SM64 was the first mainline Mario game I ever played, but Galaxy is easily still the most soulful Mario game. OP's pic is neat, though - I had no idea that this was a thing in Super Mario 64. I guess since it was the first 3D game they were making, they were a lot more conscious of what it was they were adding in and how it would interact with the environments, whereas idle animations like that were so commonplace by the time Odyssey came around that they never even considered something like that.

I'm guessing it's because as the first movie of the z warriors piccolo was more anti-hero towards goku than after he takes care of gohan. I don't think gohan is under piccolo's care in this part of the timeline. But it was dumb to remove him. And replace the nicely drawn animation which that glossy and almost embossed looking crap with thick outlines? Damn what a disaster.

nu-Odyssey was unironically made by amateurs. Nintendo have been trying to train fresh young developers for a long time but that raw talent doesn't exist anymore.

Weird opinion because if anything, the new one definitely looks generic more than ever, it could be from any 3D animation show featuring a blue dinosaur.

Now the old one doesn't seem generic to me, it has an uncanny and creepy vibe. Wether it's intentional or not doesn't matter, a lot of the magic of the early 3D days came from its limitations.
