Debatable because the pacing in all the pokemon games is fucking garbage apart from gen 1 which barely has a story, I'll concede it's among the best though I feel SM has it beat because they actually did some character development for once

Maybe if they'd done more with the water routes. I honestly prefer gen 4 for the world alone but I know I'm an outlier there.

Some great route, special battle and city themes but the tracks you hear the most often are weak. Gen 5 takes music for me if only because the normal battle themes are so good and it used the music layers gimmick so fucking well. Those victory road players building up at every gate badge is my favourite moment in the series because of the music.

Next to 4 actually. This wasn't because 4's designs were bad, just that the cross gen evos and excessive legendaries overshadowed much of the new lines. Even other gens with lots of legends (5 and 7) did things to make their new mons memorable, 5 being a soft-reboot so naturally everything was "new" and 7 not only giving almost every damn thing a new sig move, but also attaching them to characters.

The story was melodramatic trash and the villains were a joke. I agree with the designs though my opinion is heavily subjective and based off of nostalgia.
