You can play online, but you wont find any matches. You'd need to organize other players beforehand.

The DOS action platformer's are apparently alright. Duke Nukem 3D is obviously one of the greatest games made. There is also the DN3D expansion packs. Everything that came before Duke Nukem Forever was filler shit that you really shouldn't even play and has aged like milk. It may as well be non-canon crap.

Duke Nukem Forever was doomed to development hell and unfortunately took so long that time eventually passed the franchise by and even had it been a good game it likely wouldn't have mattered much. Especially since it got taken over by Gearbox.

Playing duke makes me wish I lived in a parallel universe where polygons never took off and shooters were all in 2.5D

DNF's biggest sins are
1.It makes fun of modern shooters... while being a modern shooter.
2. it's just boring to play. It isnt terrible, just... borning. And bland.

point 1 is the kind of thing that Doom 4 actually avoided. It actually embraces it's oldschool mechanics, while freshening them up a bit where needed, and it's actually fun to play, too.
