THIS is what I get for falling for Yea Forums again

Just finished it 2 weeks ago, played the multiverse edition (vanilla ++). Absolutely one of the best games I've played, minus the awful combat (at least for the first third if the game). Magic is rad af

I don't understand the complaints about combat.
It's extremely easy to get very high AP and damage via STR/DEX boots and gear bonuses.
Mages can just cast spells as you don't even spend anything but CP to learn them.
If anything techies are the ones who got left out, same for gunners.

game's better than fallout

child porn is currency in this game? what the actual fuck.

That's child's play compared to one of the quests in the game.

hi sseth

does it have something to do with human sacrifices to gain more magic power?

>reach level 30
>basically just walking around
>took me literallt 5 months in game to find Ashbury since I'm a stinky no train mage
>kept walking along the coast, out of all these months I barely found any areas
>at least I have teleport now
>find dog at level 30, he's level 12
>my party is just Virgil, Dog and Familiar
>Magnus died early game in Tarant
Where do I get another party member? I have one slot and if I keep going they'll lag behind forever.
Sogg is 2 only even if I upped CHA to 9.
There was a healer girl who denied me for being a mage.
Meanwhile the mage guy denied me for being too good aligned.

There is raven she is about level 30ish you meet her at the elfs place

There's Magnus and Gar in Tarant (good aligned). Then there's Vollinger (Dernholm), Torian (Ancient Temple, this location gets marked when asking for rumors in Ashbury) and Geoffrey (Ashbury) for evil players.

There will be even more as you unlock more of the game's world.

I don't remember very well but it was beyond retarded. No fun at all, cheesy as fuck, broken, some paths/skills are beyond god like and some others are lower than garbage, and certain characters like that dog make it even more retarded. Not like the plot was exceptionally great either, I dropped it after I got bored cheesing the sewers

So just like Fallout 2, then.

The balance is utterly fucked to the point it's unfun.

Melee is merely alright except one of the first blueprints you unlock is literally the second best melee weapon in the game and electrics also unlocks a ridiculously good DEX ring, and you can easily fit your entire party with them. Magic is piss easy and requires nearly no investment whatsoever for massive returns in both combat prowess and utility spells, and it's also directly in conflict with the game's overall story of science being more accessible to common folk whereas magic is supposedly difficult to master. Even if you don't go for Harm cheese. Gunslinger builds are absolutely horrendous and require massive investments in several important combat stats and crafting skills so you can get even half-decent guns, and when it comes to science crafting in general the blueprints are fucking randomized rolls gotten from merchants and require unfun scrounging of materials. The EXP system in general is no fun since even trying to play a smooth talker or sciency support crafter gets assfucked due to EXP gains being mainly based on how much damage your main character personally inflicts. Also a random beaten up dog is somehow the best companion in the entire game, and companion AI in general is ass when it comes to spellcasters other than healers.

Arcanum seriously needs a remake that overhauls the combat balance and AI from the ground up .

>Charged Ring
>Balanced Sword
What are some other especially good tech skill tree abilities?
I plan on three runs, mage which is current, dumb melee no tech no magic and then a techie run, so I could use the knowledge.

one word bub
gnomes

Charged Rings aren't that good, they give only +1 DX to neutral characters and 0 to mages. Might as well just buy Gloves of Dexterity from that elven trader in Ashbury.

I mean for my tech run.

Nah I think he's referring to the forced half-ogre child labour quest on a remote island that has to do with (((gnomes))) and the cooperating (((media))) trying to hide the truth and succeeding in the end.

i meant forced half ogre child birth with kidnapped women (including royal ones)

>Melee is merely alright
Really? I gave up on the game because my melee focussed character was wrecking everything.

without half ogre dreamers our society will not survive

>multiverse edition
the what now

Yeah, if you go all-in melee and have the right weapons that are rather easy to unlock for low science investment it's really powerful and probably the least painful way of drudging through the game's combat, especially since you can also fit your dumb muscle party with the same weapons. It also keeps your EXP gains going throughout since the protagonist player character personally dealing more DMG means more EXP for the entire party. IIRC even the official guidebook suggests you to play a melee-focused half-orc if you're a beginner, and you can easily minmax it even further by making Beauty a dump stat since it's literally useless if you have even half-decent CHA. As long as you're okay roleplay wise with literally every character starting the conversation with the fantasy equivalent of "you're an ugly nigger" before you convince them to reconsider.

>paying for (((gypsies))) to identify every single enchanted item you find

Attached: jan.png (210x330, 127K)

Who the fuck can I sell stacks of arrows to?

>gather all gnomes inside a room
>cast Poison Vapour and Magelock the doors

And then you'd be utterly reviled by the Tarant media and literally Banished by those recluse mage masters.
REALLY makes you think

General goods shops, don't confuse them with junk shops.

And denied of yet another interesting companion because >good alignment
So far, denied of one due to mage, and two due to good alignment.

You can bipass recruitment limitations and avoid followers leaving your party with both 20 CHA bonus and Master Persuation. It's a large investment, but it's interesting to make normally impossible parties.

pyrotechnic axe is basically balanced swords on steroids

I still wonder, how is it that what may very well be the single best steampunk work, is a videogame?

Is the game that good or is the genre that crappy?

whenever I see npcs reminiscing about the old wars back when tech was not a thing and dragons still roamed the land I find myself longing for the fantasy only version of old Arcanum instead of the current game

>including royal ones
oh no, not the royals! How dare those filthy creatures make them suffer the same fate as commoners

hey at least you can help orc hitler get elected
he'll put those gnomes in their place eventually

Pyrotechnic bow with double shot expert.

:'(

can you do an all kill run in this

The first time I got into combat in this game I boggled at how inadequate the controls and interface were and just quit the game entirely. I've played some REAL shit games before, but very rarely am I so immediately put-off by design flaws. I know there's a lot to love about Arcanum, but fuck that.

Why did the Old Gods and All Father let an uprising religion of a literal mortal usurp their worshippers?

Attached: Arcanum 2019-05-12 20-25-12-54.jpg (1280x720, 199K)

and fuck you

Yes except for maybe the silver lady and nasrudin I think

Molotov Cocktails. If I remember right, they took 0 AP to use in turn-based mode.

>Pious All-Father Chads vs godless virgins

So really, if the old gods actually bestow you with tangible benefits from worship, why would peasants and such shift to a literallywho religion with where the being that's worshipped doesn't do jackshit for you?

I tried this out the other day. Couldn't get very far past the crashed Zeppelin. Did a gun build. Didn't work out so great. Guns aren't beginner friendly I'm guessing?

Any tips? I really want to play it. The setting seems interesting.

I tried playing a charismatic gunman my first time. I ended up just standing by and getting cucked by my companions as they destroyed everything for me. Sorry I don't really have any good advice.

Gun builds aren't beginner friendly as you so witnessed.
If you want a smoother time go with magic or melee.

Most of the bonuses are kinda small to make a difference in anyone's average life. Technology is the thing that's giving benefits to everyone with much effort.
The All-Father blessing can make someone a demigod, but how many people solved the big riddle in the entire history of Arcanum? Two?

Age of Legends > Current Arcanum of Steamshit

Good guns show up mid to late-game. You can get them early if someone spoils that kind of information for you, but that's gay.
Go melee early game, even mage builds need a bit of melee backup at first, at least until you get enough power to fuck shit up.

The Age of Legends was every a typical fantasy setting you see everywhere.
