Isn't that a good thing? It means you're working out.

VR thread?

I've been really trying to clear my first Expert+ song, but I just can't quite get there. I get close on some of them, but my endurance/focus gives out halfway through, or some pattern messes with me just enough that I can't recover in time.
Shit's tough, and I'm not feeling up to getting in VR every day when my Index is coming in a little more than a month. Fuck the Vive, it's so uncomfortable.
Might even get a Quest, too. Untethered VR sounds comfy as fuck.

fc?

Full combo. Means never missing, even once.

I think the way some of the maps are made definitely causes some kind of damage to your arms because youre twisting you arms in ways to hit certain notes that are definitely not normal

Isn't OSU baby's first rhythm game? Or has that changed now that it isn't the most popular?

people playing osu are people interested in rhythm games
people playing beat saber are people interested in vr who just play this because theres nothing else to play

>Hands
No, it's not carpal tunnel, it's exercise.

Or people who dont find mouse clicking to be too exciting

I AM GONNA KILL YOU! I AM GOING TO KILL YOU AND GET TO BE THE GUARDIANS OF SHIELDS!!! YOU'RE GOING TO BE THE GUARDIANS OF SHIELDS BY DOING THAT! YOU'RE GOING TO BE THE GUARDIANS OF SHIELDS! GET AWAY FROM ME NOW!!!!!

Fuck off

I actually stopped playing osu because I got so invested in beatsaber. The game play is simply more enjoyable.

Good post

I know how that is, but i don't play a lot of Beat Saber.

My arcade is getting DDR A20 soon

I'm in the awkward stage of slowly finding expert level beatmaps to be too easy but struggling for an hour just to pass the first minute of an expert+ beatmap

The absolute state of saberbabs

Attached: Untitled.jpg (745x319, 31K)

Beat Saber has charts that are literally dangerous to play because your heart rate will go too high

I am, I'm Can't stand the vive hardware. Need analog sticks, and there's really no other option for upgrading PCVR right now. I'm too autistic to settle for the Rift S.

I can imagine the shitposting when the price was revealed. I wasn't on Yea Forums at the time, was there a lot of people laughing about >1000$?

I feel this.

A good way to ease yourself into it is by playing expert songs with the speed up modifier. Or expert + slowed down, but that's nowhere near as gratifying

Back in my day we played Stepmania and flash rhythm games

How hard is it to map stuff and do I need beat saber installed to do it?

Feel like it would be fun to do while on my laptop, mapping songs I like but haven't been mapped yet

only if you're american

Yes there was user, plus the lack of games that utilise the knuckles

I can beat a couple with the speed modifier. The ghost notes really throw a wrench into shit though

Maybe you don't realize Beat Saber is played with arms, not fingers?

been on expert+ for ages, no issues for the most part
some custom maps are high grade bullshit though, a bunch of notes put together one after the other for the sake of arm-wailing "difficulty" is not fun
others are way too easy, there's really no consistency

Same, but at the same time he's a comfy VR guy just in it for the fun and content making with views and following being a tertiary thing.

Thought so. I was surprised by the price, too. Good thing I don't need new base stations, so I actually ended up paying less for the Index than I did for the Vive in 2016.
The lack of immediate support for Knuckles is simultaneously baffling and understandable - nobody's going to build a game around them, but they're a big ask for people upgrading. I bought in because I need an analog stick, *badly*, and the idea of not having to actually hold on to a controller all the time sounds amazing. It's more of a UX upgrade than a new platform, but it's 300$.

The lack of a real, open, web-based metaverse is what bums me out. All the autists who would drive growth of that kind of platform are stuck in VRChat's proprietary weaboo purgatory like flies in honey, and their SDK's features are pitiful. JanusVR came way too early and died in its infancy, and Mozilla's WebVR standard is nowhere near full adoption. Other projects like Sansar just aren't there yet. High Fidelity just laid off a quarter of their staff and are "refocusing" away from VR.
I just hope that Facebook doesn't crack the Metaverse before anyone else, because if they do, we're fucked.

This is 404 too.

That's the one that is completely defunct now I believe. There is an entirely different installer avalible on the subreddit

What this user said. Go download Beat Saber Mod Manager

Alright, but where do I install the custom songs now?
The last installer showed my songs in this menu here.

Attached: what.jpg (1520x744, 124K)

In game

Will the Knuckles controllers work with the Vive headset/sensors?

They're all interchangeable, I have no idea what the benefits of the new base stations are though

There is a menu in the mod tab of the game assuming you have the mod installed

Checking everyday hoping they ship early.
Like they did with the controller, apparently.

I think they can handle a couple objects to track, but upgrading to them is pointless for the vast majority of people.

The biggest difference is the production cost so valve can sell them for cheaper

i've got a vr a week ago and so far I can only manage expert levels
expert+ just seem too chaotic to me, like the moves seem ridiculously unnatural and its throwing me off

>osu
>mouse clicking
You're playing the wrong osu

The main advantage that Valve claimed for years is that they're simpler and cheaper to manufacture, though that isn't stopping them from selling them for $150 a pop.

Apart from that they supposedly have a fov over the play area and you can use 3 or more together, although that's basically useless for anyone playing in their living room. Also I think I read some tracking information is actually encoded in the IR lasers themselves, though I don't know what the practical upshot of that is.

Not him but it's to be expected. Beat Saber has a steep price niche hardware requirement. Where Osu is easy to run and free. Both are good games. I actually cannot play Osu anymore because of Beatsaber. Before that though I couldn't play Osu anymore because of McOsu.

Seen this question a lot around. It says right on the store page, IIRC. Everything works with everything, except the original Vive controllers don't work with the 2.0 base stations.

The 2.0 base stations have a wider FOV, support up to four in one space, can be used to delineate multiple play spaces (like in a location-based experience like The Void), and have better range for larger play spaces.
Also- they don't need that weird cord you could hook up between the 1.0 stations.

The 1.0 stations don't need the weird cord either.

it all depends on if its a well made expert+ or a "flick your wrists or else" expert+, in which case i don't bother

Should I buy an Index or stick with my Rift?

Attached: 1527780961374.png (371x353, 148K)

Alright, seems to be working. Bit different UI, but the sons are there.
Thanks, lads!

Attached: mum.jpg (618x579, 37K)

Are you ready to upgrade for a thousand dollars?

The index is definitely a better headset than the Rift, that's for sure

It's best used in racing and flight sims

Attached: ultrawings.webm (960x540, 2.85M)

>Hello, person who paid $1000 for hardware on the promise of big games that were never released. Would you like to pay another $1000 for extra hardware on the promise of those same games that we totally will release (just not right now)?

Nah, not for me. Hard pass until Valve release their promised big budget VR games.
Right not 50% of VR games are demos, the other 50% are utter jank. Only maybe 10, if that, quality products for the platform.
WE NEED SOFTWARE, NOT HARDWARE.

>asking random people on the internet unfamiliar with your use case whether you should spend $1000 to upgrade to an unreleased headset none of us have done more than read the publicly available specs of.
sound like a great idea go for it

You're right, that's why I said "could". I don't even remember what the point of it was - some kind of synchronization that I haven't seemed to need.

Are you swimming in money? If not, you should stick with your Rift. Everything's going to be compatible with it for the foreseeable future, and you'll get the highest quality AA titles made with your device in mind. The Index is going to be the best VR hardware available, but the difference is not a 1000$ difference unless you're a huge enthusiast.
Why are you thinking of upgrading?

Any good Freelancer spacesim yet? The type where you actually use your movement controllers and the ship's UI in front of you to trade, move and fight in space, and build up on your ship and cargo over time.

Here's a slight upgrade for the strap. Gonna cost you $1000 though

really? i normally just kinda tire out but nothing burns really. there's a flow to the way notes move, usually doesn't require waggling to get good.

E:D? Also no man's sky is releasing a VR mode this summer.

I'm ranked top 100 in the UK.

AMA

No Man's Sky will be that game soon.

This is the first song to ever make me actually sore

Now that sounds good. Will they release it with the MMO-like multiplayer thing they promised?
I never played the OG game, since the shitstorm came before my potential purchase and scared me, even though I liked the concept. I'll surely revisit if in VR if the reviews say its technically functional.

We all wish, dude. If E:D isn't what you're looking for (it certainly isn't for me), then join the club.
I just want something with actual personality and more to see besides large rocks, where I can get off my ship and explore/interact with people.
If Chris Roberts wasn't so fucking delusionally ambitious, we'd already have SC by now.

Forgot about this, actually. The space stations are kind of lacking, and the multiplayer maybe isn't what I'm looking for, but I'm getting it the day Beyond drops.
Yeah, the multiplayer and VR are two of the three pillars of Beyond. They haven't told us what the third is.

Where do you check your rank and does it take custom songs into account?

scoresaber.com

99% custom songs

use your wrist movement more than lifting your whole arm.

That's the pussy way to play though

When is the Index coming out again??

we are his muscles?

Is this porn

Sadly no.

No, they have, it's just that genelets complain because it makes their widdle tummies hurt :(((

Redpill me on the cheapest way to play this game, I need to work out and only vidya will motivate me.

Attached: hold me back Ahmed.jpg (498x369, 61K)

No way Valve are stupid enough to make their games require the Index and not work on OR. No fucking way they are that dumb.

Honestly just throw on no-fail mode and try to keep up. It's more about keeping your head still and focusing on the note reading while your arms flail about and try to keep up.

I wish

Attached: vr lunch.jpg (3024x5376, 2.69M)

same thing, but with the vive... at least i only need to upgrade

One of the biggest Index games, Boneworks, is compatible with Oculus. The issue is that it won't utilize some of the finer functions

>You don't "work out" your wrists
There are two types of Beat Saber track. Faggot tryhard shit with wrist movements and based dancing tracks that gets you swinging those fat arms and dancing.

Lenovo Explorer

What are your favorite dancing tracks? I find Kpop to be pretty good usually.

Uptown Funk is a perfect example of a good dance track.

Rockefeller Street is a classic

i really wanna fuck around with VR but im a poorfag. are there any decent headsets that are relatively inexpensive compared to everything else?

The one you posted, Reality Check Through the Skull, and One Hope with the speed up modifier youtu.be/Z11UehUstiw

I also beat all but a couple of the other vanilla tracks on expert+ which I'm pretty proud of since I find the built in songs more difficult for the most part

Ah yes, Beat Saber. The game that keeps running worse with each update for some explicable reason on PC, despite being buttery on PS4 and Quest. I love the menu lag and first-note stutter + random 10 second long fps dips every time I boot the game up.

Lenovo Explorer goes down to like 150 bucks sometimes

I'm still trash at this game

not a fan of the "randomly swing your arms to hit these notes" style songs but I love shit like Gangnam Style and Rasputin that make you dance along to the song, are there any other songs or custom charts out there like that?

>hate weeb/nightcore/osu songs
>too good to enjoy expert maps anymore
>barely any good expert+ maps that aren't weebshit
Life is suffering

Attached: he snack.gif (240x240, 1.63M)

read a few posts above you

youtu.be/ij7PMCdWER8

The middle part still fucks me over sometimes

It's Not Unusual

If only you knew how bad things really were. The scoresaber team, the turbo autists who determine which maps get ranked, pretty much exclusively only rank weeb songs. They claim that they want to diversify but their weebness has created a culture where only weeb maps get made in hopes of getting ranked.

Attached: swordnado1.webm (640x400, 2.84M)

Can anyone get expert or higher with WMR? I can't do it and don't know if it is because I am bad at the game or if the tracking is subpar

Why are the custom songs so fucking autistic? Fucking red walls, I can't teleport.

Michael Jackson's Thriller is the perfect example of that

also check out the mappers Heisenberg and Ruckus, they make good challenging maps that arent weeb shit.

M83 - Midnight City
Haddaway - What is Love?
Caravan Palace - Lone Digger

A bunch of others but I'd have to put on my headset.

I use my Lenovo for expert plus, and while it's fucked me over a handful of times, the songs are very much possible with wmr.

Those two are probably the only good expert+ mappers left.

Hesignburg released like 5-6 90's songs in one week which were all great.

Any song with red walls that make me physically take a step in one direction can fuck right off. I hate having to move my feet at all while playing, it throws me off way too hard

I don't see the problem with using sticks to move, it shouldn't be stopping developers from making good games. Something else apparently is.

Sounds like I need more practice then. Damn, I need a VR system for this summer. Had to return mine and never got another.

dude just move your head LMAO

That's not always an option

I was able to do expert+ after 3 days of owning it.
Now I'm ranked top 1000 on scoresaber without even trying to grind points or only play ranked songs(though I do try to play new songs a lot).

Attached: 1525662657683.gif (540x304, 2.9M)

Then you're playing bad maps. The good practice design rules mandate no walls that make a player physically move.

>all these faggots caring about scoring
>when the ranking itself is managed by a colossal faggot
Even VR have these niggers?

Attached: 9075832.jpg (348x247, 20K)

this bitch is getting accuracy of 44%, which means he is barely moving his arms at all

he is unfit

youtu.be/7NXeVjYs6TA

Aren't only the people who signed up for the ranking site ranked anyway? How is that accurate in any way?

Not unless they show me the software.
Don't get me wrong, it's an AMAZING piece of hardware and I actually have the dosh for it. But I will not shell a 1000$ for something that does not have even a single piece of software that actually leverages those beefy specs and awsome controllers.

For a 1000 dollarydoos I can get both a Quest for trips and parties, Rift S for home VR porn, and still have 200$ leftover for a hooker to blow me IRL as I fuck my virtual waifu.

Shit just makes no sense.

ARMSWINGER YOU FAGGOTS

Playing VR is healthier than normal controller playing, and some VR games are actual sport games like tennis and some boxing games where you are literally playing a sport disguised as a video game

Creed or Beat Saber for exercise?

I played RE7 just fine

That's only comfortable for casual shit like museum simulators or really slow paced games

Playing something like Doom or Serious Sam with arm swinging would be a fucking nightmare. For real.

...Go back where?

Same for me. Well, link related made me want

H3 is still slow as fuck compared to other shooters.

Have any of you power players of Beat Saber seen improvements in arm strength or weight loss if you've been playing the game daily?

What? it's only slow if you're slow. if you're talking about the enemy AI, it got updated and they're now bullshit harder and faster

Attached: dom sim.webm (1240x700, 1.54M)

arm strength yeah, but it was mostly the gym :^)

it won't help much with arm strength since you aren't loading with any extra weight, but it will help with agility and hand eye coordination.

if you're playing difficult enough songs and your heartrate goes up you'll burn some extra calories but the food you consume has the biggest impact on weight loss

Slight but very slight weight loss. I'm also cutting back on what I eat though so I'm sure that's part of it.

Beatsaber really just amounts to some solid upper body cardio. It is helpful, but can't substitute a full workout. There is a calorie tracker I use that says I usually burn about 300 calories per session which isn't too bad I suppose

There's a calorie tracker mod that they claim is within like 3% of calories burned for an average weight player.
I've been using it as a morning workout since I always hate leaving in the morning to run and I've been losing weight though I'm also reducing calories.

For arm swing to make sense, it really needs to be built into the balance of the game. It should be similar to a sprint button where it isn't used constantly and intentionally lowers precision of whatever else you may be doing with your arms. It definitely has no place in the games you mentioned or anything intended to be fast paced.

I liked that I was able to use real table tennis tutorial videos to get better at a video game. However, I can't tell if the game is overly forgiving, or I simply more willing to attempt tougher shots without concerns of having to chase the ball and annoy other people when I miss.

there is no workout that will beat bad diet
but other than that you wont get arm strength, to build muscles you need to lift stuff heavy enough to go to at least 70% (if I remember correctly) of your max strength so you muscles tear and then rebuild, you aren't doing that while playing beat saber
