Reminder that 1 and 2 were originally a single game that got split up because it was too huge to fit on a cartridge, and that combined they were planned as the first game of a trilogy that will never be finished.

I finished TLA for the first time in my life this year. It was a good game but no near Golden Sun 1 levels of good. Pacing in the story it's sluggish, there are not so many great characters as in 1. And the open world setting was a shore, it was there only for stretching the length of the game. A lot of the travel in this open world was filled with pointless zones, there was 0 reasons to travel around if wasn't for the "hidden djinns" in criptic areas. Everything else was good tho.
GS1: 9/10
GS2: 8/10

I played GS1 when I was as kid, didn't finish it because English wasn't my first language and I didn't know how to properly use djinns or statuses in general, so I was mainly just focusing on making damage and being vulnerable as fuck after my first round against bosses. The game setting and world stick with me over the years, and a year ago I played GS1 again and I was able to beat it fine after all those years. It was a great experience tho. 2 lacks of other things, like I don't know, maybe other mechanics. It's felt like "1, but larger" lacking the story telling that 1 has to stick you into the plot in general. Some great and interesting characters helped too.

Being soulles doesn't necessarily mean that a game is bad.
TLA is objetively the best Golden Sun game, but the characters, the environments, and even the color palette lack soul.
