I agree. it has also made game design lot more lazier since they can cop out with "whatever people can just google it". getting stuck because of bad intuitive level design is a non issue since you have internet at your fingertips. I never use guides and I've noticed how newer games have a lot of shitty sections that are just annoying to navigate in like there was very little thought put into making a path for the player that funnels him in the right direction.

In order to make the game appear "deep" they had to add the meta/min-maxing. In order to remain competitive you need to learn this meta.
Co-op or single player games don't need to worry about this competitive balance because fuck the AI.

Minmaxing is a natural part of competitive gaming. It's just more globalized now with the internet. It actually creates a demand for better designed competitive games that can't be broken down to a single winning strategy.
Single player games should not be played with minmaxing in mind and reading strategy guides and wikis before playing them can only ruin the game for you.
Once you've played the game the wiki is useful for learning more about the game and things you missed.
It's a problem when the dev designs the game with the expectation of you using a wiki.
