What are some RPGs that have well realized, unique settings that isn't some sort of generic sci-fi or Tolkien pastiche?

Illusion City?

Final Fantasy 12

Planetscape Torture

what's so good about the dark sun setting? from that picture, looks like mad max but with magic?

Post apocalyptic sword and sorcery where there's no connection to the divine so magic pulls life energy out of the planet and the world is a ruined hellscape because dick-ass wizards don't know right from wrong, and everyone hates wizards because of it but at the same time since there aren't any gods putting a limit on that shit wizards are also obscenely powerful, hence sucking up all the life force and ruining everything. Even metal is super fucking rare and precious.

It's a neat setting and criminally underutilized, though they did bring it back for 4th (And I think 5th?) edition tabletop.

Earthbound AND u losers don't have to like it

>looks like mad max but with magic
You say that like it's a bad thing.

Wow that actually sounds fun to read. Do you reccomend any novels in this world? or should I just stick to the core books from 2nd and 4th ed?

Plan Escape: Tournament is such a god damn good setting, which (iirc) is now dead and will never be replicated again.
I tired to get into Numanuma but it just wasn't the same.

The Age of Decadence

Fallout

>Planetscape Torture
>Plan Escape: Tournament
>Numanuma

Are you trying to talk about "Planescape: Torment" and "Numenera?" GET OFF YOUR PHONES. I'll admit "Plan Escape: Tournament" is an intriguing name for a game.

Fresh off the boat, faggot?

Purposely misspelling Planescape: Torment is an old tradition.

No idea, never read any D&D novels so I couldn't tell you if any of them are any good.

Numanuma's definitely not the same. They both suck pretty goddamn hard when it comes to gameplay, but Planetscape's a more properly fleshed out setting. Numanuma's still a fun setting for a game generally speaking, but the game we ended up getting had a fun story (It's actually one of the more memorable RPGs in recently memory story-wise to me) but a whole fucking ton of sorta pointless worldbuilding. I did play through it and finish it but it is kind of hard to recommend to anyone except for RPG diehards, and even then only if you're of the storyfag persuasion.

Anonymous, please.

Look I can't keep up with you kids anymore alright. I can't tell if it's someone posting with an autocorrect mistake or a joke of sorts.

Superhero league of Hoboken

For as good as the setting is, the novels are an absolute trash fire. Some of the shit that's pulled would make a first time DM say what the fuck

Is Shattered Lands the only game that's made use of the Dark Sun IP?

>Even metal is super fucking rare and precious
Flashbacks to my half-giant in OP's game constantly breaking his weapons mid-combat, he was fucking cursed I swear. Had to carry a load of spares until I got enough enchanted weapons to go around

Nope, Wake of the Ravager too.

Its sequel:

Wake of the Ravager, basically Shattered Lands with a city hub and bigger, uglier sprites for some reason. I don't think I've even managed to get half way through it without hitting a game breaking bug, the game is a disaster

Worth playing if I liked Shattered Lands?

can you elaborate on the whole magic pulling life energy out of the planet? is it like a limtied resource? or just like today's pollution making the world a worse place overall? can you suck the life out of somebody to cast a bigger spell or something like that?

WotC keep using Planescape shit in 5th edition D&D but they've decided to be stingy as fuck with content releases and we probably won't get an actual new edition Planescape setting book ever.

I'd be happy with a non-shit Truenamer class.

Morrowind
Elder Scrolls may have started out ripping off Tolkien in a lot of ways but it comes to its own here.

Only Oblivion, t b h.

Steampunk Tolkien deserves to be mentioned as well.
