>Crowdfunded game Outer Wilds becomes Epic exclusive despite having promised Steam keys
>Outer Wilds will first be released on XBox One and on PC via the Epic Games Store, with additional platforms coming later. >Throughout the development of the game, we’ve welcomed helpful partnerships with Annapurna Interactive, XBox, and Epic to support us and keep our small studio running long enough to ship the game at the level of quality that it is today. >Each of these partnerships has enabled us to make the game better and more accessible for everyone who will play it.
was looking forward to this game for 4+ years. now I won't have to feel bad for pirating it :)
Carson Collins
Good seeing one company finally taking a stand against Valve's monopoly of the PC market.
Eli Wright

Microsoft gave this away in 2017 if you watched E3 on Mixer We've been waiting for its release since. Doesn't seem like a big loss.

All the gameplay footage looked like shit so far. Obsidian hasn't made a good game since forever
Samuel Reyes
Epic's going to give them guaranteed sales, so you can guilt free pirate the game. Be sure to thank Tim for the free copy.
Levi Taylor
>Literal who game
Carter Collins
Wrong game.
Jackson James
i gulit free pirate whatever whenever i still think what epic is doing is shoddy a shame, this is the savior of pc gaming a certain group of people preach about and you got nothing in exchange but a shittier client and pricier games
John Collins
>Obsidian game Thanks for beta testing, Chinks. Everyone already knows their games are near unplayable until a year of patches.
I pirate all my singleplayer games anyways.
Jaxson Thomas
Wrong game.

ANOTHER ONE DOWN ANOTHER ONE DOWN ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST GABE I'M GONNA GET YOU TOO
Oh. Well let's look this game up then. >Outer Wilds is an open world exploration indie video game. >Engine: Unity OH NO. IT'S ALL OVER. HOW CAN EPIC EVER BE TOPPED NOW??!!?! GABEEEEENNN HELP USSSSS
Elijah Diaz
Literally this.
Every single fucking game that comes out is riddled with bugs and nonsense.
It takes months for it to be the "definitive" edition.
Nicholas Cruz
The funny thing is steam itself is making windows less of a monopoly
Grayson Adams
So do you guys actually like Epic or do you hate Steam just that much? Also, how long do you think the EGS will be able to remain relevant once the normal masses drop Fortnite and BR games and move on to the next big fad?
Levi Gutierrez
I have more of a problem with them advertising the game for steam on all their media.
On their official website for the game it still says steam and xbox as the only platforms
Luke Walker
>Also, how long do you think the EGS will be able to remain relevant once the normal masses drop Fortnite and BR games and move on to the next big fad? It won't, and Epic and its Chink overlords know that. If they want to continue to datamine computers from around the world for Chinese intelligence they know they need to spend all their Fortnite bucks trying to convert people for the long run.
Evan Harris
Man I remember playing an older alpha version of Outer Wilds, that damn angler plant scared the shit out of me. Glad to see it's finally going to be finished.
Liam Evans
Will they run out of Fortnite money from buying exclusivity rights before making any sort of money to sustain themselves to compete with Steam?
They literally have no games right now, despite me hearing about unadda new exclusive every week.
Jonathan Wright
>So do you guys actually like Epic or do you hate Steam just that much? They just hate Steam that much, no one really likes Epic ever since they dropped their only good games to dedicate themselves entirely to Fortnite.
Jace Howard
Based Chinese made this game free to play for everyone else. Thank you comrade China
Blake Barnes
fornite made billions last year....BILLIONS
Thomas Perry
>Will they run out of Fortnite money from buying exclusivity rights before making any sort of money to sustain themselves to compete with Steam? No, Fortnite makes money faster than Epic spends it. They make, like, two~three billion per year, and I doubt the combined value of all their deals would ever reach over 400 million.
Cameron Sanchez
>crowdfunded people paid >promise steam keys paid for this >epic store exclusive fraud is a felony.
looks like ill be pirating this game instead of buying it.
Alexander Smith
They're mostly shitposters, the rest embarrass themselves with their lack of understanding for what monopoly means.
Robert Scott
I wonder how much revenue share the Fortnite devs get of the Fortnite profits. Those devs must be multi-millionaires by now.
Camden Morris
Gaben looks like a mix of a pig and a pig

Parker Mitchell
>Steam drone: hehehehe I'll just buy Mordhau as a fuck you to Epic Epic: Thank you Mordhau devs for your money >Steam drone: NOOOOOO THIS WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN
Is epic secure? I want to download it but everyone has me paranoid about account security.
Xavier Johnson
I hate epic because this buying exclusives shit is a cheap tactic. Steam won out over its competitors in the past largely because of its sales and ease of use. Epic doesn't want to do sales so they can fuck off. Everyone needs to pirate their shit so this business model fails and they have to put an end to it.
Fucking zoomers and their fortnite shit ruining gaming.
Zachary Wood
Anyone with the name Sweeney is not to be trusted
it's such a cunty name
Adam Gray
no
Easton Rodriguez
considering Tencent owns 49% of them
no
It's not secure
Easton Davis
Do devs think this is going to last for good though? This is just an inventive to bring games to their store but it's not maintainable for good especially as they grow and bring on more devs.
Sebastian Rivera
But the game is still made and maintained by a team of developers. Tim Sweeney always says how important it is to give more money to game devs so I would assume these people all live in mansions by now.
Ryan Johnson
The Chinese
Benjamin Bennett
Consider their ToS literally states they share your data with their partners and Tencent is a majority shareholder, no. Not at all.

then why didn't epic make a storefront before fortnite?

Nolan Moore
pig^2 trumps ratpig.
Ethan Torres
>partnering with Epic to make the game "more accessible" >makes it exclusive and thus the complete opposite of accessible to anyone who'd like it on console or who doesn't want chink botnet on their computer
That level of self delusion can't be healthy, right?
They are too retarded to see that it is just a matter of time until EGS becomes saturated and will probably stop offering these deals for anything but high profile AAA games. Not that most "indie" devs have a chance to score money from epic games anyway.
Matthew Turner
>Those devs must be multi-millionaires by now. Only Timmy Boy, who raked in 3 billion bucks for himself like the rat that he looks like, while his employees crunch themselves to death to give him that money. No wonder Pitchford vehemently defended the Epic deal shit, they're birds of a freather.
He probably saw himself in Tim-Tim, a bullshitting piece of shit.
Josiah Harris
>Do devs think this is going to last for good though?
Maybe, maybe not, but it's good to get in while the iron is hot
Juan Jackson
Fuck no. I used it to play UT, deisntalled it after they declared it dead, wrote a mail to delete my account and had for weeks new mail that someone tried to access my account from an unkonwn location. I fianlly changed the mail to some trashmail account to not be bothered with it anymore.
Jacob Brown
I play insurgency sandstorm and that game is lucky to have 1500 players on.
Gavin Roberts
Epic will stop itself at some point. They're working the store at a loss currently and the model of paying devs to make exclusives with minimal cut for epic is not sustainable.
They will return to a working model in the future once they're established on the market or once the investors are starting to question it.
Camden Lee
any game that does well put the corresponding devs on easy street
Nathaniel Cox
>Only Timmy Boy, who raked in 3 billion bucks for himself like the rat that he looks like, while his employees crunch themselves to death to give him that money
Because we all know the Valve model of letting devs do whatever the fuck they want has worked, right?
>Epic doesn't want to do sales so they can fuck off Pretty much this. I'll never pay $60 for a game, especially one that doesn't even have a demo; I buy games during steam sales for between $5~$30 if I like them that's great, but if they are trash it's only a few bucks lost. It's always strange to me when a dev complains about steam sales hurting their profit when the alternative is that I would never buy their game at all their initial price point.
Pretty sure no one at Valve wanted to make that game except Gabe and his suit buddies. Artifact's a cashgrab and nothing else, a literal souless game created to make bank on a trend, and I'm glad it failed spectacularly.
Gabriel Butler
>$0 in the bank Nope, just checked, I have plenty of money in my bank.
All the good writers left Obsidian so this isn't a loss. Even if Josh is decent at times he doesn't have the balls to reign in the new blood. ps. this isn't a trap. Also bring my some candied nuts.
Blake Taylor
>Not him lol
Evan Thompson
>tfw you always pirate unless you really like the game.
>Game from 2014 >Don't even know what the other one is What trend, exactly?
Isaac Ortiz
It's always funny when someone is desperate for attention (Epic) and their "rival" doesn't even acknowledge them. Major publishers have already turned down exclusivity offers for their main releases because shockingly they want their games on as many platforms as possible, so in the long term it's not sustainable policy. Developers and smaller publishers holding out thinking Valve will offer them anything equivalent are going to be disappointed.
user this isn't Outer worlds its outer wilds a shit game that is trying to trick people its the outer worlds by having a similar name.
Luis Jenkins
>paying devs for early access exclusivity Why would anyone try to stop him when he's keeping rival storefronts safe from unfinished indie games and day one patch AAA titles?
Michael Johnson
Textbook cope
Jayden Turner
>>and their "rival" doesn't even acknowledge them.
>Valve Says It's 'Unfair' That Metro Exodus Is Exclusive To Epic Store
NOOOOOO - THIS WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN
Dylan Peterson
Back in 2012(??) there was a game that was shilled on Yea Forums as a college project or something. The demo is still up you can download it. It was a fun little thing. Then years later we learn that they started crowd funding with that lecherous creature Tim Schafer's scam platform. And then they disappeared again. Now they're releasing soon, they've had a page on the steam store for a year at least.
Samuel Adams
same here
Ryan Ross
Epic has shit store and good engine Valve has good store and shit games (newer ones) You know you can pick and choose what you like and not like right? You don't need to like everything from one company/person

FUCK THIS SHIT FUCK EPIC GAMES Outer Wilds was one of my most anticipated games this year and then they pull this shit? Holy fuck. Pirate it is then. I don't have a reaction image to show my rage well enough.
>I don't have a reaction image to show my rage well enough.
So why'd you post that cringe image?
Isaac Rivera
>This post Shudder.
Ethan Murphy
i doubt anyone heard of this game before, stop pretending

Is there any evidence of them working at a loss? I suspect it as well, but I would imagine they would have stopped paying for so many smaller games if that were the case.

Not even him, I just posted to make you mad. I have no clue what you guys are even talking about. You're just cringey; that's it lol.
Logan Ross
Pure speculation from a retard here, but I'd guess they are going even or at a loss The cost of developers, support, bandwidth and servers is to high compared to the size of their store atm They have also moved some of the costs onto the consumers making the games more expensive (but you can't get it elsewhere because exclusives)
Charles Reed
Fuck you you fucking faggot I was here with Yea Forums back when the demo came out four years ago and we tried to solve it's mysteries. Hell I can even tell you most of it's secrets top of my head including that one asteroid which changed it's scenery each time you turned around.
Remember when Epic boasted 250k sales on that zombie game, but the devs said 1mil players? The people winning this fight are publishers with their own store Nobody uses egs (unless they are retarded) so all the sales come from the publishers store
Jayden Flores
Not even lying, Outer Wilds has that sweet adventure and mystery atmosphere going on that I've been missing. I've been following the development from the start and now this.
Brody Walker
>Remember when Epic boasted 250k sales on that zombie game, but the devs said 1mil players?
that's the first i hear of it, but i imagine people creamed themselves over the original concept of Sean Murray's game (i forgot the title but i'm sure you know the one) would be hype for it it looks like it's going to be everything that game wasn't
Cameron Butler
>any evidence of them working at a loss If you're autistic enough to peruse through Tim's twitter you'll find him mentioning that the current cut they take from developers isn't "sustainable". This doesn't necessarily mean they're operating at a loss but that's the way some people chose to read it, it's not an entirely wrong interpretation but when Wallmart tries to murder every other store in a new location by price cutting I wouldn't describe it as "operating at a loss", it's completely deliberate.
Since we're talking about Valve here, can we talk about the Index for a bit? I know that shit's mad expensive, but why is it so? Is Valve's new VR setup so high end that it needs that price point? Even then, what's the point of making a VR setup so advanced if most VR games are still gonna be made with the regular sets limitations and not take full advantage of the index?
Unless Valve's working on a game that shows what their headse is capable of and blows our minds away, to me it all seems like a bunch of wasted resources that ould've gone to improving the store, and, well, developing fuckng games. Doesn't even need to be Half Life 3, I'd just be content with a L4D3 that has four new protags and campaign + all old protags and campaigns ported/remastered to it, and maybe a Portal 3 as well.
Hunter Wood
>not wanting to surpass yourself Lifelet
Levi Sullivan
Your things won't make you happy.
Caleb Bailey
Holy fucking cringe, never post shit like this again you nigger
Blake White
>It's okay because they haven't got to the games I actually like yet
Carson Stewart
Improving my life in every way makes me happy. A lifelet like you would never understand.
Owen Carter
Interesting, thanks for sharing that tidbit, user. I had a feeling of something like that. Do people simpy not realize that the steam cut goes to all the upkeep that comes with keeping and hosting a game?
Jace Gomez
Looks like a walking simulator, might be a comfy game for those long winter nights, I'll get it on sale when its on Steam. Also have Epic lost so much money that they have to target literal who crowdfunded games to afford it buying them off Steam?
Matthew Wilson
>There won't be anyone who gets impatient and buys it from Epic even through they didn't want to originally
Elijah Reyes
Fuuuck, another game I've never heard of (probably indie shit) and will never buy or pirate going EGS exclusive, how will i sleep at night
Cooper Brown
What game is this even.
God it's all so fucking tiresome with this epic store bullshit.
Samuel Scott
(You)'re trying too hard
Jaxson King
Inb4 this forces Valve to fix and improve VAC to the point that its actually better then EAC in every way
Thomas Rodriguez
No, they're too busy sucking Tim's cock to realize.
Ryan Kelly
Nice hyperbole there will be a few people who buy it on the chink spyware hovel, but mostly people will wait. Why? Because most of us Steamfags have backlogs to playthrough.
Cameron Torres
this breach of trust won't end well for the indie shitters and the crowdfund scene. they are besically telling all future potential backers to go fuck themselves. I'm glad I haven't backed any of the trash that made a quick switcharoo after collecting all the backer money first and then telling them all to suck it down for at least a year.
>Back game because you're promised a steam key >Game releases >No Steam keys Shouldn't this legally not be allowed? You paid them because you were told you were getting something and then didn't get it.
William Gomez
>our goal is to bring the game to your preferred platform as quickly as possible >blatantly takes fat check from Epic for at least a million dollars in exchange for exclusivity What universe do these people live in exactly?
Cameron Edwards
Can anything stop him from going bald?
Samuel Garcia
Dunno but otherwise yeah Linux version is probably out the window now as well.
Lucas Torres
Valve said it was unfair to the customer that they first open sales on Steam, then just do a 180 just days prior to the game releasing. Valve never talked about Epic and their pathetic shit, they said the metros publisher was faggots.
Henry Parker
Fuck Epic. Steam could use some actual competition, but snatching up exclusives and smugly telling people they'll stop doing it when Steam shoots themselves in the foot is not the way to go about it.
Aaron Nelson
>PCūcks have to either bow down to the chinks or the fat fuck It pleases me a lot seeing PCūcks go apeshit and seethe about something as trivial as another Game Launcher the best part is you think trhowing tantrums in the steam reviews and go full subhuman and pirate everithing on sight will do any other thing than sink more deeper the already shitty/awful state of Pc gaming
I feel you, James was talking about maybe releasing Diabotical on the EGS for the 88% cut. But quickly realised that Steam had feature no other platform could match, a bunch of back end shit that we as players never think about, which is a bunch of shit that made the lifes of the devs way easier
People don't realize how robust Steamworks actually is. It's way more than just achievements on your game library.
Brody Edwards
>we don't want to Nigger you're already there lmfao
Wyatt Anderson
I don't get this image, Steam did have lower prices, and were constantly improving the store.
Carter Long
>don't support EGS for the next 15 years until it matures Can do.
Easton Harris
>another arena shooter to add to the pile of dead on arrivals I wonder if James will just realize arenafags don't want anything other than jerking off for the e-cred.
Grayson Wilson
Yeah, what's funny is that people don't realize just how much steam does to help games release on their store they get servers, a forum, a support section, the workshop, and plenty of other things and that's not including all the things steam does for their users.
What does Epic do for Developers? Gives the publisher a large sum of money and a less cluttered storefront. Players get a friends list and chat, think that's about it.
Jacob Hughes
It will be alive for the first 15-30 days. So I'll have some fun with it at least.
>pc is just a series of walled gardens no better than consoles >no modding culture Fuck this I just pirate everything on the epic gay store and steam Gayben and his knife collection
Kayden Anderson
>to go down the same retarded road as you console owners are in You already are and even worse
That's a retarded outlook to have. That's like saying "Well, MY house hasn't caught fire, so why should I do anything to fireproof it?"
Gavin Harris
I fucking swear I thought Epic said they were actually going to curate properly?
So far most of their catalogue is trash.

That's a stupid analogy user. You can fireproof your own house. You can't force epic to do things your way.

Good job on outing yourself as even more of a newfag.
>early access shit >early access shit >l4d clone >factorio rip off that's also early access shit >second worse metro >yet another borderlands game >one of the worse souls rip offs >no trash

Asher Sanders
it has the backing of tf2's famous player, b4nny. It will succeed.
Pretty much summed it up.The question is how is borderlands relevant after all these years...
Joshua King
Something that should be set aside from Steam/Epic hate is that devs who promise the game will be on steam at launch are walking back on those promises and that any game that says it will be launched on steam basically cannot be trusted until it's for sale that day. I have to wonder if there is a breach of contract/ false advertising lawsuit somewhere in this, especially for the devs who are funding their games through donations.
Levi Bailey
to be fair, gaben doesnt look like a pig, he's just disgustingly fat
Jason White

I don't see why it shouldn't be sustainable considering how much less background infrastructure EGS has set up compared to Steam. wtf are they doing?

He's talking out of his ass you utter fucking retard.
James Russell
I'll never understand the "muh bloat" argument. I don't watch much vidya related youtube stuff and I certainly don't read any news on games so instead I subbed to a couple of curators and do a Steam Queue every once in a while and I consistently find some pretty great games. Once you go through enough games then the Queue starts recommending trash but I just filtered out a couple of tags and I'm set.
Who cares, Epic Games literally already paid for lost sales from piracy.

"muh bloat" posters are literally grasping at straws, especially considering how much of that 'bloat' is upcoming on EGS's roadmap.
Jayden Scott

The only things they're killing is Kickstarter/crowdfunding projects.

it's safe to assume that over half of all anti-Epic posts are simply not true, especially anything regarding people who think they know more about business than one of the richest people in the world
Dominic Jenkins
>fans kickstart your game >go to Sweeney and get a big chink bribe for exclusivity honestly it's hilarious, these con men are getting to scam both gamurs (most who resorted to kickstarter are lazy scum who the publishers have evicted) and then get Tencent to give them another payout for whatever half-baked shit they release to claim they fulfilled contractual obligations with Kickstarter.
Thomas Wood
>Faggot forgot to turn off his trip Thanks now I know to never consider anything you say valid since your an obvious epic store shill.

Everybody and their grandmas are trying to get that fortnite addicts audience. If one studio manages just that and doesn't work with Epic they're going to have a bad time, especially if that lootbox/microtransaction ban passes in the US. Epic should burn their money on making a better and more secure launcher instead.

Nips are too hardheaded. It took Valve fucking years to get those slants onto their store.
Thomas Price
Looks like she's packing a nice pair of tits, time to jerk off
Nolan Bennett
imagine the sheer number of man hours valve poured into artifact over the years
imagine the millions of dollars in salaries paid to economists to perfect the most optimum way to empty the wallets of their customers
imagine gaben actually comparing it half life 2 and thinking 'yeah, that sounds about right. valve still makes games.'
Xavier Gonzalez
This reminds me.
What are the only real exclusives epic has? I know Satisfactory has burned its bridges. Will shit like Phoenix Point do it as well out of spite?
Liam Anderson
Not bad when only like 1% of users have VR so far desu.
Adam Brooks
and IIRC some of them did take microsoft exclusive deals in the 360 era, without any direct quotes from them it's hard to tell what they think about this (and we all know they just won't actually say what they think), but I doubt they'll swing around the "competition" buzzword at least
David Carter
>Tfw you'll never be able to slam and grapple random girls feeling them up on the pretense that your wrestling for sport.
and then imagine the Epic china store shill like you, thinking a crowdfunded shovelware literally fucking WHO game, is a threat to Steam or Gaben who swims in VR money in any fucking way
JUST IMAGINE
I M A G I N E
Owen Cook
Imagine the same thing about the new Unreal and UT games. Except those never made it to release before being dropped for Fortnite.
Aiden Reyes
Imagine being so salty about Steam being superior that you have to make an edit of this quality and spout shit everybody with a functioning brain know is not true.
Adrian Evans
It's great that Artifact happened.
Valve needed an absolute flop that would actually humble them.
Logan Howard
What Gaben did to deserve your support? Introducing lootboxes on big scale? Refusing to allow refunds for years(even EA comply, gaben didn't till he was literaly forced to).
Epic hate is combination of american fear of china and network effect.
Dominic Butler
who gives a shit about the tianamen squad. i just want steam to die.
Adam Kelly
I doubt they'll be humbled until they try to relaunch the game and it fails again.
>I want gaming to be equally shitty on PC compared to consoles!
Jose Evans
The problem epic has is that capcom and even Sekiro is seeing disgusting amounts of success on steam so other nip devs are seeing that as well.
Nolan Jackson
>pancakes.png
Epic is garbage and it's fucking plain as day what their long term goals are. I don't give a shit about steam, but they're clearly the lesser of two evils at this point along with every other launcher except maybe bethesda.
Brody Evans
>who cares yeah probably nobody gives a fuck about Epic, harsh reality I know
Xavier Cook
True. We'll see in the long run what happens.
Isaiah Williams
lmao this nigga born in a post-steam world bruh i been pirating games since 89
William Wright
>Epic to support us and keep our small studio running long enough to ship the game at the level of quality that it is today. FREE kickstarter bucks weren't enough?
Nathan Butler
It definitely was a major trend, four fucking years ago.
Thomas Hughes
Yes, i'm shilling for china. Why wouldn't i? America is already dead anyway
Grayson Anderson
Devs have reported that Epic essentially guarantees to the devs that they'll be in the black by paying them what they need to make a profit.
So for example a game that cost 50k but only made back 20k in sale will have Epic personally pay the devs 30k. It is an extremely good deal. So yeah, pirate away
Gabriel Walker
>another single player game going to epic Lmao who cares. I'd rather pirate than sign up for another store app; especially a chink one.
Thomas Ramirez
>what is torrent
Aaron Carter
They made $125k from their crowdfunding campaign, probably $80k of which they actually received. That's not even enough money for 1 skilled full-time programmer for a year.
Gavin Nelson
He's going after crowdfunded games because he knows those already cultivated a following.
Hunter White
What are their long term goals are? Apart from making pc gaming more healthy ofc
Nathaniel Wilson
>Post Steam world after the client dies >Your library is gone to purgatory >EGS keeps the zoomers in droves after Fortnite 2.5 & $1000 worth of DLC >Tencent and Sweeney Todd strongarm US legislation to tie internet service to your social security >Torrenting, VPNs, and Newsgroups have been blacklisted and will ruin you financially and socially if you attempt to use those services What a time to be alive!
Gaben is a cutie but fat, too bad he's an asshole that won't make games
Samuel Allen
>What are their long term goals are? Well >Apart from making pc gaming more healthy ofc Actually nevermind, I'm not wasting oxygen on a shill.
Blake Johnson
I don't really care much about any of this but isn't it a bit fucky to use the free publicity steam has then pulling it last minute to go to epic? Why hasn't valve done anything yet?
Wyatt King
They're not pulling it, they're delaying it. No one has done anything "wrong".
David Hernandez
What the fuck are they gonna do, start buying exclusives as well? Nobody wants that. Even if they just gave them money to NOT make it exclusive epic won't take it if they don't have exclusive control of it.
Dylan Thompson
>nobody wants that I'm sure there's a long list of people that would love is Valve paid them for their shitty indie games.
As much as I'm interested in seeing how the blue cherkmarks would rationalize Valve paying for exclusives of their own being a bad thing, odds are Valve will just sit on its ass and wait it out. It's for the best too, this is a long term conflict and being reactionary doesn't really pay off
Blake Hill
no one really likes epic, they're just shitposters or paid shills
Chase Perez
Depp is a bigger cunt
not even counting the amber heard shit
Logan Morales
Hurr durr you don't agree with me so i'm not going to talk with you, you shill! I'm on fucking reddit i swear to god
Hunter Williams
The entire reason Origin, UPlay, the Epic store, and others exist is because these companies feel the cost of selling a game on Steam is too high. If Steam had a 15% cut or even a 20% cut 10 years ago, none of these other services would exist. The Epic store existing at 12% also ensures that no new launchers will ever be created because the barrier to entry is no longer worth it.
Valve doesn't need to offer payments or exclusivity. They already have the customers. They just need to charge less.
Steam could start to black list easily and I doubt you would that for one time deal with Epic china
Andrew King
>none of these other services would exist Bullshit. Even a 10% cut is still significant when you sell millions of copies. Easily worth it to build your own store with basic features.
Hunter Bell
Go back there if the great firewall allows it
Jordan Sanchez
This. I have never heard of it until this very thread.
>FREE kickstarter bucks weren't enough? Today Kickstarter is used more as a proof of concept, a way to get attention from a publisher and show them that there is a demand for that kind of game, and hopefully get extra funding.
Jaxson Martinez
>The entire reason Origin, UPlay, the Epic store, and others exist is because these companies feel the cost of selling a game on Steam is too high. No motherfucker they just realized that they can try to cut out the middle man to make a fractional amount of more money that and to be stricter on refunds.
>blacklist someone >epic immediately starts to scream that they're more open despite also saying that they'd curate their store so it doesn't end up like steam
Charles Nelson
No company is going to invest tens of millions of dollars in perpetual costs for MAYBE a chance at 1-2% higher profits. Even EA doesn't move enough volume to make that risk worth it. For 10% higher profits, absolutely.
Brandon Rivera
>Lel, we'll just distribute our games through now-dead physical media. >I'll avoid the great firewall, just you watch! Cope old man.
Jeremiah Perez
why does epic need to buy exclusives anyway? didn't the steamspy guy say that steam's userbase is irrelevant compared to how broad the install base of the fortnite using epic launcher is?
they said that epic was going to take over by being the most popular launcher already what happened to that? are they dangerously less market significant than they thought?
They hasn't done anything because actual competition is something new for them. Apparently, you don't need to care when you are basically the only option out there other than making your own store. What are the odds
Zachary Walker
>feel the cost of selling a game on Steam is too high *feel they could get more money by selling games on their own store
If they don't keep making headlines by buying games or doing shit like sabotaging linux gaming then EGS will get sidelined like all the other distribution platforms that came before it.
David Brooks
>He didn't buy Exodus on Steam
Daniel Hill
Based chinks I had to start pirating after steam exclusives became more and more common Fuck steam and fuck valve
The most interesting thing about this whole thing is that Epic and Valve share the same office building a couple floors apart, so Gabe has to take the elevator up with a bunch of Epic employees every morning.
Dylan Ward
those African features, that hair color. el goblina
Elijah Cook
>A documentary about Sweeney and Gabe in the elevator, keeping their best smile through clenched teeth as they resist the urge to stab each other >releases on both stores
unfortunately it's not the main Epic office, so Tim isn't there. he probably visits sometimes though
Austin Wood
>these companies feel the cost of selling a game on Steam is too high. >He honestly believes fucking EA of all companies wouldn't stop selling their games on Steam if their revenue split was lower EA would make their own store even if Steam's split was "Steam 1/99 dev/pub".
And Ubisoft would create their own store anyway because Uplay wasn't always meant to be a store, but a second DRM for their games. Selling games there is just icing on the cake, it's main function is to be another piece of shit DRM.
Jacob Bennett
>Great firewall
HAHAHHAHA, you destroyed him. I would give you reddit gold for this, but i can't find the button.I love to suck each other dicks, it's so fun. Fuck epic
Kevin Ramirez
what exclusives?
Wyatt Rodriguez
What is Outer Wilds? Is this a chinese take at Outer Worlds?
>go to Steam store >see Metro Complete Edition under 'Trending Among Friends' >click it >taken to MetroTheGame homepage >Exodus only available on consoles and Epic Store How are they getting away with this?
Bentley Wood
Kill yourself
Luke Ortiz
Neck yourself steam fag
Nathaniel King
looks like Epic china running out of options and money here. Went all the way from AAA Metro to crowdfunded shovelware.
When is Bloodborne? Seriously, if Epic wants to win me over that's all the have to do
Caleb Gonzalez
>Epic china running out of options and money here
Tim sweeney alone is worth 8 billion. Epic is already on their last straw, or at least that's what steam fags want to belive
Evan Richardson
>Japan working with China Are you dumb?
John Hughes
Kill yourself
Noah Watson
why do people think sony exclusive will get ported? because quantic dream games and a bunch of secondary games that nobody knows about got ported while all of their flagship titles remained exclusives?
Adam Torres
Ok now i'm mad, i was actually waiting for this game
Kevin Ward
Shit mates, i've been waiting for thus game for years It's a fucking shame, good thing it's still getting released though
>8 billion and who told you that? Your daily epic newsletter?
Ian Perry
Okay
Brayden Gomez
Because epic will most likely try to buy rights to sony exclusives. Unlike steam who invest their money in shitty hardware, epic may do something good for pc gaming.
Luke Martin
sauce?
Angel Robinson
Bloodborne never ever on pc, but just imagine the assblast of it being an epic exclusive.
That's a publisher's decision to put the games only on Steam, not Valves. It's sucks balls yeah, I'd rather get these game on GOG if I had the option, but Sega and 2K don't want to risk piracy, so they'll put the game on the store that isn't DRM free. But Valve never really paid third parties to release games only ont their stores, neither do they encourage that practice as far as I know.
I mean, Valve was paying third parties to NOT make VR games exclusive to their headset.
Joshua Phillips
Uhhhh Sekiro
Isaac Parker
>implying chinks don't have enough money to buy licenses from the jews
James Russell
its hilarious when you have to resort to wishful thinking to have a reason to shit on steam but keep on dreaming
>Billionaire sharing an elevator with chink wagies
Truly suffering.
Thomas King
>Been waiting for the game for years >Epic buy them out For fucks sakes, I refuse to support Epic's retarded Apple tier tactics
James Hernandez
cope
Wyatt White
But Yea Forums always told me that pirating games does not hurt the industry, but in fact only makes it so they get even more money. Does that mean that all the seething VaIvedrones that pirate games are helping Epic store?
I'm shitting on valve because they produced only shit for the past 6 years. Learn to read faggot
Samuel Cooper
I played it, I remember it being fun for what it was.
Also I got like fucking vertigo or something when the planet I was standing on suddenly exploded into space, and then came back into form..
Jeremiah Gray
>do something good for pc gaming is this bait or are you just underage pretending that Sony will ever sell their right to some fucking chink store to rsell their games and risk their entire ecosystem which was build upon exclusivity?
Ethan Phillips
Who is saying people are pirating "to hurt epic" you stupid faggot.
Daniel Phillips
reminder that if you download the demo now ALL the story spoilers and planets you could visit have been blocked so you cant find the mysteries literally 90% of the demo content gone ill bet my left testicle all that shit will be recalled as new content
Owen Wilson
Also dont forget the banging ass soundtrack instant OST pirate on that one
Adam Watson
Thought this was galaxy rebel outlaw at first
Jeremiah Gutierrez
i'm curious just curious what did Epic do for you?
Cooper Flores
That doesn't mean you have to praise fucking Epic.
Thomas Rivera
Based
Sebastian Perez
I've been confusing this Outer Wilds thing with that janky new Obsidian game. Feeling kind of silly now.
Technically a case of fraud from which a lawsuit can be mounted, considering they promised Steam keys and many people pledged money based on said Steam keys, especially if they refuse refunds. Game developers are retarded.
>Be publisher >release game on egs >everyone hates you >they refuse to buy it on egs >they buy it on your storefront instead >no refunds no support 100% revenue >still get egs paycheck
>"VaIvedrones says for the thundered time while in reality the latest metro game sold more copies on PC than ever before." OH NONONONONO
Angel Robinson
Literally every other deal Epic made was better than the ones with Ubisoft. Why do they keep doing this?
Samuel Flores
are you trying to argue about facts you autist? google it
Justin Gray
Post those "facts" or fuck off.
Levi Phillips
>spoonfeed me please :((( fuck off retard
Jayden Myers
Then why don't they share numbers? Where are the numbers on metro exodus and destiny 2 If they sold so much why not brag about it? Instead they use deceitful marketing strategies to talk about sales
Jeremiah Lee
In general that's true. But when Epic are going to be the only source for a game and a large amount of people who would have happily paid for the game on Steam decide to now pirate it, that's a bit fucking different.
Thomas Nguyen
Because 99% of the devs and publishers don't share numbers, why would they be an exception?
How much more worth? Since if you do read the fucking article, which your insectoid brain isn't capable of, it's not nearly twice as much as the fatass.
Because egs needs to show numbers to attract people to go exclusive without having to pay them? Only about 5% of their "userbase" downloaded a free game Thats the only clean number egs has released about their store
Cameron Diaz
They bought easy anti-cheat and stopped linux support
Justin Scott
Outer Wilds is a fun little game Go download the alpha for free from when it was a simple university project
Michael Bennett
>Apart from making pc gaming more healthy >Epic >Making games more healthy I can't tell if you're a shit poster or just extremely delusional
Jose Hernandez
He's probably went below Gaben again with all the moneyhatting he's been doing to devs and publishers who didn't even come close to selling as much as they were promised.
Juan Nelson
>Fortnite is doing better than ever >The exclusive games he acquired are selling more than their predecessor. >"t-this time Epic is done for!"
Leo Lewis
holy basedola
Thomas Gutierrez
>Fortnite is dying and their devs are almost literally slaves >Pretty much all exclusives they moneyhatted failed >"E-Epic is fine, Steam is done for!"
Jason Adams
>>Fortnite is doing better than ever For now. The downturn is starting
I remember this game being flavour of the month years ago. Figures newfags, whom is the majority of Yea Forums don't know about it
Jack Jackson
>The devs did not fall for the "e-sport meme" that has ruined so many games Are you actually suggesting this is a bad thing? That the devs panders and caters to the players instead of "muh e-sport competitive game"? Damn it must really suck that the 0.0001% of the players didn't like that they patched the game.
Levi Rodriguez
Watch the casual playerbase die as well when it's no longer trendy.
Lucas King
Yeah because pushing the e-sport meme has really worked out for so many games like Overwatch....oh wait.
You mean that game nobody talks about even playing casually anymore?
Charles Bailey
Reminder that the game just had an event that let the community and actual players vote for an item to return. The item that won the vote by far made Reddit and "pros" seethe like babies and cry. You are actually suggesting that the game is going to die because the devs do not listen to the Reddit circlejerk.
You're right no one is playing Fortnite, it being one of the most played games of all time and still one of the most profitable games out there is just a lie.
maybe this is some kind of big-brain marketing scheme
Nathaniel Baker
Steam single handedly made PC a viable platform for developers and publishers. We wouldn't have got a fraction of the ports without their platform. Steam used to be a really shitty option, piracy was much better in every way. eventually they gave enough reason to buy games, and now Epic wants to come along and act like they can take us back to the dark ages. Should epic ever win out, which seems very unlikely imo, then there will never be a reason to buy games again. there store exists to make money for publishers and to lock down the flow of information to the consumer. that kind of model will never make piracy irrelevant.
Leo Sanchez
>Dota You mean the game which around 25% of the players in game right now are playing a custom game mode made by Chinks?. Dota is losing more players for each day because they keep ignoring the actual playerbase and just focus on e-sport.
>CS >LoL OH NONONONONO
Hudson Flores
You realize you're only making a fool out of yourself right?
Jonathan Reed
But that's because of fortnite
Nathaniel Cooper
You know that Dota and LoL is losing players each day for this exact reason right? Dota has pretty much turned into spectator game to watch tournaments now. I don't know about CS because I've never played it or follow the scene.
Mason Smith
That kid is 30 now
Henry James
not if you sell it exclusively on some obscure spyware program
Jayden Jones
You mean like Steam?
But I guess it's ok when Steam got tons of exclusive games on their spyware program.
Jayden Brown
Those actual players are 90% 10 year olds they would drop the game tomorrow if it stopped being the "in" thing, like cod used to be. Seems a bit flimsy to be building your future playerbase off of.
Lucas Reed
Good to see one company finally defending Microsoft monopoly
Liam Wright
>losing players each day >prize pool for TI2019 is already massive The game's esports scene is clearly generating considerable income which is usually a sign of a relevant game.
