Help me out Yea Forums. I'm looking for some good tactics games.
Doesn't really matter whether they're turn based or real time and I'm open to all settings/themes

I'm looking for something like Battle Brothers where you can really play around with your units, they carry over and get better over the course of your campaign and with an interesting and hopefully deep gameplay mechanics.

Also general tactics thread I guess. I never see any love for this genre on Yea Forums.
Some games I've already played and enjoyed (and would recommend)
>Battle Brothers
>Jagged Alliance 2
>Silent Storm
>Men of War Assault Squad 2

Battle Brothers is good but lacks variety, you pretty much see it all in one campaign.

this, I hate it when the only difference between units is shitty random modifiers such as "-10% accuracy because this unit is shortsighted for some reason" that are all very inconsequential

How's the modding scene for BB?

Expeditions conquistador/viking

you could try some obscure but good and unique russian games

and 7.62

Nu Xcom enemy unkown+expansion and jack it on long war. Vanila is good but the mod adds so much depth on the game and with some few sub it will easily make u spend 500h of gameplay if u like it.
Shame the modders couldn't add their own models and animations.

Frozen Synapse is a really unique one

xcom ew

7,62 is kino
>PLOkHO

>7.62
Just had a look at this. Looks like a clunky slav Jagged Alliance.
What makes it so good?

You described it best, if clunky slav jagged alliance with /k/ levels of autism interest you, go for it

What makes the combat deep? I see a lot of users praising a deep combat system

contrary to the name there is a massive amount of calibers and weapons for every single situation. Getting hit in different places affects you differently,

Looks fantastic, I'll give it a go.

Myth 1 and 2 if you want a RTT where physics is actually simulated and formations matter without being magical attack/defense bonuses.

Can someone tell me how to git gud at battle brothers?

OP here, played the shit out of Myth 2 back in the day. Even completed the campaign on max difficulty with 0 casualties by exploiting the fuck out of dwarves. Absolutely phenomenal game.

CASUALTY

If you like customizing your troops, I would recommend checking out Ultimate General: Civil War where you have to equip your troops throughout the course of the campaign and if you play as the CSA most of your guns will be captured from the enemy.

Age of Wonders is a fantasy game with light 4x elements. You can get hero units that can be improved through experience and be carried over though campaign levels.

You could also try the total war games, lots of management there if you want to try different troop combinations

If you want something heavier on the RPG side with a small party of units you carry through the entire campaign, look into Hard West, as the abilities your guys have are determined by the cards you give them.

I've only played a bit of Eador, but I liked what I saw. You'd have to go elsewhere to find more details.

Xenonauts, OpenXcom, Takeda 3, Shogun/Medieval 1, Close Combat 2, Fallout Tactics.

Also Shadow of the Horned Rat, Dark Omen, Sid Meier's Gettysburg.

FPS - Hidden & Dangerous, Swat
Stealth - Commandos, Desperados, Shadow Tactics, Invisible INC.
Tactical - Into the Breach, Door Kickers, Mordheim

The problem with Total War games is that they're really shallow and wear their welcome quickly. For 90% of the games I can use the same exact tactics of making a line and flanking to win. The campaign map usually feels like busywork and the AI is incapable of contesting you unless they get armies spawned in for them. I almost never finish campaigns because one you hit a certain point, you just steamroll the rest of the map.
