I must disagree with you. I liked all of them. It still baffles me how to get a perfect setup for all the super high rate crafting materials available. I refuse to look at a guide goddamn it.
SD3 was indeed the height of the series though, I won't argue that, but to me they're all comfy and enjoyable.
Another thing we could use is more SAGA games. I'd like to see an actual, finished version of Saga Frontier with the original artstyle and everything. It was a gorgeous game even half finished and rushed as it was, and had tons of replayablity since you can make anyone do anything and there's no wrong way to play. Games now could take a few lessons from that shit.

The PS3's CELL processor makes hardware BC difficult at best. It's possible they could manage software BC like RCPS3, but I'm no developer.
As for PS1, PS2 and PS4 games not having BC, it's likely because Sony wants to resell the games on the PS store.
Holy shit this gen was pretty mediocre and if next gen is just this gen but with better graphics I will not be buying a PS5
