Lee's death is generic for zombie films. It doesn't even come close to either of the two major deaths in Dawn or the most major death in Night. Even within zombie games it isn't that good. Resident Evil managed to make Ada's fakeout death in RE2 far more impactful, and Steve Burnside's death in CV is especially tragic.
John Marston is a well directed death, but isn't as good compared to western films. There isn't a big pool of western games to choose from, so you're not really going to find any good comparisons there.

Honestly, FFVII. Given, I was 12, so I was more susceptible to getting caught up in the story, but that one hit me hard once or twice. Not even Aeris' death, because my friend had spoiled that for me before I even started, but everything leading up to it had a sort of melancholy hanging over it. Partly because her death was constantly dangling overhead in my mind, but I think another big part of that was Uematsu's score. It sounds so sad at times.

The whole story is really a cluster fuck of bullshit and ridiculous plot twists and insanity, but snakes the only guy who actually seems to have it all together and just trying to do the right thing. You know, I wish that plot point had been made a bit more apparent. Hardly anything seemed to imply Snake and Otacon were hated by the public masses.
