Not him but i opened up my launch ps4 last year to finally change out the thermal paste and it was virtually clean af. Slight dust film as typical but if you aren't a dirty disgusting fuck you wouldn't have to worry so much.

How does one go about reapplying thermal paste, won't putting more paste on top of what's there just make a mess, is there some sort of trick to getting the old paste off?

Use isopropyl alcohol to clean the old paste

Rubbing alcohol on a coffee filter works great for getting the old stuff off.
