They're right, you know
They're right, you know
Based modder dabbing on the paypigs.
This.
imagine being a modder or cartoon porn maker on patreon and dumb fucking paysheep line up to get fleeced every month. damn i picked the wrong job :(
Stupid people get to much money
Nobody should live in poverty, but retards should not have enough money for this shit
thanks for the money, dummies
>we don't owe the community anything
except for, y'know
18 thousand dollars
I think they may have forgotten about that part
Todd wouldn't like this because he doesn't get a portion of that 18k
well yeah of course they are right, people freely gave them money
They all bought themselves a valuable lesson.
The very idea of video game communities is so cringeworthy. Only faggots with no friends and no lives would think that it's cool.
Can you imagine getting paid to do what you love, doing shit all every day and one retard in your team that couldn't shut the fuck up on le reddit is going to ruin it all.
Right, and the people who donate to them don't owe the modders anything. The donators are free to stop donating at any time.
Based. Retards that pay upfront for unfinished products deserve this.
>wanting a healthy economy and a happy population is communism
Get real, Amerishart
>Actually giving money to anyone on Patreon
Why?
Unless you're just donating to get the mod so you can upload it for free for others online it's a complete waste of time and money.
>idiots with too much money giving it away is somehow a bad thing
When did this bullshit start? I remember making Shogun 2 mods back in 2011-12 and the idea of getting paid for it was unheard of. You just made the mods because it was fun.
>falling for the patreon scam
Just gonna put this here: If you go back a few months, you could pay 1$ to get access to the closed beta. Looking at the numbers on their patreon, you'll notice there's nearly as much backers as there is income.
~17k retard didn't bother cancelling their subscriptions.
The "Skyrim Together" team scrapped the entire codebase and are starting over from scratch, so they can keep raking in patreon bucks.
>pay for thing
>thing doesn't do what you want them to do
As long as the consumer is getting what they paid for, they can't say shit to the producer/creator.
It's like:
>buy a car with no engine
>salesman tells you this car has no engine
>sign the contract
>pay
>car doesn't start
>get mad
That's why i only create for my own fun and interests. Offering anything to people is a mistake.
>paying modders
that's what wrong with the modding community honestly.
>Give donation
>Demand something in return
The modders aren't wrong but seem kinda like assholes. If people have a problem, just stop donating. Its too late to get back what they already gave
Its not even this far. They are just giving donations to a team, there is no contract or anything official to hold them to anything
Patreon seems like the absolute worst way to finance a project with a concrete end goal.
The model of getting paid by the month rewards being as slow as possible to collect cash every month.
Holy shit, it's even worse, then:
>give homeless guy a dollar
>get mad he doesn't swear his life and loyalty to you for all cosmic eternity
This is comedy gold, honestly.
>They are still making over 14K a month
>from 14k+ people
What a fucking world
And what are you going to do about them? Take their money away? Tax them higher? It won't work no natter what you would want to do.
LOL, lets aee if these assholes can still act smug once their cashflow dries. Their patreon bucks used to be double but now it seems to be lowering and lowering. Keep it up!
It used to be twice as much but it seems to be lowering at a steady rate. I say its affecting them alright.
didn't these fucker actually finish the mod and then refused to release it?
>team lost 4k just because one idiot couldn't keep himself from posting stupid shit
If I was on that team i'd be livid with that guy
They are. That is the essence of the Patreon business model. You are not buying a product. You're willfully giving someone money with no expectations for yourself, and they owe you nothing in return. Take it to a courtroom and they will tell you the same. You are supporting them. Not a project they're working on. And you are entitled to nothing in return.
It's a good idea for the person being supported to show his appreciation and work towards the goal that people are supporting him to move towards, but there's no law or rule that says he has to.
it seems it's mostly people donating 1$ and just forgot about it
Crazy, I'd keep that shit running for years, until I hit like 5k and just made shit release, and patch it when I got enough shekels and whine how I need to take real job to pay mortrage and shit
If you offer to do a thing and someone pays you to do that thing you owe them to do the thing you said you'd do.
Because not doing so will result in a very deserved lynching.
It's also been proven that they stole source code from another mod. These guys are shitbags from the onset.
Patreon is ruining capitalism and consumerism. Fucks who paid him that much deserved to get ripped off. Person who made the Patreon deserves to be castrated for turning capitalism upside down in this glorified hosting site for ponzie schemes.
lawsuit inc...bu-bu- patreon, nah they gonna get it fuckem
Most people still do. This is normal. Modders are mostly casuals with just enough skills to make a mod, that don't care about recognition and don't want to be obligated to maintain the mod and update it when the game updates it. Only a tiny portion who make stupidly big mods (rightfully) think it'd be nice to get some money on the side to buy some beer, commission some art, or upgrade their equipment so they can work more efficiently.
this sort of shit funds 95% of "modern art".
deal with it.
That's what happens when SKSE authors get their attack-dog lawyers to send you a Cease & Desist notice because you stole their source code.
FPBP
Exactly this, it’s like getting paid hourly vs. paid per job. If you got the money at the end you’d be much more likely to do the job well and quick so you could move onto the next one, if you get paid time then you’re going to make it worth (the time it took)
Now make a food analogy
That’s the tricky thing about Patreon, you’re not paying anybody to do anything; you’re supporting their endeavors by floating them money. You can’t sue over disappointment
You pay them to work on something, you're not prepurchasing a product. Even if they never release something, you still got what you paid for: the people being able to work on something thanks to your contributions.
number one rule of mod
NEVER EVER PAY FOR A MOD
it completly ruins it. mods are so great because the people making it know they won't get any money from it so all the work and dedication is from the heart.
ONCE you put money in the equation people think differently. they will say "this is cool, but i will add it later for more money"
fuck paid mods and the people who pay them
>he doesn’t make homeless kneel and swear an oath of fealty before giving them heroin money
Not gonna make it
and that's why paid mods are an awful idea
And the dev would be right, Patreon is not the same as Kickstarter, they don't owe people shit.
Patreon is for giving money to someone as incentive.
The only obligation may be a moral one
WTF is wrong with me that I can't get into "Skyrim" for either PC or xbox? Is it just a great emplate for modding or am I pissing something in the game itself? I've heard dudes talk about modding Witcher 3 so that Ciri, Triss, and Yen can have 3 ways and Geralt can bang them all at the same time, but why is modding Skyrim such a huge thing?
in skyrim you can mod in NPCs that look like geralt ciri triss and yen and bang them and get them pregnant
He's a cunt but he's right.
Because you can play dress up, fuck, and take pictures. The game isn't very good and unfortunately mods can't fix that.
wow imagine paying for mods. This is the future you retarded zoomer gaymers chose.
idiots need to be protected from con artists
>paying modders
kek
I think it's moraly wrong to like a game that is only good if you Mod the shit out of it.
>They're right, you know
Unironically this. There was no contract, no promise, and no actual payment. Just donations. If people wanted something owed to them, they should have actually spent their money wisely instead of throwing it at random people on the internet and then acting shocked and appalled that their donations were treated as fucking donations.
Based
Fpbp
>we don't owe the community anything
>18k a month
yes, you fucking do.
Patreon results in literally the biggest narcissists on the planet, it's stellar.
No, they don't. They owe what the reward tiers are and nothing more. Patreon is a glorified donation otherwise.
He's right but he's also retarded for saying it aloud.
I donate $5 a month to a podcast about a card game I play. Every month I get an alt art that is usually pretty cool. Ones that I don't want I sell to locals for 5 or 6 bucks.
I hate all Skyrim modders, but he's right.
sauce? I want to read all the butthurt people.
I mean morally they do, legally they don't. I know taking advantage of retards is the oldest American pastime, but that doesn't make it right.
I live in a 3rd world shithole, can someone explain me this shit? why do people like throwing so much money to patreon or donate money to streamers?
I just don't get it.
The modder is right.
He never forced a gun to those patrons' heads. He never promised them a paid product or service. Just put up a way for people to donate out of their own free will and good understanding.
If you put money in a homeless guy's hat while he sits there with a saxophone, he's not entitled to play for you.
>Does he owe you anything?
You pay him money expecting a product. Yes he fucking does.
Todd wouldn't care, because if more people are creating content for Skyrim it means more people are buying his game and he gets to keep coasting on the same gravy train instead of making an actually good sequel.
I remember mods being a "for fans by fans" thing, when did it all became about the money?
I 100% guarantee the mod will never be finished. It's the fate of every single Patreon backed development of any kind.
Faggots like these know that as soon as they deliver, their monthly income will plummet to virtually zero, so they release tiny updates every now and then to keep people subscribed. Just look what happened to the WiiU emulator as soon as BotW became playable.
Avoid Patreon for projects like this like the plague. They are a scam, and an incredibly profitable one.
When it became easier to pay for things online. In this case, patreon.
The day valve made modders realize idiots are willing to pay for pretty much any cosmetic imaginable.
not if it was worded as a donation
Guys?
Modders don't owe anybody shit until they are paid, then they owe shit. That is why the modding scene tries to avoid paid methods. Fucker sunk his own logic.
Todd wouldn't care.
The community doesn't owe them anything either.
>18k in someone else's debt
>"I don't own anyone anything"
why do skyrim modders have the mentality of disgruntled children?
Yeah, people forming bonds based on their shared interests is so fucking stupid.
Look, user, I just want the government to keep its hands off my grandpa's Medicare and repeal Obamacare so I can use the ACA.
>Is it just a great emplate for modding or am I pissing something in the game itself?
No, you're not missing something in the game itself. On its own, Skyrim isn't great. Its best feature is that it's a good template for modding.
>why is modding Skyrim such a huge thing?
Because there's literally nothing else like it. Bethesda basically has a whole genre all to themselves. Despite all its problems, Skyrim is still the best modding platform for fantasy action RPGs.
How many of these cartoonist/sfm porn creators actually make a living income from Patreon? I can see it being sustainable combined with a part-time minimum wage job but it can't be financially securable by itself right?
Even unofficial paid mods are a disaster.
>patreon
yeah they don't owe them anything
Can't you just pirate the mods?
That might be harder to do with a multiplayer mod.
I still don't get the whole SKSE drama, it's a free fucking thing, why were they even mad about "muh mod copyright" like a bunch of retards?
This, giving money to some =/= buying a product. They aren't entitled to anything.
I dunno, gonna guess on this one, probably wrong but the guys were most likely pissed these other guys are making money for their work.
porn makers can make upwards of tens of thousands every month for a game that by design will never be finished as long as it has a decent groundwork.
More than you'd expect, a lot of them are one man operations and they usually aren't even doing that much, but pull in several thousand per month. More than enough to cover a single person in a lower-middle class lifestyle assuming they aren't in some expensive shithole with a high cost of living.
Even then, as with all things, 90% of such people are only pulling three digits or barely making over a grand per month. Usually just a matter of visibility more than the product, there are people who make way more interesting shit, but you'll still get someone like Sakimichan making $70,000 a month putting out softcore samefaces put through five hundred photoshop filters just because it gets spammed everywhere.
I wouldn’t feel the same way if I paid, but that’s because if you did pay you’re a retard. There’s a reason mods have been free for such a long time.
They're fucking donations
Should all african children be enslaved to Americans now because of donations?
Lmao really? What happened?
It's not really "muh mod copyright", it's "We don't want our work used for paid mods." It's the same reason fore got pissed off that the paid mod for fishing used his animation framework.
Isn't this the mod that steals code from SKSE?
it's not really paid mods though, they setup a patreon to fund development if people wanted and later on changed it to offset the server costs that would come as a result
that just seems like they're butt hurt is all
Between patreon and commissions you can actually make a comfortable living with shit art skills if you do porn and/or cater to niche fetishes/degenerates. It's crazy how people are willing to pay for half decent smut.
Where do you think you are?
Not all that surprising, though, because most mainstream porn is awful.
>paying for mods
they deserve it
