Great game, but am I supposed to just play levels over and over again until a really good weapon falls on my lap? Everything seems so random and luck based in regards to weapons.

You can craft stronger weapons by fusing together two weaker weapons. There are in-depth guides available if you want to truly look into it although there will still be some RNG involved in getting the perfect weapon.

First time using the internet? Also, not necessarily, you usually use the better weapon you get at the moment and experiment with weapon fusion to try to get better stuff. Also, the higher the difficulty, the better drops you'll get. I think my main weapon ended being a drop (Crescent Shot iirc?) because it had incredibly good stats and skills.

Is the heart converter a good way to analize how good a weapon is? My best weapon so far sells for 2000 hearts, and I have trouble finding/fusing weapons that can get close to that selling value.

To be honest I don't remember, it has been years since I last played it. As the other user said, check some weapon crafting guides so you can get better routes. You also have to decide what kind of weapon you prefer the most, if clubs, staves, palms or bows, for example.

Yes or have a friend with street pass to get good weapons. But honestly, just get a good fast Claw weapon and you’ll beat everything easy.
I would kill for a HD remake for the Switch, with better controls and the options to switch between weapons.

Those are boys. I bought the game again about a year ago after losing my original cart and all the games had bots in them outside the 2 or 3 players who were in each match.
As for weapons, you really want ones with skills that suit them. My main weapon had been an auron bow with boosted dash charge attacks and dash sprays, extra range and homing, I forget what else. Was extremely well rounded and did great homing and damage at mid to long range. I think it was a +7 which was real good. Every class combo always makes a specific kind of weapon class, so just keep that in mind. If you play a lot on high intensity you will just get shit and combining will eventually get you good shit, inherit the right things, etc.
This game was kino, especially with Yea Forums. Then after 2 weeks everyone went back to mariokart 7. It is a shame, back then it was really easy to get more loot. Everyone had great weapon om like a week.
