Hear me out on this.
Basically the game is Rosalina exploring the universe collecting little bits and bobbles. Add a what is a essentially a chao garden on roids into the mix for when you return to the observatory orbiting the planet you're on. I'd go with the 3D World take, but remove the timer and beef the levels up, Give each world a sort of hub town so there's a bit of exploration for you to do. Objectives aren't picked from the start of the level, instead you get hints and objectives from NPCs and clues you might find.
