the bottom of the d-pad, how tight it is (you can't really move it around essentially, some people even use sandpaper to fix this problem), the shitty silicone pads and the board itself. It's quite a failure and even microsoft admitted this by essentially making a completely different design (and they could have gone round, too) and releasing a more expensive 360 pad with a different d-pad that could be modified.
The shape of a d-pad, unless it's definitely weird is not the biggest issue. There are cross shaped d-pads or even dual shock shaped ones that will not let you do left-right-left-right quickly without hitting an up or down, and there are round d-pads that will do that without trouble. It's all a matter of what's underneath.
However, shape is important for ergonomic purposes. You can hurt your thumb more on a dual shock d-pad than any other gamepad, because there's nothing in the center and you hit it often with the middle of your thumb (unless you hit the d-pad like it's buttons, but who does that?). Just keep that in mind.
My left thumb says fuck your family and ancestors
Apparently is a bad batch, but if you follow the twitter account there's still people having this issue. I wouldn't risk buying this on a country where shipping a replacement would be more expensive than the thing itself.
I use this one
amazon.com
It's hella comfortable cost me 20 bucks but it was worth it
>It's literally what the M30 is modeled after, so no shit.
Do you work for 8bitdo?
Welp, I'm cancelling my order. Didn't know about this stuff.
Yeah, for now it's best to wait, until they fix this problem.
I guess if you can wait, buy it maybe next month. Though I'm not sure how they plan to fix that other than using decent plastic.
i recently ordered 2 controllers
the new sega saturn controller by retrobit and ibuffalo snes.
I absolutely love the dpad on my snes controller, Ive been playing shovel knight with it and its been a pleasent experience compared to my ps4 controller. i even started up some old retro games because of it.
the saturn controller is lost on me though, I have absolutely no idea why so many love it, the dpad is not that tactile and the concve/convex bbuttons are horrid. LR buttons? they're not good.
so right now
>shmups and arcade games
my seimetsu stick and buttons
>retro
ibuffalo or ps4 if more buttons are needed
>I have absolutely no idea why so many love it
Fighting games.
Why the fuck does no one on Yea Forums play fighting games?
Why are you all such shitters?
The shoulder buttons on the retro-bit ones are pathetic compared to the original. They cut corners wherever possible and the only thing they have going for it is, it's cheap.
Aren't fighting games played with a stick? How many pros use saturn pads?
i have a stick for that. so its useless.
How do you like seimitsu buttons? Been torn between getting sanwas and seimitsus for the longest time, have only ever tried sanwas though. They seem really underrated for how quality they are from what I've heard.
I play fighting games with a stick. Why the fuck would I use this thing?
ive done research on this and from what ive gathered
For fighting games you want a sanwa stick. buttons are a preference just order one of each and choose which one you like. theyre like $2.50 each so its not much.
for shmups and retro gaming get seimetsu stick like me. tighter and shorter throw. buttons again are preference.
I use my Switch Gamecube controller, its the only usb one I own.
Buffalo SNES controller for anything before PS/N64.
Xbox One controller for anything after.
Hori PS4 mini stick for arcade games.
