Modders are mostly casuals with just enough skills to make a mod, that don't care about recognition and don't want to be obligated to maintain the mod and update it when the game updates it. Only a tiny portion who make stupidly big mods (rightfully) think it'd be nice to get some money on the side to buy some beer, commission some art, or upgrade their equipment so they can work more efficiently.
