It's possible. SE did renew the rights to the game/story like a year or so ago. Either it means they are gonna re-relase the game (steam version?), making a PE3, or they are remaking PE1 (I find this doubtful though).

I literally couldn't care less about remakes. PS1 games are all still completely playable, every remake I've seen so far has totally killed the soul of the original and put out a bland modern game in its place.
I can't imagine actually enjoying remakes. It's like everyone else is taking crazy pills, remakes and reboots are widely panned in the movie world, and yet when it comes to games it seems like everyone is itching to play an old game again with cut down features and a fresh coat of goblin paint.
