I bought an ethernet adapter for Wii U. Guess what? Game downloads are faster through the Wii U WiFi than using ethernet.

But I'd rather have a wired connection on the system than another wireless signal in my house. Oh, and the same 3rd party ethernet I got for $10 works on Switch.

At the time I didn't have 5ghz WiFi so I was stuck with 2.4 until I had to order an ethernet cable. I also have fast Internet but the original PS4 HDD can't write fast enough to take advantage of the speed.

Also you NEED ethernet on PS4 because of the absolutely awful bloated size of downloads. So many games with 20 to 50GB of patches is extremely pathetic. Even worse when it's a really mediocre game like Star Wars Battlefront and all you want to do is just play online.

That's why I still think the Switch having 32GB internal memory was the right idea. It limits developers from doing this kind of fuckery to their broken games. Even NBA 2k18 had a 12GB day 1 patch and 5GB SAVE FILE.

Its not the HDD speeds that effect your download speed its the PS4's shitty packet size. The thing intentionally fucks your download speeds, its well documented have a quick google search for "ps4 slow download speeds" or some other shit and you'll find info on it
All this download speed talk is irrelevant anyway, if you play games on wifi you are a retard, especially if its a fighting game

I have no problems playing online in Smash on wifi. Even Splatoon 2 works great on handheld wifi. Which is what the console is all about.

Nintendo either makes no money on the switch or the sell it at a loss. That's why the console is relatively cheap but the games, controllers, and accessories are not. Them releasing the Ethernet port secretly is likely a result of them cheaping out.

Dowloading through ethernet is slower because it's being pipped through USB 2.0 ports with transfer speeds so slow it makes 4200RPM laptop HDDs seem light-speed in comparison.

While I agree PS4 can have some awful slowdown on the PSN downloading things.. it seems to be at " peak " hours. I have a very fast internet connection and I run my PS4 through WI-FI. It works honestly pretty well. I can pull about 70% of my 115 Mb internet connection through the service

I am downloading a over 3 gig update right now and its taking about 8 minuters
