i remember Yea Forums getting flooded with pokemon threads like you said, but i distinctly remember a combination of hgss threads like you said and b/w hype threads. I recall /vp/ or /tr/ or whatever being conceived a few months before the japanese release of b/w (like early to mid summer? I can't really remember) so yeah, both definetly played a role in moot's decision to make a Pokemon board.

Wrong game, newfag. Zoomers love pokemon GO and the likes of dephtless kusoges. BW was detracted only by Genwunners (Warning, Genwunners are not to be confused with Kantokids like myself, Kantokids are the one that played through all the generation - aknoledging their flaws sure - but never acritically shitting o everything that is not Gen 1. Truth is genwunners don't even like pokemon, most of them didn't even ay the game - or if they did - hardly completed it.
BW felt like a breath of fresh air for us oldfag when it came out. On top of that /vp/ wasn't and isn't reddit, we didn't hate BW unlike genwunners from Reddit and Yea Forums. It had it flaws, but today We consider gen 5 as the peak of pokemon all in all, expecially considering the decline that hit the franchise once the 3DS main games era has started.

Gen 4 and 5 are the peak Pokémon games to me and this is coming from someone who started with yellow

It's better than Johto but not on par with Sinnoh, making the right half inhabited by tentacool and wingull, plus a third water HM, sucked.

I enjoyed Black/White, the whole concept of using entirely new Pokemon was refreshing to me, for once it felt like I was playing a NEW Pokemon game instead of the same old rehashed bullshit.

How about the fact that we already knew everything about HGSS by then because it had been out for almost a year in Japan by then?
We were in a state where no one was talking about it but no one was playing it because it wasn't out in the west yet.

Meanwhile we had news of a new pokemon game during that period which always generated way more discussion than a remake.

I hated it back then, too, but that was before Gen VI came out, which was before new lows were reached with Gen VII.
