How would you fix star allies or what would you have wanted instead of star allies?

remove friends
add the kirby 64 double ability mechanic

Kirby bread

More interesting level design and more original bosses.

Attached: ado window.jpg (634x480, 193K)

They should have just made it like the 3DS games, but let you use friends if you want instead.

More stuff in the vein of HiAD and Soul Melter EX that actually let you flex with the really robust movesets every ability/Dream Friend have and how good the physics and movement feel.

Either add an EX mode to Guest Star that makes enemies live longer, deal more damage, and spawn in larger numbers (and has less forced team puzzles so you can run it mostly solo). or basically a Bloody Palace equivalent that's a longer, harder version of the Ability Star combat room with actual bosses at certain intervals.

Attached: 1548678832969.jpg (1280x720, 47K)

I would have had given more helpers different attacks to help separate from Kirby and have multiple helpers for the same ability. like give parasol dee aqua shot, let bonkers throw coconut bombs, give plugg the spark moveset, let noddy have sleep’s battle royale moveset and give walky the mike robobot armor moveset, even if they weren’t helpers, or let both mr frosty and chilly be helpers, or both plugg and plasma wisp be helpers. I would have also brought back more abilities and let Kirby recolors still be an option for multiplayer.

Bump

I want to go back to Kirby 64's level design ( and to a lesser extent TD & Robobot ), with more seemless integration of the shiny macguffins into the level rather than seperate doors with puzzles & abilities available. Some may say it's a bit annoying, but I don't think Kirby's difficulty justifies the keeping of that one ability you're most comfortable with ( until that door puzzle kicks in ). That's the minimum for me if we're gonna stick to the RtDL formula. Maybe faster mobility specs as well, and more zoomed in action: Kirby looks too small in Star Allies, kind of unsatisfying.
More ambition would be nice: Part of why people like AM or Superstar is because they changed things up. Let Kirby go on a treasure again, or a pseudo metroidvania. Anything that isn't Grass/Water/Desert/Ice/Factory or Fire/Space again is appreciated

I would have made the game more single player oriented and make guest star have a different final boss for each dream friend.

Would be an improvement but balancing would come up with a problem. When it comes to True Arenas and Soul Melter very few copy abilities are used to poor damage output or reach from others

While i'm on talking about Kirby 64. One thing from that game that should 100% be learned from is storytelling & cutscenes. It's the perfect & rightful evolution of the clips you could see in Adventure, Dreamland 2 & 3. Everything is established wonderfully: In the 2 cutscenes that present your 3 main partners in K64, you learn everything you need to know about them, their personality & quirks, and its only reinforced & played with masterfully as you go by world by world, and all that without a SINGLE WORD.

I also would have changed bandana dee’s moveset. Have his down b twirl his bandana around him like leaf tornado. I would have let him use his parasol for water attacks. Also, if an enemy got really close to him, he would grab on to them with his bandana and throw them around using his bandana like a whip. I just kind of wanted to incorporate the main four abilities introduced in return to dreamland into bandana dee.

What would the new name be because of the lack of allies

Of course

After the updates, i’d say fix the story mode’s boring level design, better story mode music, and 60fps, or at least a consistent 30fps because after the final update it can’t even do that

I wish we got a Kirby game that mixed the cut content of Kirby GCN with the cut content of Kirby 64, I don’t know how it would work, but it would be a hell of a thing to see.

Attached: 1554052538369.png (3216x3109, 3.14M)

Don't design stages with 4 players in mind, it makes them too braindead even for Kirby.
More enemies that don't die in a single hit.
Actual good level design, like in the EX Campaign.
Less nostalgia pandering; give us more new content that we can look back to years from now.

And I would honestly overhaul the combat. True Ex Arena really highlights how many abilities are worthless or how all of them only have a single useful attack.

I still liked SA though, but Kirby has room to shine brighter and appeal to outsiders that aren't diehard fans.

Meta Knight 3D action platformer that goes over the history of Dedede, Meta Knight, Bandana Dee and Ado. Galacta Knight as the main villain with maybe a little help from Dark Matter Swordsmen

Continuing on with this whole helper move sets, I would have made flamer a helper and had his move set be a mix between jet, fire, and burning and let hot head shoot fire balls instead of breathe fire just standing there in one place. I would have given mr frosty dedede’s head slide if he was a helper, and I would have given waddle doo revolution beam.

Attached: 251B85F6-3DD5-4D8E-AD7B-168B7CE7F165.jpg (4096x4096, 495K)

Sounds cool

Challenge: try and make a full fledged super star styled move set for each of the combo abilities of Kirby 64 the crystal shards, one ability at a time so everyone can think of a move set.

Ado didn’t get a spirit, but she did get a stage.

I wish bandana dee got a boss fight, maybe as bandana waddle doo

ADD JET TO STAR ALLIES

ADD JET TO EVERY KIRBY GAME

Attached: Jet kirby.png (312x386, 115K)

Susie is Jet + Laser + Robobot

Yes, but user wants Jet in every game. Could you add Susie to every game?

I remember some pixiv artist managed to make fire/ice useful by making kirby whip out an ice cube that serves as lenses/mirror for a laser

Attached: thumbnail_20190427_010120.jpg (1280x960, 373K)

If you did then more Susie x Francisca fan art would pop up.

As an example for final bosses
Dedede: 8 bit black and white Dedede or a giant masked dedede
Meta knight: nightmare or a fusion
Bandana dee: either Marx, magolor, an Extremely buffed grand mam while not using the friend star, or maybe even a halacandran dee using the master crown and a spear
Animal friends: Dark Matter
Marx: 16 bit Marx or Marx soul
Gooey: Zero
Ado and ribbon: Zero 2
Dark meta knight: Dark mind
Daroach: dark nebula except he’s cool
Magolor: Magolor ex or soul
Taranza: Sectonia incorporating some attacks from her ex and soul forms
Susie: Star dream soul os
Mage sisters: honestly, maybe just the same thing as they have already

HELL YEAH
I autisticly like to climb up walls by bashing my head into them with jet

I can’t climb up walls by repeatedly bashing into them with Susie

Attached: thumbnail_20190501_181501.jpg (1280x960, 405K)

I would do nothing because Star Allies is just fine.

Attached: D6VFtZOUIAA9oLX.jpg orig.jpg (2433x1723, 421K)

I love SA and consider it one of the best Kirby games post Wave 3 and even I think it could've done a lot of stuff better.

I’ll go with an easy one: flaming bow and arrow, basically just take archer and give it a fire property.

How was your mother’s day?

Attached: BDE883E8-50B0-40AA-82CF-2A0B35DC62E0.jpg (1020x689, 247K)

Does anyone have any concept art for the cut stuff from Kirby 64 and concept art for Kirby GCN

Attached: thumbnail_20190504_210736.jpg (1280x960, 169K)

Add Nightmare. Please, HAL, I beg of you.

The only thing Star Allies really needed was more original bosses. Hyness and his mage generals were decent, but beyond them, the new bosses were all just reskins, which sometimes worked but often didn't.

Attached: 72740475529574828368.jpg (473x444, 39K)

The shit level design and lazily recycled bosses need complete overhauls so it might as well be a new game.

For meta knight, I meant to say nightmare or a fusion between nightmare and meta knight called meta knightmare.

Attached: thumbnail_20190504_210412.jpg (1280x960, 168K)

I’m not even joking, that’s my favorite thing to do with jet

This, plus 60fps. I'm honestly curious on how different this game would look/play as when using yuzu.

I tried to use Susie as a Jet replacement, but... it's just not the same.

Exactly

What are the share codes for these stages?

A hard mode akin to that of the one in Kirby's Dreamland. Enemies are now harder variants, bosses have more complex attack patterns, etc. The secret final boss goes into this hard mode as well, as opposed to being at the end of only boss rush or whatever. Better level design is a given, and Kirby's friend's AI needs to be toned down so they don't just kill everything for you. Puzzles are should be actual puzzles instead of LOL BRING A POWERUP HERE OR SOMETHING. Bosses should have a DPS cap or a lower one if they do have one. Make playing without powerups more viable.

Also honestly now that I think about, make it a metroidvania like Kirby and the amazing mirror.
Multiplayer would now be splitscreen instead of what it does now.

I dunno, I thought it looked funny.

Every single kirby game is fucking identical.

Then how would change up the formula?

Well, the main formula is perfect... Why change it?

This is bandana dee’s redesign to make him stand out from the other waddle dees

Just give Bandanna Dee cool sunglasses. There you go.

Anyone have any more ideas on how to separate the helpers’ move sets from Kirby

Some people simply like to see cute girls being smug, I would say there isn’t enough art of her being smug

Attached: 1543432218853.jpg (288x288, 20K)

Not enough, he must become Freddy Fuckboy

Design the game around 1 player and make the co-op feel more optional. Take Kirby's hats off of the Star Allies. Add Wheelie Bike as a Star Ally. All of the Dream Friends need to be bosses that are integrated into the story. Use helpers for the 4-player minigames.

I like this

If he must become a damn animatronic, at least give him an eyepatch and make him Foxy. Freddy is the lamest of them all.

>Galacta Knight as the main villain
Meta Knight gets his own game and can't even get an original villain to fight? Sounds fucking gay.

Too late, he’s the bear now

a VS mode

Give don puff a full moveset, bring back needle and give the helper the spin dash,

Bandana dee would need a giant buff and a move set overhaul

kirby isn't bandana dee rivals one way or at least "hope to beat"
0/10

>squander Bandana Waddle Dee
>create a more distinctive group of Dees
>but only as a Japanese PR mascot
I just want a good Waddle Dee character, is that too much to ask?

Bandana Dee never says in any game that he wants to beat or face Kirby. In every game since RtDL all he does is try and appease Kirby. Even in Battle Royale where he talks all the time and the whole game is centered around fighting Kirby, Bandana Dee is fine just sucking the Kirby cock.

He should get it, Meta Knight and Dedede should get a flashier moveset as well

Attached: DtQdaKOVAAEZLq4.jpg (1200x848, 314K)

>but only as a Japanese PR mascot
they made it into kirby battle royal!

I think it's important that Waddle Dees are themselves good characters like they were from DL1 to the Canvas Curse. A lot of their appeal seems to have been lost since using other characters that totally lack their most defining traits.

it doesn't need to be balanced, it just needs to be there.

make next kirby game in smash engine

The engine would have to be modified for platforming

of course

I wish star allies’ sub games had as much effort put into them as the 3ds sub games

Kirby characters then:
>Kirby, the lovable dope that wants to keep the peace
>King Dedede, the arrogant knuckleheaded king of Dream Land that does selfish things and wants to best Kirby, but also cares about Dream Land
>Meta Knight, the mysterious and dangerous leader of the Meta-Knights that cares more than anything about his image and his power
>Rick, Kirby's energetic buddy
>Coo, Kirby's cool, level-headed buddy
>Kine, Kirby's really laid-back buddy
>Waddle Dee, the most peaceful, easygoing, and harmless creatures in the land
>Adeleine, the mysterious, mild-mannered traveling artist that likes making friends and having adventures

Kirby characters now:
>Kirby, the baby with infinite power
>King Dedede, Kirby's energetic buddy
>Meta Knight, Kirby's cool, level-headed buddy
>Bandana Waddle Dee, Kirby's loyal buddy
>Magolor, sometimes

That's what Kirby GCN was.

Proof?

Look at how characters react to taking a hit.

>what would you have wanted instead of star allies?
Air Ride 2

The next game is a spin-off based on your favorite kirby character, how would it work?

Back then, every character was getting explored while Kirby spectated like the young player-insert he was. Now it's all about how Kirby is literally God and nothing else matters other than him.

>Waddle Doo
Beats me.

Kirby's not a baby even now. Star Allies has him speak in one of the pause descriptions.

I would fix it by showing Susies Haltmann's Underpants Color.

Then why does the voice keep getting shriller?

But that game never came out. I want them to use some smash elements in Kirby. They’ve already brought some over, may as well make them function as well as the do in smash.

>Void Termina incarnated into Zero and Kirby

Attached: explain.png (526x700, 486K)

>actual level design instead of big open square rooms with a few thin platforms
>better implementation of gimmick powerups besides "destroy everything lol"
>60fps
Star Allies set up a good foundation for the next game. It's a shame they already blew their load with all the dream friends. Hopefully they come back next game.

Is the same voice actress of always, but at least he is back to more complex speech than back in the “Poyo” days, is quite annoying to see some people are still trapped in said days

Attached: D6INsorUwAAVVz4.jpg (1200x990, 124K)

>Adeleine
She spends hours creating a giant new imaginary landscape painting. She falls into it while taking a nap. Now she's in the world of her unfinished painting. Everyone inside the painting has troubles and the levels themselve have missing spots that the player needs to paint to fix. It would be kind of like Okami meets Graffiti Kingdom.

Hal hasn't made Smash since Melee, so it's not happening.

If anything it's more like
>Kirby characters then:
Kirby, King Dedede, and whatever one off character this game has
>Kirby characters now:
Kirby, King Dedede, Meta Knight, Bandana Waddle Dee and whatever one off character this game has

Wow, in retrospect you’re damn right. Even in the way Kirby was fighting, movement animations, they way enemies were launched, etc. definitely reminiscent of melee. why did they abandon that idea? I’d love to see them try again.

Do you borbs think we'll see something at E3?

It's because Kirby seems far less expressive than he used to be. For example, in games like 64 he was a rather slapsticky character that seemed to understand everything going on around him, he made his own choices, and he had a personality. Now he only has a blank face, a smile, a surprised face, or he screams.

Attached: 5cf.jpg (680x529, 62K)

He’s still right about the personalities

If anything it's more like
>Kirby characters then:
Kirby, King Dedede, Whispy Woods, and whatever promintent new characters the game wishes to explore
>Kirby characters now:
Kirby, King Dedede, Meta Knight, Bandana Waddle Dee and whatever one off character this game has

>taranza
I guess we'll be searching for waifus?

I don’t get what you mean, especially since you’re using DL1 as an example
Robobot was fantistic with giving character to the average Dee, seeing every weird way that they integrated into the robotic world was fun. Triple Deluxe was notably good about this as well. Return to Dream Land, especially if you count Halcandran Dees is fine about bringing the Dees and Doos into the world. Star Allies was an outlier

which one?

So a dating sim, maybe throw in some psychological horror with taranza having nightmarish visions of sectonia

Epic Yarn does it best of all.

>whatever promintent new characters the game wishes to explore
You say this like characters like Adeleine and Gooey have more depth than Magolor or Daroach despite the fact that they're all flat characters, with the modern ones being more in depth than anything
They're all just one off characters, take off your nostalgia blinders

Probably. Poor guy's gonna be fucked up regardless.

Attached: tumblr_pqz4um1ulZ1y9c08uo2_r1_1280.png (1200x1000, 544K)

>Dark Matter Blade
Parody JRPG? Virus simulator? Musuo? No clue

I wanted to say something about Epic Yarn but I didn’t want to get into making an argument for each post-CC spin off

kirby

Ah yes, prominent not one off characters like…

That’s true, Kirby is mostly Happy, sad, concerned, angry, with little variation next to how he used to be back then, not only Kirby 64 he also had much more expressions even in the older games

Attached: lHDg8UEKPsuyE_rF.webm (480x360, 1.53M)

Animal Friends, Adeleine, and Gooey are better than Magolor and Taranza because, like Kirby, they are flat characters. They don't need special attention or pages of lore to work on a game-to-game basis, they contribute a style and personality to the setting on their own and can contribute to any situation in a multitude of ways. They simply work as a part of the setting and games. A good cast has a mix of flat characters and dynamic characters. Transitioning King Dedede and Meta Knight from dynamic characters to flat characters, and removing the previous flat characters that had much more versatility in such roles, was stupid, but only in hindsight. Including each new character as a dynamic character that completes their arc and becomes flat in the end dooms them into feeling like one-offs that aren't interesting or needed in future appearances. Daroach never had an arc or became a flat character, he just stopped appearing altogether like Adeleine and Gooey, until Star Allies, so you can't put him along characters like Magolor and Taranza. But then again Star Allies uses them more as references than essential characters. I still think Daroach could be a perfect rival for Kirby, King Dedede, and Meta Knight, all as seperate parties.

Like Mar-wait shit he was in like one game, like gooey and Adele-shit only two games

Mainly Adeleine, from DL2 to K64. Who knows what was planned for Shimomura's next project? We'll never know if he even made it that far after 64.

Shimomura only directed three games total. Sakurai only directed three main games. It's not really fair to call a promintent new character a one-off just because their creator was umable to keep using them.

This entirely contradicts the original point of
>whatever prominent new characters the game wishes to explore
considering literally none of those characters were developed beyond being a flat character, like you mentioned.
Having flat characters so you can develop them later on is a good idea, but not so much when they're literally never developed. Unless you really think that characters like Gooey had "significant character exploration."
If anything, the Shimomura games are the most guilty of lacking any character development. At least with Sakurai / Kumazaki, you get your character, you hear their whole life story, let them develop over the course of the game, and that's it. It's this thinking that applies to Nightmare, Marx, Magolor, Taranza, Susie, etc. With Shimomura, it's just "Here's your character. They act as Kirby's friend. Their personality is that they're Kirby's friend. This personality of theirs doesn't change. They're going to be gone next game."
Like, don't get me wrong. If Rick or something actually stuck around and truly developed, then I'd agree with you 100%. But not a single Dark Matter trilogy character ever actually does. The closest thing is Adeleine, and even then that's just "I was possessed and now we're friends." Hardly development whatsoever, nor is it the aforementioned "significant character exploration."

Attached: wholesome kirby discussion.png (503x214, 10K)

Taranza just needs to get a GF. Even a random dumpy waddle dee could work. Just someone to hug him and tell him it's all gonna a be alright also to make sure he takes his meds

>considering literally none of those characters were developed beyond being a flat character, like you mentioned.
This is working under the assumption that the only thing a character can contribute is story or something focused on the character themselves, which is untrue. That is the role of an active character, such as King Dedede and Meta Knight in Super Star. A passive character contributes more in how they react to the world around them, how they work with other passive characters, and how they react to dynamic characters. Also minor stylistic themes and subtext that makes them such flexible and enduring characters.
>Having flat characters so you can develop them later on is a good idea, but not so much when they're literally never developed.
A flat character does not need to be developed, especially not in a video game. A flat character needs to evolve. A flat character will adapt to various roles, various characters, and various stories. The flat character themself should not be the focus unless it's the protagonist.
>If anything, the Shimomura games are the most guilty of lacking any character development.
If anything, every character introduced in those games is already fully-formed and fills unique niches of both the Kirby setting and game design.

>also to make sure he takes his meds
Thanks for reminding me that I still have this!

Will he? I do wonder what will happen to the "Dream Friends", will they keep up showing up from time to time or will they simply stop using some of them

As long as Kumazaki keeps directing the series, all his one-offs will keep sticking around in a weird state of limbo where they either don't do anything or just make background cameos.

Kirby has gotten formulaic and predictable to the point where they should make a Kirby game where the only returning character is Kirby. Every friend, enemy, ability, and boss should be unique.

60 fps

What is your opinion on a human Kirby character?

Attached: adeleine.png (800x1224, 748K)

We don't see Dyna Blade enough anymore.

I don't mind having Adeleine or a human-like character such as the salesguy as long as we don't wind up getting humans taking over the series.

She's pretty mysterious but also nice. I like the concept of a human realism-artist playing in a world of pure fantasy. She's pretty much an alien in the setting but something familiar and nostalgic to us, and that only increases the sense of escapism and dreamyness in the series. That sense of perspective makes including her really special, especially with the staff roll being accompanied by her art. I think she's one of my favorites and she seems really underused.

Attached: 1556413716443.jpg (1200x900, 152K)

Star Warrior.

She's pretty much like the Christopher Robin for the Kirby series.

Is she that powerful? Did she make Dream Land?

Nerf i-frames. I don't want to go back to the KSS Suplex situation with 5% actual suplexing and 95% dropkicks, but being able to Roomba the boss to death from inside their hurtbox is too much.

And throw away the "any power can win!" mentality. Each boss should be beatable with a specific handful, for actual combat reasons that involve the Ability's entire kit, and not just because it's their elemental weakness. Like a small, hard-to-snipe boss who is vulnerable to small-enemy knockback and can thus be juggled by Fighter/Paint/Umbrella. Or a boss who has to be shoved in target directions by Stone/Beetle/Bomb attacks from specific angles.

But still beatable by Inhale, barely.

Attached: oddly respectable.png (865x719, 776K)

Maybe the series is all in her imagination.

post the other versions

The part where she draws a ninja that she then rides on suggests that she's just a placeholder for mechanics they couldn't fit in elsewhere. But she's a legacy character and wholesomely cute in the way Kirby is, so she fits in thematically.

Susie, on the other hand, is wildly out of place. Pretty sure she and the Mage-Sisters only exist as degenerate-sinks.

Forcing the player to only use a specific set of abilities for bosses is a bit much for a game series aimed at little children, unless it's towards the end of the story like how Miracle Matter was done or the postgame like HiAD.
Nerfing i-frames is a good idea though.

No.

I know this one has a lewd version, but I don't know about the other version despite it having a way better position

Then have two different difficulty settings: one where the bosses are slow to attack and are vulnerable at all times, and one where you have to play around them. Don't make me sit through baby mode to get to the good part.

It bothers me to no end that this series has one billion advanced mechanics you will never need because Player 1 wants to play the entire game as Chef Kawasaki and Player 2 has never pressed the guard button.

Susie and the Mage Things do feel like waifu bait. Especially with the Mage Things and their voices.

okay
>remove super star - esque theming of worlds, add in a standard grass. desert, ice, etc world themes
>remove any areas that require friend techniques, or add in paths that allow play without helpers
>allow players 2-4 to join in at any time without waiting on player one to throw a heart

Anywhere I can read this particular manga? It has 25 volumes. Even raw scans would be fine.

cont. for bump
>give material rewards for obtaining collectables, ie spray paint, music tracks, more easily accessible ability rooms, battle royale-style ability skins, other junk like how squeak squad did it
>add archer, tornado, wheel, jet, leaf and poison, with archer being imbueable, wheel having a friend action depending on the element, and poison being a new element
>add other abilities like smash, ufo, laser and ball and their helpers as ability room-exclusive dlc
>remove festival
>give cook ability a full moveset

Take all of the post-release free DLC and include it in the base game.

Dude, that looks pretty neat! I wanna read that too! Sadly the only 64 manga I have is the 4koma one.
