This is objectively the best 3d game, and does for 3d what Tetris does for 2d. Though the atmosphere lacks the expressiveness of games such as Ikaruga or Okami, the gameplay is nothing short of perfection.

Why doesn't Yea Forums netplay this every now and then?
I want to love this game so badly but every time the main menu appears and reminds me that Top Ride exists my heart begins to wall itself off from the pain.
loved playing this with my sister when we were kids
this but unironically
I liked Top Ride
to add on to this, kirby air ride was our very first and last kirby game we've ever played. the only other games we played that featured kirby was the super smash bros series. the other kirby platformer games just doesnt look fun, but ive had so much fun with kirby air ride
this game was so fucking kino
used to play it at sleepovers
>spend 7 minutes in city trial building the perfect machine.
>event is a 10 second straight line drag race
no it could definitely have been better.
I wish there was a way to do a series of events after city trial
They could easily make this game 8 player and add in an online mode. This game is too good to be forgotten.
I cleared the checkboard. Never again.
What makes it so good?
Honest question.
I have it on my external drive among the whole GC library but haven't played yet because I have a shit ton of games to choose from.
Needs multiple City Trial maps, more carts/characters, more players playing at once, more events, and online. People would play this shit for days in a row.
Top ride is definitely an acquired taste but I grew to like it. Really, the standard air ride mode is the only one I don't really enjoy.
Air ride 2 when? City trial with 5 maps at least and new events mode.
I used to take turns playing this with my best friends and sister. I tried looking up some of the race maps on youtube but all I can find is videos of the city trial
It's the battle hunter of Gamecube. Oozing with kino, strange concept, perfection.
City Trial is just really fun to mess around in. It honestly borderlines on being a sandbox game at times. It's also really fun to challenge yourself and complete the checklist for every other mode. Aside from City Trial there is Topspin and the regular racing mode. Both are fun, but pale in comparison to City Trial. It's best played with friends, but still pretty good when you're by yourself. I still come back to it and give it another play through every few years.
How does this game really make use of the 3D space though? It would be better from a top-down 2D perspective.
As pitifully nostalgic as it sounds, you needed to have had played it in 2003 with your friends to enjoy it to the fullest. It's the quintessential sleepover game, a weird, perfect storm of chaotic multiplayer sandbox racing. The kind of game where you'd stay up until 3 a.m. trying to unlock the next challenge with your buds and finding all the hidden secrets. It's alright on it's own (there's no real singleplayer campaign and the actual racing is nothing special), so it's an MP game at heart. Maybe it's best to catch it on netplay if you ever have the chance.
best gamecube tech demo ive ever played.
im surprised we never got a touched up sequel man...
