Skill lets you avoid dealing into that.
Double riichis tend to not actually get dealt into because the pool of safe tiles just grows so fast

I haven't seen One Outs yet, but I think I'd put Kaiji over Akagi mostly because I enjoy seeing Kaiji struggle but barely make it out alive as well as having the anime end on a high note rather than on a cliffhanger. Also, Akagi is taking too long to get through this one mahjong game in the manga.

This old trainer is supposed to help you see complex waits better. You always have riichi/ron/tsumo buttons, but if you press them wrong, you get a huge penalty, so you need to actually see whether you're tempai correctly.

It's the curse of online ranked ladders. Nobody gives a single fuck about how the games go, because the only relevant consideration is how fast can you rank up. So then the meta becomes "rush everything, do it for the imaginary points" and that's when everything becomes cancerous. Games like these desperately need that there is money or bants involved.
Note that I'm not blaming anyone for doing it, because I'm doing exactly the same thing myself. Why not? It's encouraged, and it's the most efficient way and there is no reason to do anything else. Friendly games are different though.

Works on everyone in bronze, silver and Yea Forums games, though. I do it all the time, the dragon always comes out.

If someone else has a pair, and they haven't seen it after awhile then they know you have the other pair and won't drop

Only acceptable if you have another yaku for value, doras or your hand it just absolute shit.

You can also do it for terminal + honors or for half flush. It let's you chicken out if it doesn't become realized.

But the general idea if you're going to do it try to realize a difficult hand and just use it as a fallback option.

I suppose, but the chance of one person having both dragons when you have the other 2 yourself are pretty low. Not something I'd be worrying about in a game, that's always a possibility no matter what you're waiting on, and it's less likely with dragons than with anything else since people drop them quickly if they don't have 2 at the start.

Most of the time it's just dead walled or farther in deck. If you have two yaku tiles they're very safe to drop. But be wary around people attempting to make flushes. They'll pair weight that shit easily and that's where it gets real dangerous..

I would say try doing it with 4 pairs if you see no potential for something else. Discard all isolated tiles that have already been discarded by other players so that you have a better chance of drawing them.

Just start defending whenever you think anyone else is in tenpai.
That puts you miles ahead of the bronze players, doesn't even matter if you never score a decent hand, you'll be 1st or 2nd every time. I shot out of bronze as soon as I started doing that.

I would never be able to rank One Outs, Akagi and Kaiji, they just manage to be my favorite big IQ anime simultaneously.
It's also fucking unbelievable that they are the only anime of the genre. Is this really such a niche genre? The only other series that comes close to their level of big thinks and "gotcha" moments is unironically Jojo part 2 which is from the start to end continuous "I knew you would do this so I did that" moments.

I'll play as defensively as I can without having to read a guide but still get blasted by crazy single waits all the time. My luck just isn't there.

Riichi is not an automatic win button. It's great early on because your discard is so slim that your opponents have to straight up guess what's safe for them to discard. Mid to late game though it's usually a stupid idea because your discard is now full of information they can use to just stall you out to mitigate the damage you can do. It just depends. If you can silent it during mid game you probably should. Then you can riichi it right before the game is over if you don't find it.

But using riichi as a yaku is pretty normal and it perfectly fine to do mid-late game since it's worthless otherwise. Even just to scare people out of their hands works pretty well. Any obvious hand is a great riichi and every trap as well.

You usually just want to be wary around endgame where last place people have absolutely nothing left to lose. They will a greed a yakuman into you and kill you.

This game managed to teach me mahjong after I tried to play it a couple of times years ago and didnt even understand what the fuck was going on.

Now I'm just regularly bad at it.

Since yakumans are worth an arbitrary amount, there's no need to increase your hand's worth, and smart people will probably be able to guess what you're going for if they see you go into riichi without discarding almost any terminals or honors

Is there something like a discard flowchart out there to make you reach winning hands faster / better?

I've had < 30 second queues for it in the evening and around 5 minute queue during the day. During the day it put me with "expert" rank players because I think its been around long enough that there aren't many novices.
The only annoying thing is it doesn't show the dead wall and the dora indicator shows the actual dora so you have to remember that one tile behind that is on the dead wall.
